Fear is an emotion all people encounter with throughout their life. However, there are a large variety of types of fear, and the method on which to handle it. My Fear, a poem written by Lawrence Raab, personifies fear to be a person, the reason for his living is to distress others.
Fear is like a stalker, “He follows us, he keeps track” of the fears the beholder has. Through life, there are difficult obstacles and events that occur, inducing a new fear it a person. For example, usually people hold little fear of driving, but perhaps the next day they shake from the idea of driving because of a fatal car accident.
Fear fuels nightmares. “Tell me, Mr. Fear,/ what must I carry/ away from your dream”, reminds me of dreams that I have myself. Waking
Fear. Fear Is not just being afraid of that Clown that just follows you around on halloween night scaring everybody in sight. Fear is the emotion in the back of your mind that torments you every waking moment. It tells you what to say and keeps you from letting things out, even when sometimes the best thing for you is to let it out. “Fear is the little death that brings total obliteration.” quoted by unknown.
Have you ever been scared, or been filled with fear? If you haven’t, then you are one lucky human being. Some people might ask “What exactly is fear?” Well fear is an emotion that is unpleasant that no one wants to feel. Fear makes you feel threaten, also sometimes you feel frantic. But sometimes people feel over flown with fear and makes us scared. When people feel darkness, the unknown and scared our imagination will overflow with fear.
Fear is an unpleasant often strong emotion caused by anticipation or awareness of danger. Fear helps people recognize and respond to dangerous situations. There are two different types of fear. Healthy fear, which has a protective function and unhealthy fear which can lead to exaggerated behaviors. The soldiers in “The Things They Carried” carried many different things but the one thing that looms in the darkness is fear.
What is fear? Fear is that pit in the back of your stomach, your anticipation to do something, overwhelming yourself for no reason or a nightmare you might have. Fear is a feeling created in a response to a perceived danger. Fear can produce pleasure, heighten awareness, be in the form of phobia, a fear of the unknown and an instinctual response to danger.
In numerous novels spoken about there was fear of death, being taken away from loved ones, a type of phobia, fear of heartbreak, or fear of the unknown. These may just be stories, but it's relevant in life too. Every single day fears appear in each person’s mind, probably more than once. That is why without fear, there would not be life. Or life would be boring, dull, and unexciting.
Most people simply think of fear as what people are afraid of. However, it is so much more than than. Have you ever been afraid of something? This was likely shaped by past experiences.
In “My Fear” by Lawrence Raab it reveals how fears tend to hunt people even when it is not thought of. In lines 1-2 and 5-8 it states, “He follows us, he keeps track. Each day his list are longer.” “Mr. Fear, we say in our dreams, what do you have for me tonight? And he looks through his sack, his black sack of troubles” which illustrate how once a fear is knowledgeable it will hang around for a while.

Fear is a feeling induced by experience, perceived danger, or watching a frightening traumatic accident. The fear responses arise from the perception of danger and ultimately a change in behaviour, such as fleeing, or hiding or from perceived traumatic events. Every person has fears and different fears may be different adaptations that have been useful in our evolutionary past. I have fears too, and sometime, I feel embarrassed to intersperse my fear with others.
One of the things we fear the most is the loss of or lack of control. Even if we really don’t have control, we like to think we do, and when we lose that sense of control, fear rushes in. For example, an alcoholic will say " I can quit any time; I’m in control." The fear comes when he realizes for the first time that he is an alcoholic and that he is not in control. We all fear uncertainty and the unknown. We arm ourselves against it with candles in the dark, or faith against the uncertainty of death. Then, when we think we’ve conquered our fear, it comes invading our minds again, let in by a smell or a taste, a sound or a thought Fear is always there, just waiting right under the surface, to awaken those memories which frighten us the most.
Over the past two weeks, I have read two different stories about fear. Fear is an automatic response to physical and emotional danger we sense. People handle fear in many different ways but almost all of us let our imagination overcome reason.
Another cause for people having fear is the past experiences they have had. Generally, if something bad has happened to somebody, they try to forget about it and/or they try to make sure it never happens again. However, in doing so, they still have a subconscious fear that something similar to the terrible event they’ve experienced may somehow manage to happen again, especially if there are a few similarities between the past event and the current situation. For example, if a man had surgery for his heart to perform better and he nearly died, he may be very reluctant to ever have surgery to his heart or any other body part(s) again.
Fear to me is a fascinating emotion. People take it as a negative, but to me it's there for basic survival. Fear can also make people bond. After 9/11, the whole country was in fear. Yet, for the first time I can remember, the whole country was a united one.
Fear is the number one obstacle everyone must overcome at some point in their life. When the word fear is brought up I like to think of past situations that I experienced. There are many different methods used to conquer and learn from our fears such and exposure therapy, having a growth mindset, and thinking positive. For example, when I was younger fear was my worst enemy, School was the main reason that caused my fear. My fear of failure was my biggest obstacle growing up so I used that as a method to learn from my fears.
