My fear of thunders and lightning
It is truly fascinating how children experience and overcome many fears as they are growing up and learning whether or not something is scary. Astraphobia, otherwise known as the Phobia (fear) of anything related to lightning and thunder, is one of them. It undoubtedly is one of the most complicated things I have ever had to defeat. I obviously was afraid of lightning, but I realized how ridiculous and even pathetic it could be for me. Being among my friends, leaving them and start looking for a place where I could feel more comfortable and safer (a sort of shelter). Sometimes hiding underneath a bed, covering my ears and even crying because acting like that is not logical to those who have no phobia, I felt like abandoned. All of that because of something that occurs within the clouds, far away. Overcoming a phobia of something can magically increase your self-confidence. Sometimes, it is what others think about us that makes us to think about changing. “Do not fear,” my father always said. “Before your teenage years, it will be gone.” And he was right. According to ‘fearof.net’, most cases of excessive fear of thunder, lightning gradually diminish over the years”; but my case seemed to be particular. Eleanor Roosevelt explained that we grow as people through experiences where we choose to face our fears. Similar concepts are also shown throughout a 2 stories within the articles "What are you afraid of?" and "Conquering Fear" both by Matthew Hutson. They both tell stories about people who decided that they were no longer going to let their fears prevail, and how they went about overcoming them. There are many articles about people with common fears such as the fear of clowns, or snakes or spiders but Matthew Hutson tells the story about a 12 year old boy named Kyle who suffered from masklophobia, also known as a fear of mascots. Kyle recalls interactions with characters that made sweat poor down his face and his heart rate rapidly increase.
Everybody has a different perspective on fear and everybody is affected differently. The Mental Health Foundation stated that, “Fear can last for a short time and then pass but it can also last much longer and stay with us. In some cases it can take over our lives, affecting appetite, sleep, and concentration for long periods of time. Fear stops us from travelling, going to work or school, or even leaving the house.” This quote shows that fear does not affect people as much as it does to others. Although, fear can affect people for a long time which can cause them to stay isolated from others. There are many types of fears and some examples of fears include: the fear of the number 13, the fear of spiders, the fear of heights, and many others. There are hundreds of fears and many people have these fears and everybody is affected differently.
I was afraid of Hurricanes, Volcanoes, and water. Let me tell you my fear from the beginning. I was in Kauai. on my 2nd day there at we spent the day at the St. Regis hotel “just checking it out” but my dad asked if we could stay here even though we weren't guests and on the employees said the only way we could stay is renting a cabana for 5 hours with free lunch for only 250 dollars so we said, “yes,” and we were so pumped. As fast as we could we splashed in the water like a bunch of 3 and 4 year old's.

There have been many times that i've been scared. In my younger days, i would be scared of strange dogs with their big scary teeth, girls and all there cuties, blood sucking spiders. I got over those fears rather quickly though,I love to play with my puppy, and I just smash the gross spiders with my shoe. But there is one fear that took me a while to conquer, my fear of heights.
Some fears that are common are fear of the dark, thunder-lightning storms, and supernatural beings (boogy man/ someone something under the bed).I remember always crying that there was a fox at my window by my bed. Later the fear tend to turn to more fear that are movie or television furled or come from scary events. Children can have a phobia of school that may come from harsh teachers, stress and bullies. Children of the age five to seven may have problems being away from home. The years eleven to thirteen can be hard if there are harsh living conditions in which create anxieties, even problems in school.

Fear is the number one obstacle everyone must overcome at some point in their life. When the word fear is brought up I like to think of past situations that I experienced. There are many different methods used to conquer and learn from our fears such and exposure therapy, having a growth mindset, and thinking positive. For example, when I was younger fear was my worst enemy, School was the main reason that caused my fear. My fear of failure was my biggest obstacle growing up so I used that as a method to learn from my fears.
Whether you're afraid of everything under the sun, or fearless everyone has had the feeling of fear overcome I believe anyone can overcome a fear. I have overcome a few fears in my life and believe with determination anyone can. I've been afraid of heights my entire life and overcoming that fear took years. I never thought it was possible for me to be in a roller coaster until that one day I was in a situation that made me surpass my fear. I've been afraid of heights since I can remember. Some people will scream and cry whenever they are far up in the air. To a person without that fear it may seem funny that being afraid of heights is childish stuff, but to me it's not. I personally am not a person to freak out about heights anymore since I finally conquered it by getting on a ton of rides and just letting it
When one has a fear of something, one normally does not spend much time thinking about it, and it only affects one when one is forced to confront it.
