Brewing Barista I like to think that sometimes we are placed in circumstances, of which we have no control, to test our adaptability and help us to grow. My co-worker Jessica was a friendly, funny girl with seemingly no care in the world. Unfortunately, in the work place, not caring can cause considerable damage to productivity and place serious strain on relationships with colleagues and in some cases, leave them brewing with anger. I met Jessica my very first day of training. It was her first day as well. We were both hired to fill to open Starbuck’s barista positions. This particular Starbuck’s happened to be in a kiosk inside of a busy Safeway grocery store. We were both super excited to complete training, the job seemed exciting and …show more content…
Jessica started to become lazy and inattentive. She would also constantly be significantly tardy. While working in shifts, we were not able to leave until our replacement arrived. Her repetitively being late was beyond inconsiderate, especially when my leaving would be contingent upon her arriving. There would always be some explanation for the late arrival. I became unsure if she was being completely honest. I tried my best to patient and understanding and cover for her, but I started to feel used and manipulated into thinking that I’m really helping out a “friend”. Our store manager would be so busy overseeing different departments that he never quite knew to what extent she had become problematic. That all changed when Jessica did not show up to work for several days. No one heard from her, nor did she bother to call out. The term “job abandonment” had been used to describe the situation. Eventually she showed back up to work. I’m not sure what, if any, warnings were given, but the entire situation seemed to have got swept under the rug. Her clear and utter disregard to me and the other baristas as a team, had made for a highly stressful environment. My tolerance for Jessica started to decrease as my annoyance with her started to increase. I eventually started to distance myself from Jessica. It was hard being genuinely friendly to someone who shows that they do not value being in a team setting,
I watched the movie Training Day. This movie shows many examples of unmoral and unethical police work. Denzel Washington is a narcotics detective for the LAPD named Alonzo Harris. His methods of enforcing the law are very questionable during the film, if not corrupt. Harris’ job is to train rookie Jake Hoyt over a 24-hour period. Many Ethical dilemmas arise for Hoyt and this presents questions for him whether or not to follow along with Harris, and if his methodology for ridding the streets in South Central Los Angeles is right or wrong. As watching the movie we realize that there are a few theories that came up. Deontological and Teleological ethical systems as well as criminal/ moral culpability and hypothetical and categorical
It was love at first sight. I asked for her number and we started dating. She was born and raised in the United States. Soon after, we got married in City Hall and moved in together. We rented a studio apartment and were having the time of our lives, even if we were on a tight budget. Since I wanted to legalize my immigration status, we contacted Immigration Attorney Alice Antonovsky to discuss our story.
During my second year as a registered nurse, I have relocated to a new town and applied for a position in a small clinic. Three months after I was hired, another staff named Ms. D was hired. She was an LPN who recently graduated from a vocational training school. Since I was hired before Ms. D was, my supervisor asked me to assist with her orientation. After two weeks of orientation, Ms. D was ready to work without an assistance. Because our work hours were did not overlap often, I did not work with Ms. D during most days.
Mark volunteered to help with the community arts festival; he was supporting the not-for-profit organization as he had in the past. However, he did not know his good intentions as a volunteer would cost him his job as an assistant manager. The retail store’s phone number was printed in the festival advertising in error and ticket requests overloaded the phone lines, causing loss of business and annoyed the store manager. As a result, Mark was seen as the cause of the problems and terminated.

My Jessica has not been herself for over a year. I knew something had happened in the spring of 2014 but I couldn’t put my finger on it. Her English teacher and I even talked about it, how she would fall asleep in class, she could not concentrate on even the simplest of tasks, she would hide away in her bedroom. I even asked her once in July 2014 if Jay had done anything inappropriate. She assured me that no, everything was just fine. I trusted her. I trusted him.
To start at the very beginning, I have always had this certain manager that i could never really get along with workwise. Her name was Melissa and she was a corporate trained manager, making her more official and strict then the other managers and always going “by the books”. She was a short, long grey haired women that always wore these glasses that made her look like an old scary librarian. She had the nickname “monster mo” among the employees at the store for a reason. It was a fact known
Jessica is a 30 year-old single female. She has a very low stress job and lives at home with her mother. Jessica has always been a mediocre achiever. She has not graduated college, which has been on and off in attendance for six years. She has very high standards for herself and can be very self-critical. Lately, she has struggled with significant feelings of worthlessness and shame due to her inability to perform as well as her younger brother.
I entered your store this evening to rent a Redbox movie at around 7:30pm. When I walked into the store, I saw a young female slouched over on the customer's side of the counter eating what appeared to be her dinner. I found this to be somewhat unprofessional and made me feel uncomfortable. I continued to mind my own business and looked for a movie at the Redbox kiosk. I then heard a female talking amongst her other coworkers and very loudly say "suck my dick" and make other comments that were very inappropriate to her coworkers. I turned around to look at the workers to make sure I was hearing this correctly. I was in disbelief that this behavior would occur in a restaurant full of customers. Upon exit of the restaurant the young female and
Previously, I knew that she had a bit of a desk job, and when I saw the big, official-looking building I started thinking that the working atmosphere was going to be quiet and tense. It didn’t take long for me to be disproven, as everyone there was rather easy-going and friendly. As a Traffic Safety Coordinator, Billie spends a lot of time either behind a desk writing grants and organizing events, or driving long distances to give presentations to various groups and meet up with people at conferences. The day I was there, we mostly stayed in the main office building, but at one point we left to go meet up with someone Billie works with to discuss the size of a room and how it would work with her next presentation. She also showed a shed near the office of all of the little things she gives away during presentations. This was also the time she also showed me a crashed car that ODOT kept to help further educate people in driving safely. One thing I especially liked while job shadowing was all the different types of people Billie worked with. No one quite acted the same as everyone else and could be identified by little their own eccentricities. I also liked how Billie had close relationships with these people and was actually talking with them for the majority of the time that I was there. Billie also asked a few coworkers if they could give me a quick run-down on what they do, and everyone happily agreed. Each
Training Day is a LAPD movie, but the plot makes it stand out. It’s a story of a rookie cop who has his mind set on a goal. Alonzo, (Denzel Washington), a veteran cop who can get him there. The movie follows the cop duo, which feels like End of Watch, and both movies have the same writer. Training Day is action-packed, and makes you think because it sends a message to the audience and the character. I like this movie too because it asks the audience what’s right and what’s wrong. I would also like to mention that everyone is crooked, yet Jake (the rookie cop)is honest. Alonzo stole money from a drug dealer to bribe a crooked judge to get a warrant to break into a richer drug dealer house and to steal his money, so he can bribe russians to
I, Cheryl Boles was hired in June of 2007 under HM Yolanda Barfield. For the eight years that I have been working for this company I know my job description and what is expected of me. My work ethics speaks for itself. I haven’t had a complaint about my work performance in the eight years that I have been working here. I take initiative to do more than what is expected of me. I am strictly by the book when it comes to my job duties and the clients. I work every day that is scheduled for me to come in and I also come in to cover other shifts when asked. On the night of questioning, May 25, 2016, I Cheryl Boles arrived to work at promptly 9:30 p.m. I did my walk through as soon as I arrived. I proceeded with folding the laundry and cleaning the laundry room (swept & mopped). Meds got counted all floors swept and mopped, furniture got dusted, kitchen was cleaned, lunches and dinner was prepared for the clients at 4:00 a.m. As normal, bed checks were done every two hours (9:30pm, 11:30pm PM med was passed at 11:30pm as well, 1:30am and 3:30am) and again at
Meanwhile I was finishing my area and doing the nightly check-list that the managers were supposed to do every night. As people were finishing their assigned tasks I sent them home. Around eleven o’clock it was just me and one of the front counter managers helping me finish the check-list and double checking my work; clocking out shortly after we finished. I had managed to keep the kitchen running smoothly even though I had no experience as a manager or any leadership roles in that store. I had also managed to get everyone, including myself, off the clock at an exceptional
My first encounter with Sara was not unusual. Our first meeting was during theater class, everybody sat down in chairs that were preset in a semicircle with our teacher at the front. Since this was our first class, nobody knew each other. Since that was the case, everyone had to stand up, say their name, and tell a fun
The girl who was always full of life was now apathetic and I had no idea what to do to help her. All I could think of was to ask how her was doing and if she needed any assistance with her studies. It got to the point where she broke down crying at the most unexpected times. It was difficult to seeing her like this constantly, which was why I finally decided to take action and help her in the best way I could think of. I thought back to where her change in behavior first started occurring. The only reasoning I could come to was that Jenny was exhausted from not taking breaks while continuously studying for her finals. The first step I took to try and help her was by disrupting her studying at a reasonable time to get her to take a break. We still had a few weeks until finals took place, so I know she had the time to relax rather than constantly studying. I went to the place that she studied the most, the library, to see how she was doing. Likewise, she was occupied with her books. The first thing I did was disrupt her in a polite manner to see how long she had been there for. From what I correctly guessed, she had been studying for a few hours without any breaks in
