Lesson 1: Introduction
Yesterday was my first ever Defence Against the Dark Arts lesson! I can tell it’s going to be my favourite subject, well, maybe joint favourite along with Charms. We met our Professor, Melanie Silvers, who seems absolutely lovely. I’ve heard stories about how lots of professors in the past, before the Second Wizarding War, ended up having to leave after only one year, so I hope that doesn’t happen to Professor Silvers. We received our syllabus, which looks so exciting! So many different spells and creatures to look at each week!
We learned two incantations yesterday; the Wand-Lighting Charm and the Wand-Extinguishing Charm, and I have been practising them both in my spare time. The Wand-Lighting Charm, Lumos,

After another few attempts, the light was significantly more yellow in colour, and I felt very pleased with this outcome.
The Wand-Extinguishing Charm, Nox, is a lot easier to use. At first, it took me a few attempts to get it right, but I can successfully use it each time I require the effects of Lumos to be removed. It feels really exciting to be using a spell that simple requires a flick of the wrist and a short word!
Lesson 2: Bright Lights and a Little Softener
A few days ago we learned about Verdimillious and Spongify. I have since had the chance to try out both of them!
On Monday evening, I was running through the grounds to get back into the Castle before dark, when I tripped on a tree root and fell over. I think I was unconscious for some time and when I awoke it was quite dark. I tried to move, but I had broken my ankle. I needed to find a way of alerting someone to where I was. My muggle grandfather had taught me Morse code when I was younger, so I thought I might be able to use it with Lumos to attract attention. My head hurt and I wasn’t able to concentrate properly, so after saying “Lumos!” I could only see a faint white light that wouldn’t really attract any attention at all. I realise now that I had forgotten to think about charging the spell properly! I took a few moments to rest.
I thought about Verdimillious too. I had picked it up pretty easily over the last
I really like getting into the nitty-gritty of solving problems. I was happy to see that several students actually provided solutions to the problems that were identified using Heap’s law. I wish I had the time this week to have looked into it myself. I’m hoping that we might be doing some of that next week though.
We are on week four, time is going by fast. I Just got home and went strait to my office, I want to get the class started, I am happy about my graded test last week I did well.
The short hairs on the back of Percival’s neck stood up. He spun around to look at the woods, and there stood Merlin, partially obscured by a tree, but his hands glowed an unnatural blue and his eyes blazed the color of gold coins. Merlin’s lips moved, but Percival was not close enough to hear the
Hey--- Helping out one of the teachers in a pinch and writing Angela Elliot's IEP. (I'll do it for you, too- just shout if things get piled on...)
To sum up, I really happy that I took this ACA class this semester, I have changed my major and that help to save a lot of time and money. I made some new good friends thank to the presentation project. I have learned some new experiences which I have to pay a high price. And I want to say thank you to Mrs. Barnes, who taught us with all of her
Morgan, Kris and the kids get here in the morning. I turned in my class work for the week ahead of time because I knew I wouldn't get it done with them here. We go to court on Tuesday for the finalization of Kris adopting the kids. It will be a great
I hope this finds you well:) Time is flying by and finals are looming in my final semester of classes at the Bristol Community College in their Occupational Therapy Assistant program. Next semester will be all fieldwork and my first choice placement is Greenlock Therapeutic Riding Center. http://www.greenlock.org/. So close--finally!!
This week has been a good one so far. I can say I feel really good about my progress and work completed. I am half way done with my curriculum map and I am starting to list resources and strategies that I am using which will add an extra component to my curriculum map. I think I started to piece together my PowerPoint presentation as well.
Classes officially start on Wednesday and Carla and I went to a teacher store today and bought decorations for my classes (Carla helped me pick out some really good decorations). I will be teaching 9th and 10th grade World History (I think that I already told you that). I will let you know how everything goes and I hope that we can Skype next Saturday when your back on the Roschmann Ranch. Well, I better sign off for now because we are getting up early tomorrow to go to the early service at
The day started off fairly well. Hatfield hadn’t told his students I was going to be observing, and thus they assumed I was his daughter or a substitute teacher. After giving the students their bellwork, he quickly dove into the lesson. Hatfield had taken a day leave the day before, so the classroom was a bit scrambled with what they did with their substitute. It was an interactive day with videos, discussions, and written work. The good thing was that he really seemed to love what he was doing and could keep the students under his reigns fairly well. There were some attitudes from some of the students that he dismissed with ease and it was palpable that he had been doing this for years.
I hope you're school year is off to a great start of your school year. My third week of school at Chinquapin is now starting and it has been different VERY different from public school. There have been some adjustments that I’ve had to get use to like having 3-4 hours of homework every night and being away from home. However, from these two weeks I’ve learned a lot from doing chores and learning life skills to being in the classroom learning about the current events in Latin America.
I would say that today was an awesome day. I really like how we starting out our session with icebreaker challenge because I feel like that makes my blood flowing better. I am not the morning person so sometimes I came to summer bridge sleeping. However, after the icebreaker, I was more alert and I feel like I can focus better. One the thing I like about the icebreaker today was, we get involved with other group. I had a really good time playing captain is coming. I feel like this game make me actively elaborated with other students.
same greeting. All of the teachers were more than happy to be helping a future
The academic year has been very intensive and ran quicker than I imagined, however, it has been a very challenging but exciting both academically and on practice. Lectures have been well organised and delivered compared to year one where on many occasions there were disruptions due to last minute change of lecture theatres or change of timetable. We had equal sessions of field learning and theory at the school.
I can’t believe the class is over; it has been a fast six weeks! It has been an interesting and wide-ranging discussion on aging and disability. The videos that we watched were all interesting and the interviews were a great experience.
