My Future Career

Nursing has always been a popular career, and nurses work in a variety of settings. Most nurses have a bachelor's degree, but many nurses also have a master's degree. Nurses have several responsibilities. When you become a nurse, you are responsible for your patient's well-being and safety. You will have to care for chronically ill patients. Nurses work in a variety of health care settings.

As a young child, I was always drawn towards the field of health care. I remember reading about the many options that are held within it and wondering what path it would lead me on. Neonatal nursing was something that always came into my mind, but it was often pushed to the side by people and teachers who thought I should become a pediatrician instead. This became a real struggle for me, but as I grew up and began researching and exploring the health care field I came to a decision for myself. I came to the realization that everyone was wrong. Nursing is a practice in which nurses promote health and the well-being of patients. I believe that nursing is not only a job that prevents and cures illness, but has a deeper meaning and understanding. Becoming a nurse gives the opportunity to maximize and promote patients’ well-being. It is a way to learn and understand new perspectives and expand prior knowledge, to build relationships with patients, community, and other nurses, in addition to learning how to empathize and realize the patient’s needs, and to value and see people as human beings. I think even with the list given is not enough to define or explain a nurse. I believe being a nurse is a diverse and immeasurable experience, and what happens in this field is unknowing and uncertain. My goal in nursing practices is to take in life experiences and use the skills and ideas learned to shape me to become a better nurse and a better person.

A person in this career should have an energy level that is somewhat high, has a skill that is interpersonal, and a knowledge that is a little scientific (“Career” para. 6). During my senior year of high school, our graduating class had to take more than one career assessment. I was given choices in the health and human science field. I was a lover of science and the human body so there is no wonder on why I was given these career choices. You never think about choosing a career until you are given a list of what there is to do in the world. I put a lot of time and effort into choosing the career I want the rest of my life. I found that a lot of my childhood was spent in hospitals. When I was there I made sure to make time to look at the babies in the nursery. My mind would come up with a ton of questions regarding their life, family, and health. This lead me to choose a career pathway in neonatal nursing. Neonatal nurse practitioners normally deal with babies who need immediate medical attention, but sometimes there are instances when that is not the case. I would like to become a neonatal nurse practitioner so I can apply my education and experience to better the newborns’ health and well-being.

Being a nurse means that there are multiple responsibilities to juggle, working with both young and old people, with numerous priorities ranging from counselling and teaching to giving medication.

The success as a professional Registered Nurse (RN) requires hard work, compassion and empathy. It is important to realize the journey is challenging, but is fulfilling. The registered nurse profession was established in the 1800s. For over two hundred years a registered nurse has helped those in need. The responsibilities of nurses is to educate their patients on many types of diseases as well as provide guidance to patients and their loved ones. It is important for nurses to express compassion, emotional stability, and empathy for patients.

Transitioning from a practical nurse to a registered nurse will build upon my already existing knowledge and expertise by developing my skills and gaining more experience. My future role as a registered nurse will involve being able to think critically and analyze issues more deeply. I also must be able to consider underlying conditions and how they relate to my patient’s status. As a registered nurse I must examine my personal qualities and analyze whether I have the mental or emotional capacity to do what is required of me.

Let’s start off by saying I knew it. I have learned, I am meant to be in the health field. I scored very high in the health area of the career questionnaire. I made a choice in my high school years, to pursue a career in the medical field. In 2013 I became a Certified Nursing Assistant, then in 2015 I started to work at Pocola Health and Rehab, and I love every moment that I am there. Nonetheless, I want to become a Registered Nurse. During my questionnaire, I learned that it is a very well paying career. That’s important, but in my heart, it is very awarding to help people. I strive to do better, for me and my family and that is my goal.

Being a successful registered nurse definitely comes with many more titles than just ‘nurse’. From the education aspect of nursing, nurses know how to care for sick patients, promote health in patients and provide treatment for patients. To be a successful nurse that is a great start, but nurses possess many more characteristics that enable them to excel in their field. As a pre-nursing student, I should be thinking about all of the unmentioned obligations that come along with being a nurse. Mental and emotional abilities have proven to be just as necessary as the knowledge it takes to become a registered nurse. Learning the characteristics that a successful nurse possesses will assist me in becoming the best nurse that I can be.

Becoming a health care professional of any kind is much more than just getting good grades in high school. It takes years of hard work, a lot of college, and dedication. To become a registered nurse (RN), one must be a problem solver. Any good nurse will need to have an advanced set of critical thinking skills, as well as an understanding of their patient’s needs, even when that patient does not necessarily voice their wants or needs. A nurse must also be compassionate. Nursing is much more than just intelligence and schooling. Success of being a registered nurse will begin with multiple long schooling hours, very tedious work skills, and the basic knowledge and satisfaction that someone’s life was improved because of the previous years of hard work.

Nurses provide excellent patient care, teach patients about health conditions, and give advice and support to patients and their families. Nurses have a variety of duties. They must monitor and record patient symptoms, take vital signs, watch patients diet and physical activity, supervise less skilled nurses, and order and interpret tests to access the condition of the patient. Nursing can be a wonderful, caring, and thoughtful job. However, to other nurses: nursing can be a difficult, tiring, and stressful job. Any job can be tough but nursing is emotionally and physically draining on a person. Nursing can be such a burdensome and demanding job sometimes because of the long hours, the exam to become a nurse, and dealing with other people.
