My interview with Emily Johnson took place on November 9, 2016 in person at 8:36 pm. Emily is eighteen years old and grew up in Tampa, Florida. She attended a public high school and is currently a freshman at the University of Central Florida. While Emily attended the same high school with a lot of her acquaintances from middle school, she had to part ways with her closest friends. She recalled that not being able to have them with her during high school was hard, especially because that meant she had to make new ones. Emily joined her high school’s cheerleading team her freshman year and found herself having to act a certain way to fit in:
In order to make friends, I believed that I couldn’t be myself. It wasn 't that the girls on my squad were into bad things; they didn 't necessarily do things I agreed with. I kept trying to become something I wasn 't to impress them, and when it didn 't work, I only tried harder. Looking back, I regret it because I sacrificed my values to fit in.
This only escalated when she got voted onto homecoming court. Her cousin became jealous and turned everything into a competition between them, even with friends. Emily explained how her cousin began to spread rumors about her to the new friends she had made, recalling, “it was awful, she made up these horrible things to try to get my friends to exclude me and made herself out to be the good guy.” This caused her to believe that she had to hide her achievements and could not excel in what she
Emily’s father considered themselves superior than others in town. . He believed none of the young boys were suitable for Emily, and always chased them away. Her
Criticism from the townspeople caused Emily to go insane. What did Emily ever do to the townspeople? They were always criticizing her in how she was to who she dated. She was already in a struggle with herself, the environment and all those who surrounded her. The society was forcing her to stray in her role of “noblesse oblige.” When Emily’s father died the “people were glad…they could pity Miss Emily. Being left alone…she had become humanized.” Townspeople were jealous that she always had money and her life was set good unlike them. Not knowing the struggle she was going through they made it worse for her by criticizing. She
Emily’s upbringing is plagued with difficulties. She is the first-born of a young mother and the eldest of five brothers and sisters. As a baby, she is
Emily Murphy was a Canadian women’s rights activist, jurist, and author. She is best known for contributions to Canadian feminism, specifically the question of whether women were “persons” under law. She is one of the strongest women in canadian history.
Entering the fourth quarter 27th seeded Somers trailed 19th seeded Bloomfield by 18 points in the CIASC Class S girl’s basketball quarterfinal. Somers junior guard Emily Plagenza, who already hit a game winning buzzer beater to upset 6th seeded Old Lyme in the first round followed by a 20 point game in a second round win, was not going down without a fight. Plagenza put Somers on her back scoring 16 fourth quarter points to bring her team within one possession of advancing to the semi-finals. Somers wound up losing that game 64-61 but it is the toughness and determination that Plagenza displayed that would lead her into a career in sport.
In the book, Since You’ve Been Gone by Morgan Matson, the main character, Emily, changes greatly from who she was before she began the list, to who she was after. During flashbacks, we see glimpses of who Emily was, which was rather disappointing. To show this, Emily says, “‘Yes,’ I said immediately. This was my identity at school, but I never minded it- and now, I’d never been so happy to be recognised this way.”
Emily Grierson is to be tried as guilty for the murder of Homer Barron. Witnesses have given the readers sufficient accounts of Miss Emily’s behavior to cause belief in her committing murder of the first degree. “First degree murder is found when the defendant intends to kill and does so with premeditation and deliberation” (Criminal Law Murder Model). The victim, having been found locked away in the house of Miss Emily (327), is the basis of prosecution for the accused. Emily Grierson will be found guilty of murder because she premeditated her crime, was psychologically unstable, and attempted to conceal her crime.
Emily was born in a farm family in Norwich, Upper Canada (Canada West in the past; named Ontario now). Based on home schooling by her mother when she was young, Emily became a teacher at a one-room schoolhouse in nearby Summerville, Canada West. During 1853 to 1854, Emily attended the recently built school, Provincial Normal School in Toronto, which is the only advanced school open to women in British North America. She graduated with a First Class Certificate, and then worked for the Brantford School Board, where she was perhaps the first woman who is appointed as a principal of a public school in Canada West from 1854 to 1856. Not long after that, Emily Jennings married with John Stowe at Mount Pleasant near Brant ford.
Emily is a character surrounded by mystery, leaving a mark on the influence of others, causing them to create their own scenarios about her life. It happened when she met Homer, when everyone hoped she will marry him, or when she bought poison and everyone thought she would poison herself. Her high wealthy status and respect were emphasized when she kicked out the people who
Emily is very vulnerable mostly because of her appearance. "She tormented herself enough about not looking like the others, there was enough of the unsureness, the having to be conscious of works before you speak, the constant caring-what are they thinking of me? Without having it all magnified by the merciless physical drivers" (Olson 603). Emily is a skinny, fragile, and sick child, and in the outer world, other kids without values would point her out. Emily is always insecure about what she says, or does in front of others. The insecurity of not being able to be her own person is always on her mind.
4. Emily acquired very shy and demure characteristics; however, after she started to hang out with the troubled kids she began to loose those characteristics.
When I was around Katie, high school was a breeze, because I had all the friends I could ask for. Although, they were my friends for probably the same reason I was Katie’s friend; popularity. Our high school was huge, and filled with two stories of classrooms, halls, and lockers that held over 3,000 students among the four grades. I would easily get lost. Even though the school was big and full of kids, making friends was the hardest part ever. Katie and I would watch other kids who did not have friends and talk about them behind their backs, and sometimes even to their face.
How much do you know about Laura Knoll? I’m her friend going to inform you more about Ms. Knoll. She is a very interesting person to get to know!
In the story, the narrator explains that she joined every school club she was able to. She did this to fit in and find her strengths and weaknesses. Everyone at one point in life has said or done something that they don't necessarily agree with just to fit in. It is implied that the narrator is happier
She is a senior at Melrose Area High School. She is popular in school and holds the school's basketball record for getting the most points in her career. Logan started getting to know Emily when he started the sixth grade. Emily is a teacher’s assistant for Logan’s special education class. Emily got to work one on one with Logan helping him with his school work. Emily grew very fond of Logan, so she started to invite him to go out to eat or the movies just to give him a friend. She also started going over to his house to give him the extra help he needed to get his homework done properly. After helping him with his homework, Emily would go with Logan to the gym to practice basketball for his special olympics games. This was very important to Logan, because he knew that Emily was the best girl basketball player in the school. Then in Logan’s seventh grade year, Emily won homecoming. Logan was so proud of her and is striving to become homecoming king his senior year. The positivity that Emily brought into Logan’s life gives Logan a structure to mold his life
