The My Lai incident relates to the Afghanistan shooting as they both demonstrate acts of war crimes against innocent villagers. The My Lai incident took place in a Northern part of Southern Vietnam when Lt. Calley of the 11th Brigade Charlie company took part in acts of war crimes against innocent villagers. Lieutenant Calley was charged with killing a total of 104 villagers during the My Lai Massacre. In this incident the soldiers were very irritated with the booby traps and attacks against them that killed so many of their men. This frustration was taken out on the My Lai villagers by Lieutenant Calley as a way of revenge against the Viet Cong. Even though the reasoning behind his war crimes was out of frustration, the direct perpetrator,
Did you know that almost 3,000 people died on 9/11? People hijacked four planes and crashed them into the Pentagon, both World Trade Center buildings and into a field in Pennsylvania. 9/11 was a historical event because of what happened before, during and after.
The pentagon wants the public to calm down concerning the military activity of Jade Helm in Texas which officially consists of a series of training drills throughout the Southwest for about 1,200 special operations personnel, including Green Berets and Navy SEALs. Although the government says it is just a domestic military training exercise, many are not willing to drink the red cool aid. The government acts surprised when the citizens of the USA are enraged about the military activities, but what do they expect people to think when they doing a large military training on American soil? It is unclear why these military activities on a large scale cannot be done
passengers and make sure that the planes are being boarded with no illegal items. In 2006, there was an attempt made to detonate a liquid explosive on board a plane. This terrorist attempt enacted yet another restriction. The TSA banned any and all liquids measuring more than 3.4 ounces. (Brill) The more restrictions put on what passengers can and cannot bring on planes show in the aftermath of the 9/11 terrorist attacks and what changes they had on United States security. (Villemez) After the 9/11 terrorist attacks, the number of air marshals aboard U.S. planes was questioned, the primary change to the Federal Air Marshal Service happened quickly after the assaults of 9/11. The U.S. had only 33 air marshals working in a full time limit on 9/11, and in the quick reaction from the assaults, the Bush Administration pushed for a huge and fast development of the program.
Individuals who use terror techniques as a way to intimidate U.S. citizens about the justice of war may be terrorist themselves. Many terrorist weather apart of a larger organization or acting as a lonewolf are intent on attacking liberalism because they view it as a rival doctrine. I wonder then should leveralism be constrained in responding to such attacks as September 11, 2001. In the aftermath of the worst attack on U.S soil since Pearl Harbor, many Americans of my generation have held the view that this attack has changed our world forever. I believe that this is certainly true for local and state police agencies and their chiefs. It has become increasingly clear that several federal agencies, such as the U.S. Secret Service and the FBI,
Okay, we’ve got them on the way. We received several calls, do you know if anybody is injured?
“A true war story is never moral. It does not instruct, nor encourage virtue, nor suggest models of proper human behaviour, nor restrain men from doing things men have always done” (O’Brien) Platoon is a movie that is free from the chains of an overarching sense of morality. There are no morals to be found in this movie, and it’s nihilistic depiction of war allows no room for morality to come to fruition. One way that Stone accomplishes this is by not establishing a clear “us” (Americans) and “them” (Viet Cong) throughout the entire movie, and instead we see the confusion, anger, hatred, and fear that overcomes the American soldiers sent into a war where the enemy is never fully known. There is a scene in the movie Platoon that is based on the My-Lai
Was the Gulf of Tonkin incident an accident or were the 2 attacks on the USS Maddox within reason where the ship was not where it was supposed to be? Thus the correct historical analogy may not be Nixon's secret air campaign and incursions into Cambodia, but the Tonkin Gulf incident-the alleged pair of attacks by North Vietnamese naval forces against American destroyers that President London B. Johnson used to win public support and congressional approval for escalating the confrontation with North Vietnam. The government has ways to make information and secret operations disappear as if it never happened by making them nonexistent on paper. Is a secret operation or reconnaissance mission what the ship was doing? What was OPLAN-34A? Why did
On the morning of March 16th the company moved in. They were instructed by Lieutenant William Calley to shoot every living thing in sight, from animals to babies, for the animals would feed the Vietcong and the babies would one day grow up to be them. From many soldiers’ accounts, non-of the people shot that day seemed to pose any threat to the American soldiers. In fact, women, children and old men made up a huge majority of the victims. Barely any weapons were found and according to most of the soldiers the Vietnamese people were trying to cooperate but there was the barrier of language. When the soldiers yelled things in Vietnamese they weren’t even sure if they were saying the right thing because Vietnamese is a language based on inflection in the voice. LT Calley ordered his soldiers to kill all of the Vietnamese in massive slaughters. They were herded into big groups, and some groups were forced into ditches and then fired upon. “The few that survived did so because the were covered by the bodies of those less fortunate.” (Linder) After the massacre was over there was an extensive cover-up, the commanders even reported My Lai as a success with 123 enemy deaths and some weapon recoveries. It wasn’t until a man named Ronald Ridenhour,
The Milgram experiment is one of the most controversial psychology experiments of the past century. I was familiar with it prior to accessing the simulation on the elearning site from an ABC television Four Corners episode on the nature of torture. So when I participated in the simulation, I stopped administering the shock at the first sign of distress from the subject at thirty watts. If I was in the actual Milgram experiment I would like to believe that I would have behaved in the same way. Human nature dictates that we believe that only abnormal people are capable of sinister behavior. This belief that internal attributions cause certain behaviours assures us of some stability and security in our day-to-day lives and yet the

On August 5, 1964, President Lyndon B. Johnson orients a message to Congress closely preceding the second attack fired off from North Vietnam forces. He proposes retaliation for the attack on two U.S. destroyers in international waters; the destruction of North Vietnam boats and facilities followed with the United States acquiring a minimal loss of two aircrafts; a resolution was also requested by Johnson from Congress to reassure the people, American and foreign, that the United States persists for the stronger involvement only for the progression of achieving the same initial
The DPAA, Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency, is a task force within the Department of Defense specifically used for identifying the remains of fallen soldiers overseas. In 1973, The Department of Defense established the Central Identification Laboratory in Thailand to organize POW/MIA retrieval efforts in Southeast Asia (Department of Defense, Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency, Fulfilling Our Nation's Promise, http://www.dpaa.mil/, November 2016). In 1976, a Central Identification Laboratory was established in Hawaii to hunt for, recover, and identify missing Americans from all previous conflicts. In 1992, the Joint Task Force–Full Accounting (JFA-FA) was established reach the fullest possible account of missing Americans from the Vietnam War. In 2002 the DOD decided that POW/MIA recovery efforts would be better by merging the two Central Identification Laboratories and the Joint Task Force. On 1 October 2003, the Joint POW/MIA Accounting command was developed under the sponsorships of the Commander, Pacific Command (Department of Defense, Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency, Fulfilling Our Nation's Promise, http://www.dpaa.mil/, November 2016).
1970-1990 Fall of Saigon: On April twenty ninth, nineteen seventy five The North Vietnamese Army came to saigon Americans knew of them being there so they left quickly in helicopters and other aircrafts. After the army took over the city was called Ho Chi Minh this is sugnificant because america left so easily they lost with no fight at all something could have been done to keep the land.our military left the city fast to i dont see why they wouldnt stay and fight for what belonged to them. If I was in the army i would have wanted to fight for our country its a team effort.
An example of such an act was composed on March 16th, 1968, When “a company of American soldiers went into the hamlet of My Lai 4, in Quang Ngai province and rounded up the inhabitants, including old people and women with infants in their arms, then ordered them into a ditch where they were methodically shot to death by American soldiers”(Zinn 478). This dismal behavior caught the eye of Army investigators who ultimately made an attempt to cover up the incident but were proven to fail as an anti war photographer captured a majority of the scenes. These “letters” began to circulate in French publications almost immediately and led to the arrest of several officers who were never assigned a worthy punishment, the most severe being a shortened sentence and house arrest.

War crimes committed during the course of the Vietnam War had irreversible effects on the perception of the United States military. The US military stood divided, unsure of what were atrocities and what were normal orders to be followed. Distorted interpretations of orders, anger, confusion, and negligence all had a part in war crimes like the massacre at My Lai. The single greatest element responsible for what happened at My Lai was a racial bias that lurked at the heart of the War itself.
