What does education mean to you? To me education is an opportunity to grow as a person in order to success in life. So, do we all see education as the primary path to success? According to the article, “My Lazy American Students” by Karla Miller (2009), American students different from foreign students are not seeing education as a priority in life. She said how Americans college students prefer to not pay attention during class, by texting, checking e-emails, declining to take notes, and by appearing tired and disengaged (3), and out of class by not management their times playing videogames instead of doing homework(1). In the other hand foreign students are putting the necessary effort to success, even though they came from a different community, …show more content…
American students, as obvious, understand perfectly English, which supposedly is an advantage for them in class. 4 years ago I did not know any English at all, I could barely say “How are you?” but, it my lack of English did not stop me from learn day by day. Sometimes I saw classmates in High School, when we had to turn in papers, or they didn’t turn the paper, or they had a lower grade than mine. I always ask myself, why they don’t put their real effort on whatever they to, they have the English knowledge, which is a great advantage over my, but I’m still having better grades. As foreign student, you always try your best because you know, you are behind, that’s what happened to me, I always find the way to do any assignment teachers give me. Miller tell us a case, about a foreign girl student from Shanghai, and how she was struggling whit writing, but also how “that didn’t stop her from doing rewrite after rewrite, tirelessly trying to improve both structure and grammar” this example clearly shows the effort foreign students had to put in order to success, different from Americans whom already know English and they don’t worry about effort on their
Education opens your mind to the world around you. It gives you knowledge about how things actually work and help you find a job that will support you and your future. A proper education reduces poverty, boosts economic growth, increases income and promote peace according to the Global Partnership for Education. Sadly, only 77% of students graduate from high school and 24 other countries beat the U.S Rate of Educational Improvement according to Harvard’s Program on Educational Policy and Governance. While students are overly focused on extracurricular activities like sports, they aren’t learning enough to succeed to their full
Education is the process of learning, whether it occurs at a specific building designed for that very reason, such as a school or an institution that provides opportunities for higher learning (college), or even somewhere as, conveniently accessible as home. Us humans are always learning and therefore being educated. Robert M. Hutchins, said, “The object of education is to prepare the young to educate themselves throughout their lives.” The principal education we are provided with, is what we gradually increase, improve on throughout our lives. Learning can also be done through experience, which is correlated with the idea that hands on learning stays in the memory longer and is more effective.
Everyone has a different view of what education is and to get education. Education is key to being successful later in life. People who are educated get employment opportunities and get a high paying job. If, you are not educated than you are likely to get a job that neither pay you minimum wage or not. Before, we can get a job without having an education or any skills and education was expensive. Nowadays, everything is changing from getting a job to going to college to getting education. Now in order to get a job, we need to have a degree or skills and education is expensive that not everyone can afford. I here at CSU Stanislaus to have a great career and to make a future for better living for me and my family. My family and I come from low- income family. For me, it is important to get
Education in a person’s lives is bringing everybody united to be a successful student. Students help out each other to become successful people. Students focus on doing their homework to be well educated in their lives. Students also meet challenges when being
Education is one of the most important tools one can receive. Having an education grants one many opportunities in life. It opens up doors and allows individuals to realize their full potential in life. It is through education that one learns about themselves and the world in which they are living. That being said, education is not universal.
An education is the process of receiving or giving systematic instruction; an enlightening experience. Education is one of the main priorities for a society to prosper because it forms the character and intelligence of an individual. Education enables individuals to put their potentials to use and make a difference for the future. An education lets one understand what is going on in the world in all sorts of ways; emotionally and logically. The purpose of an education is to spread knowledge to the younger generation.
Why is education so important? Is it because of how much you’ll make at your high end job or is it because it is essential to function as a “well-rounded” human being? Well education is important because along the way you acquire sets of skills like critical thinking, which are useful for the everyday life. However, people who do not pursue a higher education after they graduate are not less intelligent and should not be looked down upon, because schooling isn’t about what you learn. Instead it is about the abilities, the strategies like how to communicate efficiently or being more aware of things, you get after going through the system.
What does education mean to us in America? Does it mean better money? Better job? More opportunities? While this was the promise that was told us Americans since we were children, decades later that promise doesn't seem so promising. Since we were children we were asked the question, “What do you want to be when you grow up?”. We were told we could be anything we wanted to be, as long as we did well in school, then we would go to college where you can make your dreams come true. But now those dreams are just looking like dreams. College graduates are leaving school with no jobs and mounting debts, schools are closing in urban cities as well as dropout rates increasing. Our education system is in a crisis. This is a result of our old way of
every morning to sit in a classroom, where the teacher speaks as I listen. It is an understanding of the privilege that was inaccessible for my father, and mother. Means to have the opportunity that various children around the world strive for. Essentially, education to me, means to gain independence to become an avid activist for others who never received an opportunity to get an education due to circumstances in which they have no power over; their sex, race, poverty, disabilities, and rooted cultural ideals. I can identify myself through my education; education in which I hope forms me to become a person I will come to
The pursuit of knowledge, and the focus to enrich lives. Education from its core should require us to think and question everything, so that we may better understand the world and universe we live in. However this system has been twisted and corrupted. Instead of being taught how to think for ourselves, we are being taught how to think like everyone else. We are being groomed to become the work force of our country. To think and act the way we ought to. The education system has turned into a “means to an end” in the eyes of students. High school, and college have become no more than stepping stones to the adult world. We come to class, we do our homework, and take our tests. Mindless and brainless we slowly take one semester at a time, until the day we graduate and walk into the workforce. Education is power, but not the power of the educated. Education give power to those choosing the what is taught in schools. They choose what we are supposed to learn and how we are taught. Schooling is used as somewhat of a brainwashing method to make students follow in the footsteps of those who came before. Slowly preparing them to work for your land and
For me, art history discussion session is most challenging. I become very nervous the night before the discussion and “participation grade” is the only word that pops out of my head during every session. I start to lose confidence as I observe other students analyzing the art work perfectly. Although participation grade is not based on correctness, I cannot stop worrying about whether what I am thinking is right or wrong and how people are going to think of my accents. Not only do students feel stressful in verbal context, they also face difficulties in essays. Because of their limited vocabulary, students have hard time expressing their knowledge clearly on essay exams or research paper, and the different format of writings preferred in American colleges and universities often confuse international students with their native format of writings (Lin and Yi, Paragraph 7, 1997). For example, while American writings follow a specific structure with a clear main idea, supporting evidence and a conclusion, Eastern Asian writings don’t have a specific format. Also, according to Lin and Yi, many international students are hired as teaching assistants, and students who are enrolled in their classes can misinterpret due to their accents or incorrect application of language.
What is education? According to Webster’s Dictionary education is defined as, (noun) 1: the action or process of being educating or of being educated, 2: the field of study that deals mainly with methods of teaching and learning in schools. What does education provide for us? How important is education in today’s society?
I believe that education extends far beyond the classroom walls, and involves many more people than students and teachers. People should be learning wherever they go, and should continue learning long after they’ve graduated from high school or college. Education isn’t something that can be quantified with tests or report cards, but is instead something that people carry with them. It’s a survival pack for life, and some people are better equipped in certain areas than in others. People with a solid education are prepared for nearly anything, as they will be able to provide for their own physical, emotional, and aesthetic needs.
Education is one of the most important things for a society to prosper and be safe which forms the character and intelligence of the individuals around the world. Education makes one able to understand what is happening in the world logically and clearly. Education enables individuals to put their potential to use and make a difference in the future. It is essential for individuals to be educated in a way that they will expand their knowledge vastly. An ideal educational model is very difficult to achieve, and is often argued over by people in society.
In my opinion , Education means a lot to me because it teach me a lot of information in life . Every knowledge I learn from it , I can use it in
