What does education mean to you? To me education is an opportunity to grow as a person in order to success in life. So, do we all see education as the primary path to success? According to the article, “My Lazy American Students” by Karla Miller (2009), American students different from foreign students are not seeing education as a priority in life. She said how Americans college students prefer to not pay attention during class, by texting, checking e-emails, declining to take notes, and by appearing tired and disengaged (3), and out of class by not management their times playing videogames instead of doing homework(1). American students, as obvious, understand perfectly English, which supposedly is an advantage for them in class. 4 years ago I did not know any English at all, I could barely say “How are you?” but, it my lack of English did not stop me from learn day by day. Sometimes I saw classmates in High School, when we had to turn in papers, or they didn’t turn the paper, or they had a lower grade than mine. I always ask myself, why they don’t put their real effort on whatever they to, they have the English knowledge, which is a great advantage over my, but I’m still having better grades. As foreign student, you always try your best because you know, you are behind, that’s what happened to me, I always find the way to do any assignment teachers give me. Miller tell us a case, about a foreign girl student from Shanghai, and how she was struggling whit writing, but also how “that didn’t stop her from doing rewrite after rewrite, tirelessly trying to improve both structure and grammar” this example clearly shows the effort foreign students had to put in order to success, different from Americans whom already know English and they don’t worry about effort on their
