“The goal of leadership is to connect to the journey of transformation…not whether they will transform but how they will change and what condition they will be in at the end of the change cycle” (Porter-O’Grady & Malloch, 2018, p. 592). My hope in this leadership journey is that I learn to embrace and nurture the characteristics that build me up to be a successful leader, and that I evolve those attributes that challenge me to be a powerful visionary in the industry. Much like a caterpillar’s evolution towards change, my goal at the end of this voyage is to learn more about who I am and what I can accomplish. This process will demonstrate how I can continue to grow as a person and as a future leader through my own strength of courage, self-reflection, and deeper perception of innate strengths and weaknesses. When that time comes, the butterfly will only be the beginning of this new chapter.
Complexity Principles
The ten complexity principles for leaders are the wholes are not just the sum of their parts, all health care is local, value is now the centerpiece of service delivery, simple systems aggregate to complex systems, diversity is essential to life, error is essential to success, systems thrive when all of their functions intersect and interact, equilibrium and disequilibrium are in constant tension, change is generated from the center and reflects outward, and revolution results from the aggregation of local changes (Porter-O’Grady, 2018).
