There are two types of people in the work field. One is the leader and one is the follower. The people in the management do not necessary they are meant to be the leader. There are many reasons that a person became a leader, it is more important how to be a successful leader. A successful leader is able to lead the team, inspire the team and help the team to succeed and grow. There are people are born natural to be a leader, and there are some people because a successful leader by experiences or inspiration from other successful leader. This week's assignment helped me to understand more about the meaning of leadership and what it takes to become a true leader. It might sounds discouraging; however, I have known I am not the material to …show more content…
The reason why she said it because there are times she wishes she could talk to me about personal feelings and what is going on in her lives. However, it is because I always act like an adult and make her and my younger brother feel like it is hard to talk to me. It is a wakeup call to me and I changed my attitude to them. At work, I was a beauty consultant at a department store before. There was a time that a counter manager at a new counter with a beauty consultant who has decades of retail experiences. At that time, I did not have much retail salesperson experiences. She was trying to apply for that counter manager position, and she did not get it. She often challenge me whenever I try to communicate with her about work. For the time we were working together, it is so hard to work with each other because we do not have communication and trust to each other. When I was attending college, my classes were all taking online. There was one time the professor selected me as the group leader. At that time, I just have a new born baby and I do not feel comfortable to be the group leader. Therefore, I asked the group if there is anyone would want to take the responsibilities. There are either no responses or …show more content…
My score is 2. Since I did not get a chance to discuss the result with the class. I am not quite sure if my score mean it is a good score or score that means I am not good at changing. I like how the textbook mentioned about what actions need to take to reduce resistance to change. For example, communication and education help a person to make the transition. This is also the reason why I decided to pursue further education rather than to work in the field. The first reason is my two children are still young, I want to wait until at least my younger one starts to go to school. By the time I finish my master degree, both my children will be in school. Therefore, I do not need to worry about babysitting. The only worry I have is the lack of experience I have in the emergency management and homeland security field. That is why I hope to be able to land some interviews that I can communicate with the employees. I want them to know what kind of person I am and be able to give me a chance to learn and grow in the
Leadership has been present throughout my life. I can remember being able to take charge of groups when I was only in elementary school. I have been able to have many opportunities since then to be in a leadership role. Each one of these roles has had an impact on my life and the way that I view leadership.
My definition of leadership is to be able to support, motivate, and inspire a team to accomplish any goal at hand. I have first hand experience in the leadership role. I have been involved in group and team related projects for the majority of my life. For example, I have been on a dance team for the past eighteen years. During those years, I was a part of the University of Monroe’s Hawkline. Also on campus, I am involved in Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. Being involved in those groups, I have been able to learn from others about what it means to become a better leader. Being a leader is a full-filling process, knowing that I am guiding others to accomplish our goal together. Currently, I am in the process of becoming a member
I can summarize my leadership in two words: adaptability and approachability. There exist infinite possible approaches to leadership, and there is not one single universal right. Throughout my career, I have encountered and taken note of the different leadership styles in my path and have come to realize that in order to be most effective, I must be adaptable to each unique circumstance. I have also formed my philosophy by taking into account what I consider to be toxic leadership styles. Toxicity leads to unapproachability and one cannot expect to successfully ensure the wellbeing of their subordinates if they do not feel comfortable discussing issues. It would be a feat to comprehensively cover every aspect of my leadership philosophy within
Being a leader is no easy task. A person needs to be able to overcome their own obstacles if they want to be able to help others overcome theirs. My ability to be a leader is still not fully flushed out due to the fact that even though I can overcome my own struggles/problems, it's much more difficult for me to try and lead others past their's. This is why I am very interested in the Leadership Program. Austin is a huge city but unlike many large cities, its people prefer to work together, they aren't big fans of the "every man for himself" ideology. That of course means that the city and university themselves will have countless opportunities for me to try and smooth out the rough edges of my leadership skills. But I
I believe that I'm good in coming up with optimizing and innovative solutions. I feel good when I learn something new. I like when I can do something in a new way. I believe I have leadership skills. I’m emotionally stable and will remain calm under difficult situations. I can manage people with different personalities and can encourage them for improvement.
Since I was in elementary school, my parents and teachers have encouraged us to be leaders in every activity. When I prepared for to application of universities, my advisors told me I should emphasize my quality of leadership to attract admissions officers. Is leadership so important for all people to be successful? What will happen if everyone desires to be a leader?
A leader by its meaning is one who goes first and led by example, so that others are motivated to follow. To be a leader, a person must have a deep rooted commitment to the goal that they will strive to achieve even when nobody follows! This definition is not even half the meaning for a leader especially for my leader this meaning does her no justice. My leader is an award winning writer and communications professional who leverages extensive media experience with a solid writing/producer background to develop and execute content that increase engagement and heightens awareness. She is a highly effective story teller with proven track records in launching creative initiatives that appeal to large audience and are completed within tight deadlines
To me, it is important that you give back what you have gotten from people around you, your community, and your school. Volunteering gives you the opportunity to help others, meet new people, and also learn new skills. In one of my volunteering experiences I was able to not particularly, learn but build on my leadership skill. Leadership to most, is an arbitrary term used to define a person’s ability to direct a group of people. But what most don't know is that, leadership is not only one type of person, and the traits of leaders differ depending on each person as well. However, even with this being true, all leaders better their environment and maintain a positive environment in which makes working in a team more efficient. One example of leadership and it’s traits accompanying it as well, would be when I partook in a final exam review for psychology at Houston Community College and helped college students prepare for the exam.
Being a leader does not necessarily mean having a big title. A leader is someone who has a positive attitude no matter what issues are passing by. Not only is it your attitude towards issues but towards people too. How can you expect people to follow when you know what to do to solve the problem but you don’t know how to lead the people? Being a leader is not a simple task, but it is not something you choose to be, it just comes naturally.
The aim of this assignment is to analyze the relevant concepts, theories and models about leadership and describe one person who could be identified as leader and analyze how effective this person’s leadership is and why it is effective. Defining what is leadership comes first, second will provide an overview about my organization and the importance of leadership. Moving forward will address the different type of leaders and the difference between management and leadership. We will address as well, the theories of effective leadership; and last but not least, identify our leader and conclude a summary of this assignment.
The Oxford American dictionary defines leadership as the act of leading a group of people. To me, that’s a bit understated. In my opinion, leadership, and the act of being a leader, is much more than that. Leadership is having the responsibility to stand in front of a group of people and be able to inspire and influence them to work toward a common goal. Leadership is having the trust of the people you are representing to help the team make positive changes and positive steps forward towards that goal. Leadership is an act of selflessness to do what’s right for the group as a whole, and not just yourself. A leader is ethical, assertive, progressive, and inclusive. Leadership is taking responsibility for the actions of your team, and it’s up
Leadership. It is something that everyone strives to achieve and is a trait that can affect every person in the smallest of ways. It is quite a unique feature, and one very hard to come by, with so many leaders nowadays in short supply. As I always like to say, “One million starts with one”. It only takes one person, only one idea, to revolutionize the way that one million people can think. A leader can open our minds and touch our hearts in ways we didn’t know possible. They can help shape the world with their ideas and the foundation of the people supporting them. Like I said before, true leaders today are in short supply. However, I can give this University a new type of leadership that has not been seen before.
“Ultimately, leadership is not about glorious crowning acts. It 's about keeping your team focused on a goal and motivated to do their best to achieve it, especially when the stakes are high and the consequences really matter. It is about laying the groundwork for others ' success, and then standing back and letting them shine. -Chris Hadfield “
Imagine you’re going on a hike through the woods, and after an hour or two you’re ready to head back, but as you look around at all your friends you realize no one knows how to get back. Being a leader means coming forward and taking charge, and figuring out the safest and fastest way to get you and your friends back home to safety. Many leaders have many different behaviors and ways that they lead. Many times my friends turn to me to make decisions about what we will do, where we will go, or simply where we will eat. My actions toward the situation define my leadership skills.
Leadership is something that can come naturally to some, but challenging to others. Some struggle to find their voice, while others are heard too much. In a busy world like today, it is easy to spot leaders and their “followers”. But this is especially challenging for our younger generation due to many things. But all young leaders and leaders in general, possess similar traits that make them the leaders that they are. In my short essay, I will go over the commitments and traits of a leader, challenges of being a young leader, and why do I consider myself to be a leader.
