Leadership is a privilege that carries with it many responsibilities to inspire others, and to direct individuals to attain the vision and goals of an organization. As an effective leader it is my job to be flexible, be an excellent communicator, be a person who leads by example, and is an individual who is committed, resourceful, and reflective. Achieving the characteristics above, I have developed a definite purpose in mind; one that is shared and modeled in and outside of my school environment. With such growth mindset, I teach, present workshops and empowers others to make decisions that will develop future leaders. To lead by example, I became a mentor for first-year teachers. Furthermore, I orchestrate educational committees, encouraging
Among society, there is a common longing for success. Success, however it is defined, is only achieved through leadership in some form. Whether a person becomes a public leader in his church, in his country, or simply a leader in his own life, it takes a leader to put in the effort to achieve one's hopes and dreams of success. Leadership allows a person to acquire the means necessary to meet a personal goal and ultimately reach this idea of success. Utilizing leadership skills is how I will achieve my goal of becoming a surgeon.
When I think of a leader, I see someone who stands out. I see someone who is courageous and wants to take the lead. I see someone who chooses to create there own path, rather than taking the one everyone else is taking. As I learn about the qualities and the traits of leadership, I began to self evaluate on how I see myself as a leader.
One who is in a leadership position must be knowledgeable in his or her field. If one is not knowledgeable, then he or she cannot provide adequate guidance, be innovative, effectively advocate on the behalf of students, or effectively collaborate with a team of professionals. I strive to be competent by being aware of the latest evidence based research, by collaborating with my colleagues, and by pursuing more about the field of education through continuing my education as a high-quality teacher. An effective educator must be proficient in the skills needed to be a leader. If one is not competent in showing compassion, perseverance, innovation, and collaboration, one cannot depict positive acts of
There are various styles that create a strong leader. However, I believe that the best ideal way to lead, is by showing love. You can be motivational and you can be diligent, nevertheless if it accomplished without love it is done in vain.
A leader by its meaning is one who goes first and led by example, so that others are motivated to follow. To be a leader, a person must have a deep rooted commitment to the goal that they will strive to achieve even when nobody follows! This definition is not even half the meaning for a leader especially for my leader this meaning does her no justice. My leader is an award winning writer and communications professional who leverages extensive media experience with a solid writing/producer background to develop and execute content that increase engagement and heightens awareness. She is a highly effective story teller with proven track records in launching creative initiatives that appeal to large audience and are completed within tight deadlines
Who I am as a leader is derived from my personal fundamentals of leadership. The essence of leadership is having the following character traits: integrity, showing mutual respect, inspiring people, setting vision, making decisions, owning the failures, sharing the accomplishments, leading by example and never pressuring anyone into unethical actions. To me, at this time, those qualities are what make a leader. However, I am not that leader today, it is what I aspire to be. Before revealing the leader I am today, I will explain where the fundamentals, listed above, originate.
Leadership is an indefinable word. There is no definitive leader because every single group needs a different leader. For example, a group of children need a different leader than a group of adults and a group of rowdy people need a different leader than a laid back group of people. A leader needs to be constantly adapting to each and every situation, assessing every little reaction and changing their approaches. As well as being constantly adapting, a leader is constantly learning new ways to handle a group and gain their attention. Leaders need always be flexible with their methods, always be ready to learn new methods, and ready to be proven wrong.
Leadership is many things. It is humble, playing to your strengths and knowing your weaknesses, giving people the tools they need to succeed, and influencing others to achieve a common goal. My personal favorite is: being a coach with a passion for developing your players.
In my next sit down with Mr. James, I decided to focus more on his interest and his leadership abilities. Although we spoke on who inspires him and what motivates him to stay in the music education field, I still felt the need to dig deeper into why he chose to be a music educator. After greeting him and taking a seat I got started with my first question “What are some of your interest?” After taking a minute to think about the question Mr. James took a deep breath and responded “I am interested in many different. Primarily, what I am most concerned with is music, community, and politics. Music again because I feel like it connects most of my other interest. It’s a form of communication, whether your happy or sad it gives you emotion and an
With regards to leadership, my strength lies in my desire to help everyone. A leader has to put the group first and make every decision with that principle in mind. When freshman approach me in the hallway, eyes wide with terror and uncertainty, I stop and ask them what they need. If the track team needs and extra runner for a race, even if I despise that race, I’ll step up. My philosophy is to lead by example, not by command. I’ve found that simply telling people what to do is the most ineffective way to actually get them to do it. For example, I am very passionate about track and want the track team to do extremely well at state this year. Instead of giving a rousing speech about courage and strength, I started training months in advance. By making myself better, I encourage others to be better too. I’m not the best on the team by a longshot, but by working hard I inspire others to be better than me. My goal by the end of track season is not to be the best on the team, but for the rest of the team to be better because of me. By doing that extra lap I hope to inspire others to do the same.
What does it mean to be a leader? Do you look at strong political figures, or humble community organizers? Do you look to glamorous movie stars, or to brilliant scientists? Would you say these people are leaders in what they do?
Many people are leaders but some are not. It take a lot to be a leader. What does it take to be a good leader? Am I a leader or a follower? How do I know I’m a leader or a follower? Who follows me and when do they follow? When and where do I follow and can leaders cause difficulties for Christians? All of these questions will be addressed in this paper. I hope these questions make you think about yourself and help you become a better leader.
"If it ain't broke, don't fix it." I use to be the upholder of this saying prior to beginning my studies in Organizational Leadership. I was not a person who liked change. As a matter of fact, I hated it. I could never understand why we had to change something at work when nothing was wrong with it in the first place. I thought it was stupid and a waste of time. Now, I have come to understand why change is so important. It is catalyst to improving oneself and the growth of an organization. I have become open to performing activities in fundamentally new ways, even though the old way worked just fine domestically. In my previous workplace, I was charged with heading the transition from our old software system to the new one. We would be using this new software for all of our current and future
Leadership means to me is more about people than self. This is the foundation of my leadership philosophy. A good leader creates opportunities to his or her subordinates to be success. I believe that actions speak louder than words. Therefore, I think leading by example is one of the most effective leadership quality out there. As a leader, I think the ultimate satisfaction is when you know that your subordinates are capable of carrying out organization mission successfully without you. These were the facts I had on my mind about my leadership philosophy. I visited CDR Brown to get his opinion about my vision on leadership.
Confidence, communication and commitment are just three of many traits that a leader possesses. Having those traits may help you become a leader but continuous hard work and dedication makes you one. To continue to be a leader you must also be intelligent, courageous, and determined. Becoming a leader is difficult but continuing to be one is even more difficult.
