My philosophy is that leadership is embodied in an individual that are willing to help others for the better of everyone and the community. Leaders are empathic to those who follow and they sense that they do have a responsibility to uphold. What I like about a leader is they "practice what they preach." I would still say that my leadership is more of democratic practice. I like to hear everyone's opinion. That could lead to a long process of making a decision but I would like to have the majority of the organization's input. If the process takes too long, I know that as a leader I would make the ultimate decision. As a leader, I enjoy being involved in all assignments/projects that arise. Being involved does mean that I would be able to give
My view on leadership before coming into college was very brief. I knew what leadership was in a vague way, not in the descriptive way that I have learned about in this perspectives on leadership class. At first, I thought a leader was someone you just looked up to for a specific reason. During this class I have learned that leadership is so much more than that. A leader is someone who you can look up to but in a way that you know you can fully trust them with anything, and the things they say are accurate and they hold them self to a high standard. A leader does not just have one quality they have a bunch of qualities and traits that connect them as a leader.
I think a leader is a person who can stand up for what they believe in. They don’t give up. If someone or something discourages they they will take a stand. Or if his/her friends, acquaintances, or anyone in general, they will take a stand in what they believe in. They don’t call people names or betray them behind their backs, they try to stop that. Leaders try their best. They believe everyone can do anything if they at least try. When a leader gets a chance to do good, they will.
As a leader I believe in service, initiative, and plan. I have always believed leadership is serving others and working well with others to achieve a mission. As a leader I promise to lead by always having a a clear vision, articulating it clearly, and providing a sense of purpose for our work. I believe in the power of diversity, so I seek goals and strategies that are clearly different than others and focus purposefully on improving those. Because of these views, you can expect me to be a builder, building positive, different, and valuable work relationships, and demonstrating an alignment and purpose about the values in all the things I help lead.
I believe that a leader should own their strengths and understand their weaknesses. By owning their strengths, they can use those to lead, and by understanding their weaknesses they can know when to go to others for help. Related to that, I believe that leaders should lead with humility. They should understand that they do not always have all the answers and that is okay. I believe that leaders should be good listeners to truly understand what others are saying. I think they should listen to opinions that differ from theirs, and not necessarily be easily persuaded, but be able to listen openly and fairly. Leaders should be intelligent, they should be able to see the consequences of decisions, know who to go to for assistance when needed, and know the appropriate time to take risks. Leaders should try to know and understand the individuals they are leading. It can make leading difficult if one does not know what people need from their leader. I believe that leaders should be respectful, to those they work with and those they are leading. They should be empathetic, once again not necessarily letting the persuade them, but at least try to understand where others are coming from. Finally, I think leaders should possess emotional intelligence. By possessing or understanding their emotional intelligence, leaders will for example, not make rash decisions based off of their emotions, but will take
“Leadership is the willingness to show people the path to success, driving people to surpass even themselves.” -Steffanee Sawyer. Leadership is something with many different meanings. It can mean something completely different to one person than another. It is always important for a leader to make sure others are succeeding as well as the leader themselves. It is
My view on leaders is that leaders are those who accept additional responsibility above normal for decisions making and guiding others. Leaders will usually help direct others to become successful. Individuals usually choose their leader, whether it's a good decision or not, each person chooses who they follow. They will judge by behavior, attitude and actions. Qualities of a positive leader are shown in their actions and words.
Who comes to mind when you hear the word leader? Do you think of your president, your teammate, your classmate, your coach or even your teacher? How would you define their leadership? Everyone has their own definition of what a leader is or should be. There are many different leadership styles that one may need to share, or prefer to use, depending on the situation or what the leadership is used for, such as, a captain of a team is going to have different styles of leadership compared to a president of a country. To be a leader, one must guide and inspire with the use of words, but most importantly guide with actions. It is important as leader to be mindful of how actions set an example to those that they lead. If a leader says one thing,
For me leadership is leader should be good and humble person. And leader should be kind to others and her/his team. Leader get success when they work with their team. Team work is really important for leader. Everyone
Taking this course and reading most of the book from Peter G. Northouse as well as listening to the lectures and videos that have been throughout, I have learned that there are many different aspects of leadership and there are many different definitions and aspects that can change those definitions. According to Seeman (1960), “leadership is acts by persons which influence other persons in a shared direction” (p. 3). This is the definition that I have been following my whole life. Wherever I go I thought that whatever you do as long as you have followers who tend to follow the same direction that makes you a leader. I never thought of the actions being right or wrong or the followers going down their own path I was simply stuck on this definition. After reading the book and learning there was more to that definition I was able to come up with a definition of leadership that I have been living by since this past spring and it has elevated my leadership skills to a great height. I think that leadership has three components: to listen, to inspire and to empower. Since becoming a president of an organization here at Florida State University those three things have made being a President so much easier. I have learned a lot from others just by simply listening to what they say rather than being focused only on my needs. It has caused me to learn from others and really understand people’s point of view. Being an inspiration is important. As a leader you want the people that
What is the definition of a leader? That is a question that many try to answer and most try to define leadership from a business point of view. In other words, they define it from the point of view of the ability to direct, give orders or organize people. For me a leader represents much more than that, a leader is that person who not only grows personally, grows together with the people around him or her, a leader is one who inspires change, who directs, supports, motivates, listens and impels others through good actions and a good example. A leader is that person who recognizes achievements, shares things and is there to point out your weaknesses when you do not achieve the desired results. Being a leader, is to achieve all of
Leadership has many styles and it means different things to different people. I like the definition of leadership as setting the direction and as leaders helping themselves and others to do the right thing to move forward. To do this they create an inspiring vision and motivate others to reach that vision. I have always tried to accomplish this when placed in a leadership role, and it should always be strived for.
To me leadership is any person who leads by example and has the integrity to do the right thing even when it is not popular. It is someone who is humble, always puts forth their best effort and places others before themselves no matter the situation. Leadership is about being the best you can be for yourself and sticking up for others when they can’t do it themselves.
The dictionary defines Leadership as “The capacity or ability to lead” or ”Guidance; Direction”. Many people think it is simply about being successful, but it comes down to more than that. Leaders are those people that use their skills in leadership to make a difference. Leadership is a quality hidden in the personality of a human being. Human personality is very complex and it is very difficult to grade individuals according to one’s personality. Leadership, on the other hand, depends on the organic structure of the personality, which includes experience, skill, responsibility, intelligence, power of organizing people and social interaction.
The World Book Dictionary, Volume Two L-Z, 1980 edition, defines leadership as the condition of being a leader; the ability to lead; and guidance or direction. According to Nathan F. Iannone, author of many books on leadership, it can be defined as the art of influencing, directing, guiding, and controlling others in such a way as to obtain their willing obedience, confidence, respect and loyal cooperation in the accomplishment of an objective. Leadership is a trait that is extremely valuable in any society. Leadership is known as a relational process of people attempting to make a difference in a situation. Because of this and the moral and social influence leaders have in our lives, it is very important to know more about it. Leaders
Summarizing the idea of Leadership that I have researched, in my opinion, is the capacity to conduct followers to reach goals. Leaders convince followers the necessity of a leadership group to achieve the success. And although, followers use their own expertise to complete a job, they need to be driven by a Leader. A Leader exerts a certain power and influence in their follower that can be direct or indirect. An effective leader knows how to extract the best ability from each follower and although the skill belongs to the followers, some of them perform better when is conducted by a Leader. The ability to influence, comprehends and agree with others about what is necessary to be completed and how doing it as such, as to support individuals
