In 66 years, you can’t imagine how much has changed in the world. When I was talking to my grandmother, I was surprised at how many similarities and differences I heard. Some of the things I learned about was their transportation, school, and what she did for entertainment. I realized that this world is very different than the world she grew up in and we should be grateful for what we have.
My grandma’s name is Usha Patel and she currently is 66 years old. She was born in Umalla, India and she grew up with her brother, parents, and her grandparents. During that time period, nobody owned phones or any type of technology. If they wanted to contact people, they would have to mail letters. There were post offices almost around every corner. Unlike today, they had dirt roads for the vehicles to drive on. Their transportation was mostly by foot, but there were some people with cars. Their environment wasn't that advanced yet, but there were rickshaw’s for transportation if they had to go somewhere far. My grandmother’s school was in her village. By that I mean, very close, not even miles away. Everyday she would walk to school with her friends. Her school was a lot like ours today. My grandma did have very strict teachers, but she also had fun. They played sports like us and they had the same subjects as we do. She had science, history, reading, math, and they also got to take a language which was English. In history class, my grandmother learned things that were similar to
I enjoyed reading your interview with your Grandmother, she sounds so much like my Grandmother. How she grew up also sounds a lot like how I grew up, just different times. We didn’t have a lot of money but we were happy. My Mother worked her whole life and still works today, she had lots of trouble raising four children until she met my Dad who adopted us. I remember we were getting canned food delivered to our trailer at one point before she met my Dad. It all changed when my Dad found my Mom and married her and took on all four of us. For some reason, I couldn’t help but to remember making mud pies and building forts in our yard. That was one thing we did have was a huge back yard with a fence, so we would pretend the yard was our ocean full of sharks. We would climb around the fence and if we fell, we got eaten by the sharks. For some reason this interview made me think of those great memories.
So i spent the night at my grandma and grandpas and in the morning we all woke up in the morning we all got in the van and all the kids including me took nap in back and when we got there we had to put camper up and take boat to ramp to get it to the campsite
Religion has always been around for many years and will continue to live on. Since 2014, there are an estimated 4,200 different religions, all over the world each believing in different things Having their own set of rules and tradition that must be followed. Storytelling became a way to give people advice or telling people what would happen if they disobey their religious rules or tradition. In the story of a grandmother, it critiques religion for the way it can lead to snap judgments and a loss of freedom.
The modern day world is much different than it used to be one hundred years ago. Conditions now are very different from those of the past, such as how people communicate, dress, and live their daily lives. My grandmother, Linda, agreed to sit down with me and explain the changes and historic events she experienced throughout her lifetime. Her full name is Linda Marie Batye, and she was born on April 26th, 1947, making her sixty-nine years of age. Although she is retired, Linda was an executive assistant at South County Bank in Boone County. After divorcing my grandfather before I was born, she now resides in Columbia with her dog, Squirt. After asking her many questions, I began to weave historic events and her life together.
It was near the end of winter 2005, when my grand-aunt suddenly fell ill. In a short period of time her illness worsened and the doctors informed my family, my grand-aunt only had a couple of months to live. The news was devastating to my family as we watched a vivacious, independent, and outspoken woman, who enjoyed shopping, reading mystery novels and spending time with family become very weak and confined to her bed. Instead of placing my grand-aunt in a hospice facility, my family and I, with the assistance of a hospice nurse cared for my grand-aunt in her home until her passing.
Who in your life has caused you to become a better person? For some people it's a parent who has shaped you since the day that you were born. For others it's the stranger who always says hi to you when you see them on the street. Maybe it’s the couple down the block who struggles to make ends meet, but always has a positive attitude. It may even be the person who has hurt you the most. These people make us a better person even when we least expect it. I never realized the effect my grandmother had on my life until she stopped recognizing me.
Ever get the chance to put together your own outfit for the day? Well, I mean literally have you ever had to sew together your outfit? If not, well let me start it off with “WOW!”, grandma's work isn’t as easy as it seems. Not only did i learn how difficult it is to sew, but i had the chance to be able to express my funny side. This week i chose as one of my portfolios a unique project, where i sewed together my outfit. At first, i envisioned it being a joke, since i would never wear it personally, but I saw the fun and good vibes it would bring to the classroom atmosphere. We started off with the simple idea of creating one of the outfits used by one of the boys in the movie, The Sound of Music. First, we had to sketch out a drawing of the outfit to get an
Just last winter, I went to my grandma’s house to visit them. I spent the night there too. When we opened her house door her dog barked. She had a white furred dog and she was a small dog too. About 2 hours after my parents, brother, and sister left I watched a movie and ate popcorn with my grandma. When I woke up I went to the kitchen to eat breakfast. We ate small white powdered donuts and chocolate milk. About an hour after we ate, my grandma asked me if I wanted to make the potato candy she makes every winter. I excitedly ran like a cheetah to the kitchen to help her. When I got there my grandma and I got out the ingredients. We carefully opened the powdered sugar and it smelled like I was in sugar land.The bag kind
On the first day of eleventh grade It was just another sunny morning Until the phone started ringing And it was hard to believe what I was hearing How was it even possible that grandma was no more? My world shattered into a million pieces,
“When I was alive, everything my grandmother did was bad. But an odd thing happened when she arrived in her rented limo that day, opened up out house, and braged in. She was, in all her obnoxious finery, dragging the light back in.” (100) It was the day of my memorial and my Grandma Lynn had came a few days before it. My grandma is the queen of fashion so she made sure everyone in my family was going to look their absolute best for my memorial. I love my family so much, that it just brings me pain to have to see them so depressed. I am glad that my grandma can bring some light back into their dark world. I just want them to know that I am with them always, even though they can not see me. I am happy that my grandma was able to lighten up the
I remember it like it was yesterday, even though I was only three. We were all at home;
My sense of independence was shattered when my grandmother departed from this world. I lost my grandmother and this experience shattered my perspective of life. Losing a loved one was like having a wisdom tooth pulled without any Novocain.
It all began when I was about five years old, having sleepovers in my great grandma’s room. She loved telling stories and playing dress up with me. In her room she kept a lot of pillows on her bed. She had fancy pillows in a variety of sizes, shapes, colors, and textures. Every time I entered her room, she would allow me to jump around on the bed filled with pillows. All that jumping around and having all that fun felt amazing, and that's when I fell in love with one of her pillows and named it Bobby.
I will tell you a tale of a woman of great success. This is a woman that has inspired me to be something great one day and to never give up trying. Though she may be growing into her elderly years she has lived a very challenging, joyful, loving and successful life. She is a woman of great faith and character, she is my grandmother.
t was the moment I had been waiting months for. The comforting aromas of bread and tea met my nose the instant I stepped through the doorway. Beautifully-written, thought-provoking books sat on the shelves, waiting to be read while soft strains of celtic lullabies floated through the halls. Excitedly, I bolted up the entryway steps to the arms of some of the most meaningful people in my life- Bumma and Boppy.
