This was the first time in my life I felt about walking away from a deal before I heard all of it. I was sure this deal was going to be too good to be true by the look on the man’s smug face, and that alone said loudly to turn this offer down. If it wasn’t for me knowing how the little fat gravity ball baring got his black eye, I would ask for an explanation to piss the man off. I’ve never liked the man, but my father had paid the man a small fortune to change his Fifth Level vitals to be acceptable for an Eight Level Matrimonial Listing. I may have been near the bottom of the list, but I did receive a few calls for blind dates. I never knew who my father had made a deal with, but whoever it was, they wanted several unasked favors …show more content…
When the man had requested a meeting trough one of the people who worked for my father and was not retired, I was curious. I had my people insuring he wasn’t followed and did what was necessary to prevent anyone from knowing about this unusual meeting that was about to take place. I must admit I was shocked when the request came from a trusted member of my father’s organization. Now I knew how my father was able to guarantee I would be listed high in the Matrimonial Listing and removed totally from the marriage list. “Excuse me,” I cut the man off from the constant stream of pain he was causing to my ears. “I’m sure being the Director of the Marriage Examiner’s Office makes your time precious and worth more than I can give you. I would hate to rush you allowing someone like me the honor of speaking with you, but many will notice you are missing and wonder where you are.” “That is true,” said the Director Pincer, with an oily smile. “You seem as wise as your father. I’ll get to the point. I need a favor and willing to help you in return.” “I guess you being an old friend of my father and not mine, what would that favor be.” The Ford clearly understood what was just said to him and he didn’t like it at all. He should’ve known this meeting wasn’t going to be as they were in the past the moment he was escorted into a brightly lighted room. Not only that, he served by a beautiful woman of some expensive clear carbonated liquor and
My great aunt, on my grandfather’s side, was a beautiful woman in her time. She was a tall 5’5 with long french hair that rested in little curls at the ends. Her skin was a light coffee color much like mine. Her facial features displayed an uncharacteristically delicate quality for her environment. she was a nexus for all types of attention, good and bad. When she was at the ripe age of sixteen a man, almost twice her age arrived to the front porch. He intended to inquire about a date. when the doorbell rang he crooked a sly smile, not expecting to be greeted by the stoic face of my great grandfather. My great grandmother exact words were something like “That burly man weren’t expecting your grand daddy. His smiled dropped so quick you could feel the breeze.” I can
Seven years earlier, I migrated to Hawaii when I was twenty-three. I had flown away from my mother and my life in the Philippines. Like young adults and being rebellious, I wanted to live on my own away from my mother 's roof. I left the city life I grew up with in the Philippines in hope of a better life in another country.
John was quiet for the rest of the night he knew that every time he would try to talk we would just shut him up by calling him dumb. We walked in the door, to see that everyone was leaving. I knew that I was probably going to embarrass myself. Daniel, Emmanuel and John said good byes to Daniel’s relatives. I was making a huge effort to not make eye contact with anyone else by pretending to be interested with a commercial on the T.V. Unexpectedly I was tapped on the shoulder by Daniel's Aunt.
“Well, your father and I decided it was time I came to stay with you for a while to help Calpurnia.”
He took a sip of water to rid his torrid throat and began to speak. “Love I am sorry, about everything. You clean this house and make our dinners. You watch our son and most of all you support me any time I need it. You did not deserve the cruel things I said to you. I am truly sorry.” Mary Ann felt something ping at her heart, she almost wanted to forgive him but Henry did not stop there. “I know you must of have felt alone and scared when I pushed you away but you know how I am with work. The other officers will mock me for having a wild wife and-”
The moment I emerged from the stairway I began to stare at the man sitting in the chair across the room. This man was not the man I remembered; this man was pale, weak, and lacked motivation. He was not my grandpa: outspoken, stubborn, and jolly. However, the house had not changed one bit. There was still a cluttered mess on the table and reminisce of my departed great-grandma all throughout the house.
The man’s face that stared reluctantly and quite relieved I would guess looked torn between two different emotions. Stress and grief caught at both angles of his eyes and around his mouth, which appeared subdued to an unsmiling life. I was actually intendedly stricken for the man who stood so solemnly before me and I am certain that my contortedly horrified face appeared unwelcoming and disgusted. This however was not the way I was brought up to think or even in my own independent mind suggested such a cruel thought. For though I was horrified at how dreadful he seemed, I was sympathetic and welcoming indeed! The man bowed lamely and presumed that he understood how I would not let him in, I shook my head slightly and confused as I was he seemed more. He considered my nod as if to decipher whether or not it meant yes or no then deciding on the negative answer he started to slump off slowly. Panicked though I was at the misunderstanding, soon regaining the momentum of the events I called out hastily. “Sir, I am welcoming for you!” the man turned just his head with a look of absolute surprise and he drawlingly returned to where he had stood before. I had never seen a man this close to me before in such conditions, in truth he looked ready to
“Darling, you look absolutely stunning in that gown- when I walked in, my eyes were immediately drawn to you. I am sorry that I had to leave you so suddenly, but I dared not risk losing the cargo I had aboard; and not by any means am saying that it was more important than you-”
"I'm Mr. Jones nephew. He passed away and left me all this usless junk. Are you interested in anything?" He asked, as my eyes fell on a ceramic statue of the Virgin Mary. He smiled.
Times were changing, for Gawain, eager to return to his new wife, was the first to leave the tavern. In the past, he’d linger at the Cup and Sword and encourage more drinking and perhaps gambling, but Lionel admired how Gawain was maturing. It amazed Lionel his close friends had all found women who brought out the best in them and improved their lives in so many ways.
When I returned home from visiting Jerry’s brother. Opening my mailbox, I found an envelope without a return address on it. Recognizing Jerry’s secretary, Angela’s handwriting, I hesitated to open it, since I wasn’t interested in reading about her wild love affair with my husband. At first, I started to put it in the trash, and then thought I might want to read it later, sticking the envelope in my purse, I went in the house.
Was it wrong of me to have imagined this moment thousands of times before this day? Of course my father had tried to be genial, but I could see the slight pleasure in his eyes when the young man was approaching the door on the right. Only a few more seconds until these jealous thoughts that have been haunting me for months finally vanish, and the subordinate man who has caused them vanishes as well.
"Yes mother, for the sake of helping, this time I won't let my father down." he said.
It was a dark and stormy night when the woman entered my office. Ms. Silverfox slinked into the room, legs up to here. I was reclining on my chair smoking a cigar when the Broad slapped a wad of bills on my table. By eight o’clock she was done rambling about her case and it seemed like a easy fix. Little did I know this easy fix that pertained to her marriage annulment was covering much more than a cheating husband. I had been hired to go undercover in a covert investigation to find proof that her ex-husband had swindled her out of a million dollars.
“I will help you, but with one condition. You have to let me stay here. My father mistreats me and I can defend you from the townspeople as they are planning on killing you,” replied
