Love for community I have done a significant amount for my community but they have also done an enormous amount for me. On saturdays with my sports team we would feed the homeless and needy. We would also talk to them and ask how they were doing and what goals they have for the future. During this time period I met wonderful people and realized that I loved my community. At school I felt this same emotion whether it be helping students, teachers, staff members, and even the janitor. As a team captain I had to try my best to better my team. I achieved this by keeping their heads up when they were down, giving them gear, helping with rides, and overall just being a good genuine friend.I try to make my community a better place because they have helped me and my family when we were low. I will forever be grateful for this and never forget where I came from. In the future I plan to donate to charities around my community. I also plan to give a hand in feeding the homeless, cleaning up parks, building houses, and just anything I could help in basically. I wanna give back to my community because without them I would be nothing. I hope one day that my community instead becomes a family in which there is one love. People have disdain for this city but in reality they are just running from their problems. Why not be that rose that grows in concrete. Ball is life My greatest talent is Basketball without a doubt. I’ve been playing basketball for about 3 years and have played for my
I believe in contributing to the community. I am a member of the National Honor Society and we do volunteer work for the school and through the community. It seems every other week there is an opportunity to volunteer in which I am eager to take part. In addition, as a Third Party Representative for a civics class called Project 18, I spend at least two hours a week emailing and calling potential guest speakers and creating PowerPoint slideshows that I will present. .
I offer my services to the community in a way that many people wouldn’t expect. Due to financial issues I wasn’t able to volunteer the way that I wanted to but that didn’t change anything. In my area and amongst peers I have become someone they can come to in times of needs, whether it’s for a place to sleep, a hot meal, or an outlet for their emotional and mental distress. I have done extensive research on how to handle certain mental illnesses and emotional outburst so I can be prepared to give everyone the care they need. I am also very active in educating other members of my family and community about mental illness, sexual abuse, and emotional abuse in the black community. I found that there are many ways to give back to the community.
I give back to my community by collecting and donating canned goods to my local food bank. I understand the situation from those that need it because my family has had times where we needed the
I do many service activities for the betterment of my community and some examples are for instance in Texas for 5 years I volunteered at the Salvation Army during the holidays to pass out toys, clothes and food to families in need. I helped organize a breast cancer awareness fundraiser where we helped kids build box cars, sell raffle tickets, and barbecue to raise awareness and bring a twinkle of hope and happiness. I also regularly volunteered at the Shade Tree woman’s shelter here in Las Vegas. It gives me great joy that I can give my energy and time to those who are going through dark times with comfort and support they are yearning for.
I have participated in many activities that served to help others such as, taking my time to help at the Adult’s Day Care, help with anything that is needed at the nursing home, and on the weekends I would volunteer at the Youth Basketball Summer League by working at the concession stand, collecting ticket money, work for the scoreboard, and coach for my team. I also believe it is better to give than to receive. I donate money and toys to the St. Jude Children Research Hospital as well as giving to the Wounded Warriors. In addition to giving to the Wounded Warriors, my father and I participated in the cook off in honor of the warriors that have fought for our
I do many severces to my community. I give money and support PETA against animal cruelty. I donate to many organizations such as Doctors Without Borders and St.Jude's
I wasn’t aware of the importance of doing good for others, until recently that I witnessed it with my own eyes. It all started when was at Chicago, a random man helped out a homeless man and bought him some food. I noticed as I was in line that the cashier then gave the helping man a free choice to pick something he wanted due to the action he did. After that day I began to make an attempt at helping out more and being a better person in general.
I understand the strength of a community is measured by what people put into it. I will actively volunteer my time and talents for the common good.
I have always enjoyed helping people out. In my school they have a club called National Honors Society. This club gives people more of an opportunity to do community service hours. Everyone is required to complete fifteen hours a year. Last year I completed over twenty five hours of community service. Every time I saw I had an opportunity I would take it. I don't see those fifteen hour requirements as the only way to be and stay in this club; I see it as an opening to be able to help my community all for a return of a smile. People need to see that there are others just like me, who are willing to help, and want the best for others, for nothing in return. I have never known why it is that helping others when they are needed makes me feel happy. In a way, it's one of my happiness's. I know what it's like to have a need and to not have anyone around to help. I am the kind of person who doesn't want others to feel that way, at least not all the time. I know every day someone has a need of some kind and they can't do anything about it. That's what people like me are for, to help out even if it's just every once in a while. Events all around constantly need help setting things up or just need a little help. All the help people can get is always good enough. I am taking responsibility to help people see that not everyone is selfish, not everyone takes advantage of things. I am always grateful to be able to give my time to my community, my people. America needs more people who are willing to give. Donations can be made to hospitals or orphanages. I do community service and projects now, they may be little, but I know they still matter. In my future, I see myself to continue my route, possibly even creating bigger community projects. Because America can only focus on so much, people like me are able to take care of the rest of the
I have developed a strong work ethic, time management skills, goal-setting abilities, and mental toughness. I have worked hard to become a leader, gain decision-making skills, and overcome adversity. Basketball gave me the opportunity to function within a team for the success of the group. Everyone has to accept their role for the team to reach greater heights. This will carry over to my future career as a physician assistant because I will be a fundamental member of a healthcare team.
I feel that after all of the sacrifices that have been made by the community for my benefit, I have an obligation to give back and re-pay what has been given and more, I have an immense amount of appreciation and gratitude toward my community and all they have done for my peers and I. Community service also plays a big role in my involvement in the youth group at First Baptist Church of Bryson City. each year, a group of teenagers, including myself, participate in multiple community service projects -- whether they are as close to home as the Hospital Hill Road clean-up, or a far away as mission work in Port-au-Prince, haiti. I have been involved in many community service projects, because giving back to my community is something that simply gets done without
When I first glanced at the prompts and saw the one that asked me to speak of a passion of mine, I knew that this was definitely the prompt I had to choose. My passion is my love for comedy. Comedy has always been a huge part of my life and continues to be to this day. It has encompassed my life for as long as I can remember. Whether I was looking to others to make me laugh, developing laughter from being around my family, or myself making others laugh the memories are embedded in my mind. With these memories I have come to the conclusion that I have always found a way to make others laugh. I really don’t know if I make people laugh to gain friends or some other reason; whatever it may be, it has sparked a realization that this is something I love to do.
My community has done so much for me. Giving back to my community is the least I could do for what all it has done for
“Basketball is my favorite sport, I like the way they dribble up and down the court” – Kurtis Blow. My love for basketball started when I was very young, fifth grade to be exact. Growing up I always wanted to try out for my school’s basketball team. When I was young I use to always hear stories about my mom playing basketball throughout junior high and high school. Some of which made me want to play and do something that she loved to do. I eventually started loving the sport as much or even more than she did. This story goes way back to the fifth grade when I first tried out for the basketball team at my elementary school.
“The greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate actions of its members” (Coretta Scott King). A community consists of many individuals and how those individuals act, either alone or together, will determine whether the community will foster or die. Consequently, in order to be an effective individual in my own communities, I believe that being true to myself and really immersing myself is a powerful way to impact any community. For the most part, two of my communities are Providence College and Pasa Esek Hopkins. Reading about great leaders like MLK and Mother Teresa, who advocate for such strong love of neighbor and standing up for beliefs in the face of adversity, is at the focal point of my inspiration. I believe that believing in one’s self is how an individual can shine in their own community.
