I have always found sound to play a major role in my life, beyond the obvious use of my senses. I always appreciated sounds for the solace and comfort I’ve found in them while living in this world. Listening to music and hearing certain sounds are the quickest way to relive moments in your past instinctively. The past moments that sound forces one to recall and the consequent emotions constantly piqued my attention. Sounds is easily associated with moments because of the natural orchestra of changing seasons. Every season has its signature instrument that registers differently with each individual. Autumn is riddled with fallen leaves getting crushed beneath shoes, the ringing of sneezes and coughs due to the colder weather. Summer has its …show more content…
I vividly recall lying in bed staring into the nothingness and confronting the irrational fear of the unknown regardless that I knew there was nothing. After a while I started paying attention to what I could actually identify and used it to paint a better picture for myself. I turned a creaking old apartment building into a restless being who couldn’t get comfortable in his bed. The random cars sounds from traffic became a guessing game in which exotic Amazonian animals filled the nightscape. It wasn’t long before the night time represented fun and adventure more than paranoia. As I got older and moved around, the specific sounds that filled the night changed as well, but they still managed to have the same effect. When I moved to Georgia from New York, the difference was stark in respect to every aspect. I traded in the cars and city life, for crickets that claimed the sleeping world for themselves. I soon found different soundscapes for summer after I moved but the music of winter managed to offer the same experience. The sometimes soft crunch of snow underneath frozen trekkers still rings in my life with the same excitement with a hint of
This memory book is about a young Vietnamese, American teen name Trung that grew up in America for the past 13 years, hoping to find a better way to settle things down soon after he graduates from High School. He grew up in a house of 2 siblings, an older brother, and sister which is now living life to their full potential. Trung is a boy that is loved by many of those whom meet him. People mistaken him for being a cranky person, but truly he’s just going through ups and downs. He has good intentions, but just bad moods all the time. Although he was not the brightest kid growing up, he still has the ambition to make a positive change in his work ethic by working hard in school, and he hopes that some day he will eventually succeed in life and
The time i spent with him was my favorite. I remember every detail of each individual memory, but my favorite memories were the Autumn memories. The pumpkin patch, the fair, haunted houses, etc. I love our fair memory. We had just gotten back from eating at mcdonalds, we stopped at starbucks and picked up a Autumn themed latte. We got back to his house and laid on the cool ground with the multi-colored leaves surrounding us while we looked up at the pale yet mesmerizing sky with moving clouds.
Memory is a set of cognitive processes that allow us to remember past information (retrospective memory) and future obligations (prospective memory) so we can navigate our lives. The strength of our memory can be influenced by the connections we make through different cognitive faculties as well as by the amount of time we spend devoting to learning specific material across different points in time. New memories are created every time we remember specific event, which results in retrospective memories changing over time. Memory recall can be affected retrospectively such as seeing increased recall in the presence of contextual cues or false recall of information following leading questions. Memory also includes the process
Listening to the mariachi music at the concert I attended at San Antonio College helped me realize that the human mind can create different emotions with music. The different types of musical instruments that can be used, can help determine how an emotion can be altered. The emotions that come from listening to music also comes from the customs that the
We may think we remember everything exactly the way it happened, but we are more likely to provide less than accurate portrayals. The most common way memory distortions can negatively affect us would be a false memory. Eyewitness testimonies would be an example of memory bias. How can we trust what we say if our memories change over time to fit our current beliefs? In the Pollyanna effect, you are really only agreeing with one side of the argument. You will only see the good in any argument and hear what you want to hear instead of thinking outside the box. The illusion of truth is a tendency to believe information after having a previous encounter. The illusion of truth effect can have a negative effect on our decision because we would be
Memories shape, influence, and transform us into one unique human being. Being significant in our past, we tend to go back and reference to the negative ones. However, rough memories hinder people in their effort to learn from the past and succeed in the present and near-future. I agree with Sara Lawrence-Lightfoot to a certain extent considering that we revert to them an excessive amount of time, not allowing us to grow as people and form new memories, nonetheless, keeping the important positive memories making us feel wanted and loved as people.

How is memory encoded and what methods can lead to greater recall? There have been many different models suggested for human memory and many different attempts at defining a specific method of encoding that will lead to greater recall. In this experiment subjects are asked to do a semantic task on a word related to them and an orthographic task in which they analyze the letter in the word. The results of the experiment indicate that the words which where encoded semantically and are related to the self have greater recall.
One particular memory sticks out when I think of a time I was a good influence on someone. I was playing with my neighbor Evelyn. It was late August and she was telling me how she was afraid to start kindergarten in the fall. I am two years older than her so I had already been through two years of school. I spent the entire day telling her all about how great kindergarten is and explaining how fun the games and other kids are. When we finished talking it was decided that we would pretend that it was the first day of school. I was the teacher and Evelyn was the student, at the end of the day Evelyn said she was no longer afraid of kindergarten, she was excited. Several weeks later after school started Evelyn's mother told me how I helped Evelyn
My best memory of elementary school is funday. Funday is an all day thing. The fourth graders set up mini games inside. Then outside there was a bounce house and bigger games. Funday may not seem like the biggest thing now, but as a kid it was everything!
If I had to keep one memory, it would be my family trip to Turks and Caicos. It was the first time I had been to an all inclusive island resort vacation and I had no idea what to expect. After leaving cold New Jersey on an early morning in February we got off the plan, only a few hours later and walked down a flight of steps off the airplane. The change in temperature immediately hit my face as I felt the heat and humidity of Turks and Caicos. It was a stark contrast from the snowy, cold climate we had just left in New Jersey a few hours earlier.

A good memory it made them success in their
Memory is defined as "the persistence of learning over time through the storage and retrieval of information." Our memory can be compared to a computer's information processing system. To remember an event we need to get information into our brain which is encoding, store the information and then be able to retrieve it. The three-stage processing model of Richard Atkinson and Richard Shiffrin suggests that we record information that we want to remember first as a fleeting sensory memory and then it is processed into a short term memory bin where we encode it ( pay attention to encode important or novel stimuli) for long-term memory and later retrieval. The premise for the three step process is that we are unable to focus on too much
