My main motivation to be a CCM student was the fact that I am a high school senior, and it would make me a challenger student. This is good for college applications. Also, since I am taking college level courses, I can transfer the credits I earn here to the college I plan on attending next year. Aside from these factors, I personally thought it would be a good opportunity to see what college is like and to get a feel for what I like and dislike about college life.
Mills’ Theory can be described as the interactions between people and their environment, and explains how society shapes the way people grow and change through the course of their life, as well as how they interact as adults. The theory applies to my new experiences as a high school student attending college, as well as the personal and public issues that students and teachers deal with within the college. The majority of my reasons for attending CCM are structural factors, because they are more prominently caused by social structure (my surroundings); for example, I wouldn’t need to take a college course if I didn’t need to impress an admissions director, and I wouldn’t be in the Challenger program if the credits I earned at the college were non transferable. My main reasons for attending CCM are structural- meaning that my personal decision was heavily influenced by my environment and societal norms. Such norms include the importance of a person going to college, as well as the idea that college will, without
The MBTI (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator) has given me insightful information over 4 different dichotomies: 1)Where I focus my attention 2) How I take in information 3) How I make decisions based on the information and 4) How I deal with the world. After completing the assessment, I was dubbed ‘INTJ’. This being 9% Introvert, 38% iNtuitive, 3% Thinking, and 31% Judging. To my surprise, after reading the detailed report, I found most of the information presented, to be ‘spot on’. According to the Center for Confidence and Well-Being, “Of all the personality types, INTJs are most motivated by “vision”. They have a great need to come up with a unifying idea of a future, improved state, which is then their job to realize. This inner vision can be so strong for INTJs and so individual that they are often reckoned to be the most independent-minded of all the types” (Craig, C., 2014). This provided me with great validation that I have been lucky enough to find myself in the right career. Currently, I am the interim Director of Quality at an acute care hospital in San Diego. Daily, myself and my team are looking for ways to improve hospital processes, systems, and relationships. Always striving for a future vision or ‘ideal state’ of how we would like to see our organization functioning to better serve our community. Many people have told me that they could ‘not do what I do’ simply because of the data collecting, analyzing, reporting, and
The United States of America is known for being a country filled with people of many different ethnic backgrounds. Likewise, the student population in schools is just as diverse as it continues to grow. Lynch (2015) notes that schools are expected to teach their students “how to synthesize cultural differences into their knowledge base” as this will help “facilitate students’ personal and professional success in a diverse world” (para. 8). Educators must be able to provide for the diverse needs of students and are expected to equip students with skills that can lead to healthy development as it can affect higher levels of student achievement and students have more opportunities of success in their future. Providing students with tools and skills requires an awareness and acceptance of their ethnic identity. Once students have developed self-acceptance about their ethnic identity, they can begin to feel empowered and motivated to do well. Through cultural empowerment, students of color can develop intrinsic motivation and achieve academic success.
Motivation- My motivation for going back to school and getting my college degree is my daughter. I am almost 32 years old and it has been a long hard road for me but I want to show my daughter that it is never to late to earn your college degree. It is all about her and trying to make the best life I can for her and that starts with me making myself better and furthering my career.
There is a ton of things that motive me to go back to college. One would be my daughter; she inspires me in so many ways. Just as much as she looks up to me, I look up to her. Here lately, we have been dealing a lot with her health problems that we have found in the past 5 years. Even though her body is giving her trouble, she is going to college for Hotel Restaurant Administration and holding down a job. I am so proud of her. Then there is my son, He went to college for two years and had some trouble with it. But did really good with it. I am wanting to show them that you can go back to college and get a degree in whatever degree they want no matter how old you are or think you can’t for whatever reason.
As I have been pursuing my education, I have grown to appreciate and value my past instructors from preschool to college. My academic interests are to strive to do the best I can in my coursework as well as visualize the ways my instructors teach me so I can establish those same teaching methods onto my own teaching. I want to be on top of my grades and want my grades to reflect exactly how committed I am to becoming a teacher. I want to use what I have been taught to the best of my abilities when I the opportunity in having a teaching position. My career path has already began ever since I have tutored in high school as well as in a summer school migrant program, where I was able to instruct students and teach them many subjects such as social
Thank you for your reply. You are correct the United States are facing some unbelievable and uncontrollable debt. However, the military plays a critical role in our society. furthermore, the debt that have mounted up due to the military still do not equate to the many lives that they save. The military is set in place to protect the United States. Also, training for the military is needed due to all the attacks and threats that the United States endure. I think that every dollar that is spent on training for the protecting of everyone is a dollar that is spent well. For example, in my organization I cannot image not training individuals for the job. Consequently, if my organization do not train individuals for the job the job will not be performed correctly and will lack motivation. It is understandable that the military is trying to bridge the gap between retention and recruitment and the only ways to do that is to create awaress. Creating undergrad awareness and motivation will take a little finesse on the military part.
You are welcome! Although your evals are a "little" problem for you now, your positive motivation will be the key and driving force to your success. I have no doubt that you will do just fine in everything you decide to do. I get the feeling that you really want to succeed and that you have a positive outlook in life. Do not lose that spirit! You have a long road ahead of you and there will be many exits along the way. Do not take any exit unless it is your intention to abandon your journey. Motivation is like a roller coaster. We accelerate and lose momentum during our course. Stay physically fit and mentally sharp. The opportunities in the Navy are unlimited and it will be up to you to exploit these opportunities. Find yourself "one" (best case) or "two" (worst case) mentor for your
I choose to apply to Western State University when I thought of a new career path. Western State peaked my interest when I was talking to students that attend the college. They told me about how the class sizes are small which will provide a more one on one interaction with the professors. When I went on a visit to see Gunnison, I found that there were a lot of potential outdoor activities. Being outdoors has always been a big part of my life due to me being a Colorado Native. The campus has so many opportunities to offer with interesting clubs, activities, sports, and events. I can really see myself being a successful student at Western State. Being the second sibling to ever go to college in my family, I have set high standards goals for
Growing up in school everyone has their own motivation, it could be money, a car, or even just a good job from their parents.Everyone is going to have a motivation however, my motivation came from my dad. My dad always pushed me and motivated me through everything. Another person that has motivated me for years is my wrestling coach, Arthur Demerath. He has been my athletic motivation by believing in me and making sure I do my best in school and on the matt for the past three years.Another person that have motivated me was my Vet Science teacher at Monache, her name is Mrs.Spaulding. She knew I was a shy person and that I felt like not speaking my voice was okay. She helped me do a speaking competition that I ended up getting 2nd place in, she helped me believe that trying new things will pay off in the future. My mom on the other hand, did not like the fact I was a wrestler. She was always scared I would get injured, she would always try to convince me to wrestle anymore, she was hindering my motivation. However, she knew that wrestling was something I loved and enjoyed. To me this show it does not matter your situation you can always find something that motivates yourself in life.
What motivates me to go back to school is my kids; because they are my motivation on doing everything good with my life. You will never know when the time is too late for anything and having a degree in things with good things behind your name is wonderful now and days. I will never again give up on school I have to tell my kids the good things I did before they get old enough to remember things. School is the best thing for anyone to do with their time because education is the best thing going.
30% of employees worldwide feel inspired and engaged by their careers (Entrepreneurial Insights, 2014). There are multiple theories to suggest different types of motivation, for example financial and non-financial methods of motivation. Motivation is defined as the level at which an employee feels it is OK to perform at and what encourages them to be that way (Kelley, 2015), depending on the individual will vary on the incentives that make them want to work.
Procrastinator a person who delays or puts things off like work, chores or actions, admitting that I am one would have to be step one. So many goals so much creativity, having the power, intelligence, and character to achieve but yet I procrastinate. A flaw in a flawless young adult just like Beyoncé I to woke up like this, nevertheless when I almost got held back from high school graduation my motivation became success, but how do one achieve success? Education... I made goals in order to assure my success it’s somewhat of a layaway a system of paying a deposit to secure an item, well in my case a life plan that will later on in life belong to me. Beginning my mission mid-12th grade year it has kept me moving in the right direction and one day soon that big beautiful office and authority will be mine. What kept me motivated and going was my grandmother an ex-slave who never had the chance to attend college or high school.
Motivation is a need or desire of a person that energizes behavior and directs it toward goals. So, what is the difference between need and desire? There are two types of motivation, the intrinsic and extrinsic. Intrinsic is something within the person that energizes him to do his job like interests, curiosity, personal challenge and improvement. According to McClelland’s Acquires Needs Theory, is that needs are acquired throughout life. That needs are not innate, but are learned or developed as a result of one’s life experiences. His theory has focuses on three types of needs: need for achievement – which emphasizes the desire for success, for mastering tasks, and for attaining goals; need for affiliation – which focuses on the
College is a big step for anyone looking to attend. Anxiousness kicks in throughout the whole senior year. That one word is what defines me these past few months, that one word is constantly in my head: anxious. This is the point in time where it is my time to grow and mature into a successful student as my parents and family want from me. That is part of the reason why I’m so anxious for the next step in my life. I want to make my family and friends proud of me by continuing school and actually finishing it, however I view the pressure as motivation as well and not just as a negative thing. Another type of motivation for me would be failure, without it I wouldn’t learn from any mistakes.
Motivation is one of the most discussed topics in the present era’s organisations, especially since renowned psychologists like Maslow and Herzberg are dedicating their efforts to understanding it. Companies are investing a significant amount of resources in improving productivity in order to maximise profits. One of these important resources is of human nature. In order to get the very best out of employees, some motivational approaches need to be used. But what is motivation and how do I successfully motivate? I will try to relate one of my personal experiences with a friend to some of the most influential motivational theories. After introducing my story and making a definition of motivation I will address the ideas of Taylor,
