Introduction This author has had the pleasure of working in the nursing profession for fifteen years. Throughout those fifteen years and currently this author continues to have a deep desire and compassion to continue and grow my career in the field of nursing. This paper examines the reasons that motivate this author to continue my career in the nursing the profession, frustrations encountered along the way, and the importance of obtaining additional education such as a Bachelors of Science in Nursing. Nursing allows for diversity, countless opportunities, and offers job security. Among other benefits of the profession of nursing are good pay, great health and vacation benefits, flexible schedules, and decent work hours. Many jobs in nursing allow you to choose your schedule or work hours, and provide a decent wage. In this economy with budget cuts and an increase in unemployment, having a valuable occupation that presents with multiple benefits is important. An Opportunity Nursing offers numerous opportunities for different types of employment and promotions. Within an organization lie several opportunities for growth and development. A nurse can start out a floor nurse, work their way to a charge nurse, and proceed on to be a nurse manager. Nursing skills can also be transferred into other careers such as: entrepreneur of a healthcare organization, CEO, business, financial planning, human resources, or even politics. Nursing develops many skills and traits that are beneficial. Nurses can handle just about everything. Nursing also allows this author the opportunity to constantly be learning. The trade of nursing is not a stagnant profession. It changes with the times, needs of society, and technology. With so many changes in the healthcare field it is important to stay current on
