As a course of life, people are born, raised, and go to school until the time comes where they need to make a decision about their career. In fact, most careers have one common theme among them---Help or give back to community and society. I for one have chosen a career in nursing to help people and give back to my community. Other than the fact that I want to help people, a career in nursing will expand my horizons, give me career opportunities, and job satisfaction.
After going through a lot of trial and error in my career, I have decided that I want to pursue being a Registered Nurse. Many things have led me to this career choice, including personal and financial gain. I have tried many other occupations and educational programs and none of them have fulfilled me like I believe nursing will. It has taken me a long time to get to this point and I often joke that I finally know what I want to be when I grow up. I will tell you about my journey and what I hope to gain in my future.
I choose nursing as my future career because I enjoy working with others, helping others feel better, and educating people. These three topics are all involved in what nursing is. I believe that nursing is focused on the holistic care of individuals and their families in order to achieve and maintain an optimal level of health, a great quality of life, and comfort. This is done through the promoting healthy living, providing a safe environment, preventing illness, and the caring for the individual and the family.

The nursing profession shares multiple qualities as a whole such as leaders, advocates, educators, administrators and healers. This career not only implements nursing process based interventions, but assists in the restoration and promotional health of individuals.
Education has always been a priority because that is the key that opens many doors into the workforce. Volunterring at St.John was one major key point that impacted my deciscion to pursue a nursing career, more specifically become a registerd nurse and hopefully one day work in a senior retirement center.

A career trajectory is a formalized plan for a successful transition into a career path that an individual has chosen. Likewise, the goal of nursing is to improve health through the advancement of knowledge therefore, improving the safety, effectiveness, and the access for healthcare. In combining these two definitions, a career trajectory in nursing advancement is to allow for clarity of direction and expected outcomes in a career by meeting the goals to advance in the healthcare field. In order to build a successful career as an advanced practitioner an individual must consider the requirements of the position and make strategic decisions in order to facilitate progression towards this goal (Feetham & Doering, 2015).
I was always undecided regarding the career that I wanted to pursue. As I got older and looked at many choices in careers I realized that I wanted to have a career in the medical field. Being a nurse interests me because it requires the study of the human body along with other great opportunities that nurses have in this career. I want to become a nurse because I like being able to help those who are in need.
My interest and fascination in nursing dates back to when I was in the hospital for my grandparents. Despite the fact that I was there as a supportive family member, I found myself watching the nurses in action, assisting both the patient and my family. This was the first time I realized that I wanted to be a nurse, the person who was so dedicated in caring for my grandparents. Ever since that moment in the hospital, I knew nursing would be the career meant for me.
Nursing is a lifelong learning experience and a challenging profession. My inspiration for becoming a nurse comes from an innate desire to help and care for people in their times of need. My experiences during my undergraduate years have helped me to become a qualified applicant for the Hahn School of Nursing and Health Science of University of San Diego.
Considering my prior health history, one would believe that I wanted to become a nurse because of my lifelong health problems. However, this is not the case. Although living with a chronic illness opened my eyes to the healthcare industry, there was another event in my life that determined my chose career path. In the spring of 2014, my grandmother fell and fractured her spine in several places. After a failed surgery, she developed hospital-acquired pneumonia, and spent a few weeks in the hospital. My mother had me come into her room time and time again to ‘say my goodbyes,’ believing that my grandma would not recover from her illness. But, Grandma persevered, defeating the disease and making it back into the real world.
