With all this going on, completing my financial aid became something that was set to the side. I was crippled and was only focused on getting better and not getting kicked out of UCONN.
In the article Our Crazy College Crossroads, Frank Bruni, addresses the topic of rejection involving students who are applying to colleges by using pathos to connect to his readers on the topic. The author appeals to his readers by uprooting the idea of rejection and worth that are commonly felt by students who are rejected from their top school. He does this through the use of metaphor, rhetorical questions and aggressive statements. Bruni attacks many opposing views such as of Malcolm Gladwell by criticizing the science behind his an argument. Bruni also points out the difference between those who get in to Ivy League colleges and those who don’t. He does this by presenting the means that some individuals lack such as financial support,
In that time I was working a full and part time job to help my mother out while she was on disability. In those years I had no idea what I wanted to do and lacked the passion that now drives me. I knew I needed college to be successful but I also knew I was the only one bringing income in for my family. My academics took a backseat for extra shifts and taking care of mother when she was ill. As I left my exam, I remembered that mother from the accident and how I couldn’t of taken care of her if I hadn't taken of myself and emotions. I had failed to do that with my own mother and academics when I started college. I still work a full and part time job as an EMT while pursuing my prereqs for PA school but my passion to become a PA has transformed my lackluster grades into making the dean's
Before I began my program here at University of Phoenix my learning and personal growth was not a major factor. In May 2002, I was faced with a life or death situation. I was attending a private college in New Jersey. I went in for an annually check-up and was informed that I was pregnant. That day changed my life drastically. I was working two jobs and going to school part-time, so I always have been hard-working and a dedicated individual. Learning that I was about to have a child immediately made me become unfocused. In December 2002, I was about to give birth when I broke my lower left
My mother and sister we’re able to find gainful employment and no longer rely on me financially. Of course with my father’s passing I no longer have to travel back and forth. And I’m able to focus on my course work. I’m still employed with my same employer. Now, I have a more understanding upper management team who works with my school schedule and allows me to work part-time. I was also diagnose with attention deficit disorder and I now work with the DRC here at CSN to ensure I have all the accommodations I need to succeed here at CSN. I also utilize the resources here on campus such as the SRC (Science resource center) and the smart think tutoring services on canvas. I’ve also retaken courses to rehabilitate my GPA to prove that I do want to be successful here at
I am applying to the certified nursing program. Since I was little, I have always want to be in the medical field. I grew up in a big family, where my parents were illiterate but worked really hard, and struggled a lot to send me to school, as a first generation, to get educated. The idea of helping each other has always a joy to my heart and of course to those who received the help. Thus, as I get older and older, started to explore the field the more I fall in love with it. My parents could not afford to continue to send me to college. I felt the same pain that they had. I did not stop going I continued and graduated from highschool. Over the years, we moved to Minnesota for a better place. When we got here, I decided to start working as
What is the main thing that students look at before attending a school? Tuition fees. Everyone have a tendency of looking at the tuition fee and setting there life goal if they should spend that much just to attend school. On a Tulsa Community College site, the publisher of “Cost of Attendance” asserts that TCC offers the cheapest fee’s. These are by far the lowest prices to be observed for a high school senior. Tulsa Community College is really doing it’s best to help and support their students. You save a lot of money with these kinds of prices. Now turning
Past- During my tenure at Darton State College (DSC), I begin my freshman year wanting to become a Physical Therapist. I spent two summers before I went to college going to Shreveport, Louisiana to observe one of my mother’s best friends, Charles. Charles had his own practice in Shreveport and was practicum instructor for Louisiana State University’s Physical Therapist program. My goal while at DSC was get admitted into the Physical Therapy Assistant program offered at the college. After two semesters of prerequisites I was successfully admitted into the Physical Therapy Assistant program at DSC. However, after c my completing one semester in the program, I knew Physical Therapy was not my shown field. I wanted to go into the field mainly
During my senior year of high school, my paternal grandmother was very ill with cancer. My paternal grandmother would always talk about how happy she would be if I went to UC Davis for my bachelor's degree. She mentioned my older brother’s dream school as a great school for my passions. With her health declining, I decided to fulfil one of her biggest hope and dreams. My grandmother passed away in the summer of 2016 and I knew she would be able to pass on to the afterlife happy, knowing her grandchildren are going to achieve at their highest potential in the future. Although I am grateful for my own achievements, support from my family and where it has taken me, UC Davis was not truly the place I want to be. I truly wanted to attend a school
I graduated eighth grade and entered our local public high school in September of 2013. I was doing well in my classes and excelling in volleyball. In September of 2014, I was hit in the head with a volleyball by my coach which resulted in a severe concussion. I missed the first semester of school and during that time I realized I was not achieving my goals or preparing for college. My family and I had a lengthy discussion and decided it would be best for me to transfer to Bishop Shanahan. After the switch, I realized I was months behind my classmates and I had to self teach all my classes even though I was still healing from my concussion. Even though I struggled, I am proud that I will graduate from Bishop Shanahan ready for college and for
My transition to Oak Knoll was excellent but arduous. I loved the spiritual community and the close knit class. But, I had a harder time adjusting academically. The rigorous academic classes at Oak Knoll resulted in a drop in my GPA. These grades don’t reflect my work ethic and I enjoy the challenge of a more difficult school. These were enhanced expectations that I couldn’t meet at the time. My lowered GPA resulted from a sickness that extended through my sophomore years. Once I was better, I was able to do better in school, which shows in my previous year grades. These year’s show my true academic potential. I am confident that I will be successful at the college I plan on
In the words of the famous French philosopher Henri Bergson, “To exist is to change, to change is to mature, to mature is to go on creating oneself endlessly.” Some perceive change as difficult to come by; others view it as an opportunity to innovate, reinvent, or simply to think differently. My four years of attendance at White County High School in Sparta, Tennessee, prove the essentiality of intellectual and personal growth.
For the past several years, I’ve worked so hard to put myself in school with the help of my family. Ever since I started NDSU, I maintained two jobs (one full time and one part time) to ensure that I’m able to pay for school fees, rents, bills, and
However, near the beginning of first semester in senior year, my mom was diagnosed with sciatica, which causes her incredible pain and she was not able to sit and walk for too long or even at all. At the same time, our house in Vietnam was confiscated and my grandparents were constantly ill near the end of 2016 so my parents would have to return to Vietnam every once in awhile. I had to take over mom’s catering job since our income was getting unstable. Along with that, I had to take care of all house chores and learn how to drive as my mom wasn’t able to take care of us
