My Openness Definition Essay

A previous leader of mine once told me that a good man learns from his mistakes, but a great man learns from the mistakes of others. I would like to add to that by saying I do believe you should learn from others, but I also think what makes a great man is teaching others about the mistakes you have made. God knows I have made plenty of mistakes in my career and life, but I have learned from each one of those mistakes, and that is what has made me the man I have become today.

I do not pass judgment towards others however I do expect people to show me the same understanding and respect that I show them. I also take in consideration that their life experience may influence them to have biases, perceptions and an attitude towards me. Another one of my strengths is my ability to see people for where they are and not where they should be. I worked in human services for well over 20 years in some form or fashion. I have had exposure with a vast array of different populations that included the mentally challenged, homeless, substance abusers, geriatrics, and people with HIV and AID’s. From the moment we make our debut into the world we are up against everything that life has to offer, good or bad. These trials and tribulations teaches us moral values. Ever since I was born, my mother wanted me to do one favor for her, not make her mistakes. One example of this is not talking to strangers.
