Although life is overbooked and filled with stressors, I can relax and enjoy playing soccer. Wearing the colors and badge of the team I’m on is something I hold with pride, and I work to play well while representing my team. At the same time, I train and work hard to excel and reach higher levels of competitive soccer. Even with the constant ups and downs and quiet car-rides when we lose, my passion for the game still tends to bring me back to the game and take my mind off of all my cares. Many a time I would sit and want to quit, but all the adversity and strong work ethic shapes who I am today. Through all my experiences, soccer is one of my favorite things to do and a passion I fully enjoy. Playing in the high-intensity travel and school games, plus coaching of my little brother’s team all are activities I love. Competing in travel soccer is one of the biggest aspects of enjoying soccer. The development of my skills and the growth of my character all stem from my coaches and teammates. Having played on various teams builds my social skills and teaches me different views on how the game works. This year an exciting fact of travel soccer will be that scouts from colleges and Olympic teams will be measuring our skills at games. The people with whom I play travel soccer are some of my closest friends on and off the field and I wouldn’t be so close to them if it weren’t for soccer. Not only does travel soccer focus on character and social development, it grows me as a
Many people never understand the importance of team sports and activities until they have been a part of one. Being involved in a team demonstrates personal strengths can be used to grow as a team. Being a part of my soccer team, Fox Run, for seven years of my life truly changed every person on the team. Even though our team has split apart due to seniors graduating, the lessons we learned will continue to last forever. From fourth grade to eleventh, the sport through Fox Run has shown me to respect others, create lasting friendships, and persevere through the wins and losses.
Over the years, playing soccer has taught me what it takes to succeed. From months of tough practices, I have gained a hard work ethic. From my coaches and fellow teammates, I have learned to work well with others in a group, as it is necessary to cooperate with teammates on the playing field. But most important, I have also gained self-confidence. If I fail, it doesn't' t matter if they mock or ridicule me; I will simply try again and do it better. I realize that it is necessary to risk failure in order to gain success. The
“I feel like I am very focused towards soccer and just love the game so much that I do not think that I could stop playing. Many people when it comes to soccer, they realize that being a student athlete puts a lot of pressure on you. This can really determine whether you love soccer enough to deal with this pressure or not.” Without a doubt, she is right. Soccer is both physical and mental and it isn’t for the feeble.
For as long as I can remember I have played soccer every fall and spring with a team. However that all came to an abrupt stop in the ninth grade during high school tryouts when I failed to make the list of about thirty-six boys who made either the junior varsity or varsity soccer team. I was in disbelief and questioned myself, “did I still obtain the desire to continue playing the sport I enjoyed for so long?” After ruminating on this issue, I resolved that I wasn’t going to let this disappointment hold me back from playing a high school sport, and I joined track and field. Track and field was an enjoyable experience where I met many new friends, however my passion for soccer had not died, and I was not content with my failure to make
Joining a new club soccer team coupled with almost daily workouts allowed me to improve my skills in the offseason. The feeling of going into tryouts being so prepared allowed a new level of confidence to emerge in myself. With only two starting spots open, working hard from the very start was necessary in order for me to prove myself to coach. After making the team again, I knew giving my best effort couldn’t end here. I showed up to practices with a positive attitude, always ready to work hard. When the preseason scrimmages, long practices, and exhausting fitness checks were over, the feeling of having earned a starting spot was incredibly satisfying. Now, not only am I working hard to keep up my starting spot, but I am hoping my attitude will rub off on everyone and make the team stronger. Afterall, soccer is a team sport; and the possibility of winning a state title in the near future adds to my ambition to perform well for my teammates every time I step on the field.
Soccer is a team sport. This may seem redundant or obvious, but I find it is often forgotten. A team is more than just the group you play some sport together. A team is your support system for life. They help you through your troubles and cheer you on when you need the motivation. Without my team, I would not have come as far as I have. I’ve learned that no matter who you are or where you are in life, you always need a team, just not the usual sense of a team. I struggled my first semester of college, both on the field and in the classroom. Looking back, I realize why – I had no one on my team, my life team. I was trying to do everything myself and failing miserably. By the second semester I swallowed any self perpetuated pride and
In the past there has been tough, challenging games, in which my team and I haven’t played well, and we ended up with a loss. However, these losses I used as learning moments to continue going and not give up. Continuously, during the game of soccer, you run around almost the entire time, and your body can become exhausted. It is at this point that I must persevere to my fullest, and not give up until the final whistle
At the age of 5 I was given my first pair of Velcro-cleats. Back then; it wasn’t about getting an All-Conference Title, or wining a full scholarship to the school of your dreams. It was simply about having fun. By the age of 12, I was being developed and shaped into a player that would have a successful future with soccer, and would hopefully receive scholarships. But, that future for me crumbled by the time I was 16. I don’t know what happened over those 4 years, but I simply lost the joy in playing. It became more of an obligation to go to
Everyone has that certain thing that makes them who they are. That certain thing for me is soccer. It’s my hobby, my biggest interest, and my passion. Soccer isn’t just a sport for me, it’s my life. It has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. I have played the intriguing game of soccer since I was four years old, and I have loved it ever since.
My love for baseball started a long time ago when I was still a little kid, I Must have been six or seven years old. I could not have been younger than this, although I can vividly remember the experience as if it was yesterday. It was actually the very first time that my dad volunteered to take me to a real baseball game, he must have seen my love for baseball due to the fact that I loved playing catch when I was a young boy. From this observation he must have seen a future baseball player. He was also a baseball player, so baseball was not actually new to the family. I had the thought that I might have been a basketball star, however i enjoyed baseball too much and was much to short to be much good at basketball.
When I was nine years old I was first introduced to a new aspect of my life by two beloved family members, my great aunt and uncle. They showed me their passion in life, the game of golf. My Aunt and Uncle have been playing the sport for over 30 years now together, and have learned to love, and learned to be experts at the game. In showing me this passion at their home course, Legend Lake Country Club, I too began to develop a love for the game. It didn’t take long for golf to take over my life. I became obsessed, spending nearly all of my spare time with a club in my hand.
Jackie Robinson once said “Above anything else, I hate to lose.” My obstacle is not getting much playing time during the soccer season. Commitment, determination, and excellence helped me work things out just like Jackie Robinson.
In this memo, I intend to tell what specific skills and knowledge I need to achieve my passion and my goals. I will show what I will need to learn and what courses will teach me skills to work within my passion and goals.
The vast majority of people think football is just a sport. However, to me it has been one of the greatest things I have yet to do. It has given me a surplus of life skills I can carry to my adulthood. The time I have so far spent on the sport is time I would not want back, because of how useful it is to me. Throughout the past couple of years, which I have spent playing the sport, I have gained a love for football. The love is so massive, that I want to pursue a career that affiliates with the sport.
“Basketball is my favorite sport, I like the way they dribble up and down the court” – Kurtis Blow. My love for basketball started when I was very young, fifth grade to be exact. Growing up I always wanted to try out for my school’s basketball team. When I was young I use to always hear stories about my mom playing basketball throughout junior high and high school. Some of which made me want to play and do something that she loved to do. I eventually started loving the sport as much or even more than she did. This story goes way back to the fifth grade when I first tried out for the basketball team at my elementary school.
