In the past few weeks of my pre-internship, I feel as though I am really coming into my own. I have always been a person that has questioned herself, and I have always struggled will just allowing myself to experience and enjoy whatever I am doing. It has been in these past few weeks that I have really started to allow myself to learn yes, but to also just enjoy my experience in my pre-internship. I have truly enjoyed every day that I have been with my class, and my mentor. I have become so much more comfortable with myself being in the classroom that it has really allowed me to not only enjoy the experience but to really engage with the class and learn along with them, on how to be the best educator I can. Being more comfortable with myself has also lead to me being much more included to ask my mentor various questions, and engage during the first-grade PLC meetings. During the first few weeks of being inside the classroom, I spent much of the time sitting back and observing Mary teach as I took notes. This is in stark contrast to what has now occurred these past few weeks; in which I have spent much less time taking notes, and instead have been participating with the class and engaging with them as Mary teaches. I have found this to be very rewarding because not only am I seeing how instruction is being done, but I am being a part of it as well. I can honestly say that I absolutely love my mentor Mary and am truly grateful for her. Mary has been a wonderful resource for
The rooms were inviting, and the students were engaged in learning. I quickly noticed that having a positive, and inviting classroom environment is of upmost importance for successful student learning. As the students walked through the second grade classroom they were greeted with a hug. When the students’ finished their morning work, the chimes signaled the students to line up, and transition to their first class of the day which is Science. This is where I was able to observe both Mrs. Stanford, and Mrs. Taylor
My observation for the spring semester was placed at Pine Richland High School. I was able to watch over John Dolphin’s twelfth grade British literature course. John Dolphin has been teaching at Pine Richland for the past eighteen years. I went to observe his class three times. Two out of three of those visits I was able to be at the school all day long to really get the feel of the way it is like to be at the school all day and seeing the difference of his eight classes. Throughout my time there I learned different strategies on how to keep the students involved, the way that a school of this size is ran, and the difference of how John taught compared to my previous observation teacher.
The purpose of the proposed study is to explore how interns are influenced by the internship in regards to their career choice. The data will be collected from the three different field sites; Higbee and Associates, Legal Aid Society of Orange County and Public Defenders Office of Santa Ana with assessing total of 50-60 interns who will be participating in these three different field sites. Using the previous studies as a guideline I will use the combination of interviews and questionnaires to assess the attitudes of the interns regarding the before and after the internship. After assessing the interns the proposed study will conduct a follow-up study with the interns after six years to see the impact of the internship on the career
I did internship with Novogradac & Company LLP is a national certified public accounting and consulting firm with a major emphasis in the real estate sector. During my internship, I mainly audited property management company regrading cash account, accounts receivable, accounts payable, fixed assets, long term debts, revenue and expense account. Because Financial Report & Analysis I and II courses covered the accounting terms and journal entries in the last summer, I could complete assignments related to audits and journal entries. In addition, I prepared for balance sheets, income statements, statement of partners’ equity for partnership, direct and indirect cash flow statements for each rental property. I delivered required financial statements
Additionally, Paula struggles staying focused and on-task during class instruction. Paula frequently gets lost and distracted with the material in front of her, but Paula makes up for it with her dedication to answer the question correctly. Frequently, Paula observes her peers respond during whole class discussions and also answers some of the questions asked during these discussions. The teacher uses these opportunities as a learning opportunity to highlight the correct answer or guide the students into saying the correct answer. It is great that Paula wants to participate in classroom discussions because she remains fully engaged and frequently offered the opportunity to state his own understandings about the concept or skill he is being taught. Drawing on this observation and the use of intervention work, the teacher can plan future opportunities to allow the students to not only communicate their understandings about the content they are being taught, but to also further drive in the content he is being
Journal one of the Westminster College class EDU 562 Field Experience was related to observation and participation with a first grade classroom, on Monday, January 4, 2016. Upon arrival the class teacher provided instructions to assist in the set up of the classroom January calendar, make a graph of the lunch choices, and to pass out morning work for the students to complete as they arrived in the classroom. At 8:30 a.m. the teacher welcomed most of the students with excitement as they entered the room. She informed the students in detail and repeated the routine and morning arrival instructions. Once everyone arrived, the teacher rang a bell which symbolized it
During both my internship and my pre-internship classroom experience, I have had students with suspected Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD). One was in the process of being diagnosed with Alcohol Related Neurodevelopmental Disorder, the other was suspected to have partial Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. Though both students were quite different, they did share some commonalities. Both had trouble with following directions and trouble with memory. I also had trouble reaching both in the classroom as they needed more individual instruction than I could give them. There were often times I felt like I was making no difference at all, which was devastating as a teacher. These students though the most challenging have made the most lasting impact
Write a brief reflection on the activity (no more than 3 pages). What did you learn about yourself and others? What implications might this have on your own classroom practice?
After a brief interview, I was assigned the position as a mentor. Mentors helps their younger students known as “little buddies” by taking them under their wing. The buddy system is very good way to help build up internal assets in the elementary aged students. For example, one internal category we work on a lot falls under Commitment to Learning. At College Mentors for Kids, the buddy pairs work with each other allowing for growth and knowledge to be gained at almost every activity. My favorite internal asset to see being achieved is asset number 21. This asset is known as Achievement Motivation. When students obtain this asset they start creating ambitious goals and aren’t afraid to work hard to achieve them. Once this asset is gained, the buddy pairs can excel in numerous activities like planning for college or trying to figure out how to move ahead in school. However, the relationships are not only beneficial for the little buddy, but also for the college aged students as well. It has enabled me to develop more leadership skills and a love for helping a diverse group of people.
Below you will find samples of my work, as well as links to my website and resume. I hope everything at your agency is going well and thriving. In that class, the student learns about different teaching methods and how to care for children. As part of the curriculum, we volunteered at Long Elementary as teacher aides. Working with 4th grade students and observing an everyday class room was such an awe-inspiring experience. I had a completely new perspective about teachers. I have so much more respect as before. Teachers put so much time and effort into helping children for their benefits. I knew from the first day I helped with Ms. Williams’ 4th grade class, how much a teacher is a positive influence on children. There is an overwhelming feeling when you help a student with a problem and in return they give you the most heart-warming smile. The experience at Long Elementary helped me make my final decision on whether I wanted to teach elementary or secondary school. As much as I enjoyed helping elementary students, in my heart I knew secondary school was the path God had in store for me.
The marketing internship I was lucky enough to participate in at the University Center has been a very educational and valuable life experience. This internship has taught me many lessons that I can apply to my future career. For clarity purposes of this paper, I have listed my original education objective first and it will be followed by details about the progress of achieving that outcome over the course of the internship.
During my time at Accounting Firm X I learned many lessons that apply not only to accounting and the principles and practices associated with that subject, but also to life as a professional in a real world work setting. The purpose of this essay is to highlight my experiences at Accounting Firm X to shed light upon key learning experiences that can contribute to a holistic educational experience. In this essay I will first describe my goals and expectations. Next, I will go in to detail about my daily routine and how these exercises contributed toward the overall experience. I will then explore the overall lessons learned from my time spent at the firm.
My goals for the start for my internship were simple, but quickly evolved. My goals were to gain experience and build my resume, while bringing the lessons I have learnt in college, and using my skills as an engineer to help the department of public works. Now my goals have become more specific; I would like to learn more about sewer operations, I would like to develop my computing and design skills using the tools available to the Hydraulic section and I would like to mature as an engineering professional. While at the hydraulics section, I have access to programs like MUNSYS, as well as ArcGIS. As an intern, I update and maintain sewer related features on these programs. I would like to learn everything I can to develop my skills as a designer to help me become a better engineer.
Today was the first day of internship. I attended a new hire training secession about 8 hours and heard about the history of Novogradac & Company LLP, met the partners of the firm, completed all new hire paperwork and turned in to HR. In addition, I learned about ProSystem Engagement which company has been using for audit and tax preparation software. At the end of the day, all intern received a tour of office and met their own team members.
