Describe how your personal history, life experiences and cultural identity has shaped your current narrative of what you are today. As an individual, I am shaped by the kind of environment I am exposed to while growing up; either physical or social. As a Nigeria, I am fortunate and privileged to come from a culturally diverse community, when it comes to beliefs, race, and ethnic minorities. An important key is my cultural identity and committing myself to the lifelong practice of self-understanding and comprehending the diverse world around me. As an African, I experience discrimination and racism in school, at my place of work, or just being in a social gathering for fear of rebellion or rejection? No matter how hard I try as a person, I still experience biases; discriminate and prejudice. By finding a daily bias, I believe I am continually working on my self-awareness and biases, and also building my self-esteem. Another reason, I am working on my self-awareness, is to become aware of things that are happening around me and be able to intervene and by extension, take on a leadership role. Being in a subordinate group has negatively affected my lifestyle. Because, dominant groups push their views and opinions on me, and it is hard to express myself because I feel like I am being judged and then shut down. Culture can shape my view of the world.
