I believe that physical education and health give a unique opportunity to the students to contribute to the overall well-being and student’s development. As a teacher I believe that the most important things that I can teach my students is a love to be physically active because i believe that physical ability will affect every aspect of student’s life including their mental health, academic achievement, self-esteem, social competency and ability to function well in any environment. The purpose of physical education and health class is to provide the concepts of health and skill related fitness in order to create the student with continuous physically active that can promote the development of life long movers. It is really important to me to have strong core for what I believe about teaching physical education and health. I believe that the most important things is that the students is physically active and I also believe that the students should have at least one thing or activity that they interested in that they can do for the rest of their lives in order to ensure that love to be physically active has become part of their lifestyle. Therefore, I would like to have a variety of physical activities, sports and fitness method in my curriculum and I would like my students to develop their skills and increase their knowledge of different skills and activities because it can provide a fun and enjoyable of physical activity, as well as build psychomotor and cognitive. I will try to safely provide the students the enjoyment of physical activity, become more confident with their abilities, increase their knowledge of health related fitness, and help them to find things that they love to do to continuous to be physically active. My philosophy of teaching physical education and health is including content knowledge of what I want to …show more content…
What I want the most in my students is that I want every single thing that I teach them will give them an opportunity to do that activity for a longer period of time and everything should be a real lifetime physical activity. Other than teaching and expose student with a various kind of activity, and teaching specific skills and teaching team sports, I also want the content that I used in teaching match up with national standard of teaching physical education and health. I also want to be someone who are able to teach my students basic motor skills and the movement patterns that they need to use in order to perform a various physical activity. In order to encourage the students to participate in daily physical activity I also need to ensure that my students really understand what it means by healthy lifestyle and I want them to take responsibility and show a good social behavior not only in my class but also outside the classroom. It is means a lot to me if the students can really appreciate and value physical education and health. Other than that I also want my students to enjoy of doing physical activity of some sort and I want them love
As a Physical Education teacher of Year 9 and 10 students, it is important to take steps to achieve prolonged participation in sport. The experience that a student has in HPE is likely to determine whether that student continues to participate in sport both at school and once they graduate (Penney, 2006). Wahl-Alexander (2011) found that students’ strongest memories from physical education were from authentic and rich sport experiences resulting from Sport Education (Siedentop & Tannehill, 2006). Sport Education aims to ensure the unit is delivered in a way that mimics an actual sport season, which has many
I think that the kids need to learn how to stay fit. The kids get shortage of exercise during their school day. Therefor the students need to get physical movement during their day. Physical education provides the students with varieties of workouts for the kids. The students love to go to PE because they get to be with their friends and they get learning they need to get about their body. Being mobile is vital to these kids they like active and they would be more alert in class.
Whether a high schooler is in a competitive sport, or an adult is just staying active, physical fitness is essential. Sports can increase life and social skills, help mental issues and exercise can help keep older adults safe and healthy. “You must also give mental and physical fitness a priority” (Otto). Exercise does not specifically have to be in school sports, but most every kind of activity is beneficial, from walking to intense workouts. Staying active is a key to keeping people healthy, whether they are children, teenagers, or older adults. Physical fitness is very important in keeping people healthy and there are many aspects that make fitness and sports important.
The study focuses on how students participate in physical education when it comes to the educator motivating their students. The study shows that supportive teachers provide an environment when they encourage participation through motivation. The results from the study show that if a PE teacher is positively motivating their students, then students will replicate this motivation and have a better approach to lifelong well-being and increased positive behavior. Physical educators who showed positive motivational strategies showed that students were more likely to participate in exercise outside the physical education classroom (Gillison, Ntoumanis, Standage, & Treasure,
I believe that physical activity of any kind is highly valuable for students. The purpose of physical education, is to teach students to understand the importance of a healthy and active lifestyle. My high school offers classes like individual/team sports, and racquet sports, to teach students to combine cognitive thinking skills and physical movement in a fun and inclusive environment. This allows students to put their motor skills to the test, and also improve on their coordination. Students benefit from these classroom experiences, and they can use what they have learned and apply it to their
Many sports and skills require memory and problem-solving skills to be put together. According to the website Brain HQ, “The usage of physical exercise in conjunction with BrainHQ brain training increases your chances of increasing cognitive functions within parameters, including time of exercise and style of exercise” (BrainHQ, 2017). The brain needs exercise to function at its best. When the body gets exercise then the brain becomes happy which will contribute to making you a happy person. One way I would advocate health and physical education in my school would be to have a “Fitness Olympics”. PE classes will train for the “Olympics” and at the very end, they will participate in the “Olympics”. I think this is a great way to motivate students to participate in physical activity every
Per alumni studies, students who took more physical education courses while in college were healthier seven to eleven years later than those who took fewer classes. Through this statistic, it becomes obvious that physical education matters. Staying fit not only affects your health, it also affects your education. In order to learn, we as students at Colorado State University must stay healthy. The two go hand in hand. Professor Cardinal summed it up perfectly by saying “You cannot function optimally unless you are healthy – healthy to learn and healthy to work. If we educate only the mind and neglect the body, we are doing our students a disservice” (Nierenberg,
It is important to note that expected outcomes were established with broad outcomes. These outcomes can be advantageous as it allows flexibility for a physical educator. The curriculum set by the provincial government is important as it stresses physical literacy and health literacy. Physical literacy is defined by the Ministry of Education of Ontario (2015) as “individuals who are physically literate move with competence and confidence in a wide variety of physical activities in multiple environments that benefit the healthy development of the whole person” (p. 7). In lecture, it was stated that “physically literate” means not just focusing on type of content taught in PE but also consider holistic, physical, mental, and emotional development of the physically active child. This means that educators should consider multiple angles of development and consider how their actions will affect each angle in childhood development. As stated in
When it comes to having good exercise habits, meaning everyday for thirty minutes it helps to prevent obesity and other serious illnesses like heart disease, cancer and diabetes (American Heart Association). When is comes to a healthier lifestyle the Physical Education class can help students burn calories, exercise muscles, reduce stress levels, and improve psychological and physical health. After the children have grown up with the idea of working out and eating healthy food there is 30% chance to be healthy and not obese, but if people don’t end up exercising for the sixty minutes daily as a child and are obese there is a 70% chance that you are going to be obese as an adult (Centers for diseases control and prevention). We need to step in and help our schools understand that physical education is a great opportunity for the schoolchildren, to live a healthy live. Researchers have stated that Physical Education in classrooms help students learn the value of taking care of themselves thru proper grooming, healthy eating, and regular exercise. Not only does it help with staying healthy it helps promote academic learning, with the regular exercise it produces a longer attention span during classes allowing a longer concentration and adsorption. (7 Reasons why Physical Education is Important in Schools) When it comes to benefiting from a healthy
Significance of the problem: There are many students who go home from school and have sedentary activities that fill their free time. Adolescents end up spending more time in front of the television or computer which activities lead to increases in snacking and less physical activity which leads to increasing obesity rates (Koukourikos 2013). This cycle can continue throughout life. By introducing students to important concepts in physical fitness and giving these students the opportunity to have success can help these students to understand healthy concepts that will help them for the rest of their life. By getting students physically active in physical education classes, students will be able to break the cycle of inactivity, sedentary activities, and snacking which can lead to obesity.
Physical education is more than just gym or sport. There are multiple benefits to be gained from Physical education. Besides potentially being an easily accessible opportunity to get some exercise and learn new physical skills. The theoretical part of the course teaches adolescents how our bodies work and how to keep them healthy. The course is designed to address the 5 major health risks for children and youth. These components are:
The first reason why Physical education courses should be required is that they can help to reduce obesity issues. It is important because, According to School of Public Health, “Globally, about one in three people get little, if any, physical activity” (Physical Activity). Thus it is important that we get our daily physical activity. To lose weight or to stay at a healthy weight is very beneficial to staying healthy. Exercising regularly is a main key to staying at a constant and healthy weight (Schmidt). Physical activity can be shown through all sports even small things such as walking. Physical education can increase physical activity which makes kids more quick and acrobatic (Promoting Physical Activity as a way of Life). One hour a day is the least amount of activity children should get (Physical Activity). 225 minutes a day per week all year around is recommended for schools to give to middle and high school students. 150 minutes per week of physical activity is
Like any other subject, physical education is vital for students and is definitely essential in a school’s curriculum. A main factor for PE being an essential part of the school’s curriculum is it promotes a healthy lifestyle. The school setting for a child should not be effective by their outside situations, so if a student can’t be physical activity at home he or she should receive that opportunity at school. Students may come from low-income families that makes in hard for students to learn locomotor skills, so it hinders children from developing skills they need. By having physical education in a school’s curriculum is a way for all students to be at equal play fields and it also helps with their social skills not just the physical aspect of PE.
Thesis: There are coexisting links between physical education in a school environment and the rising health concerns of our society.
If the body and the mind are considered as a unity, it would be unwise to ignore the importance of the body. However, that is exactly the case with the modern education system. To prepare their students for tomorrow’s world, many schools and teachers try to develop students’ minds by increasing the required course work and the amount of standardized tests. However, they worsen a student’s body condition by depriving him/her of the time to play and exercise.
