Nursing is an extremely demanding but rewarding career within the medical sector. Child nursing is a unique position to make a difference to the lives of children and their families. Through experiences in life I learnt that I can make a difference in the lives of other people. As a healthcare professional, I will be able to communicate effectively with each individual in such a close and intimate way, that no other career can offer. I am passionate about healthcare and I am looking to pursue a career helping young children with illnesses. Nursing will open the gate to my aspirations. This opportunity has helped me to become equipped with many people skills as well as being able to make decisions quickly in demanding situations. These skills are important in the nursing environment as it will be necessary to use this strength to communicate successfully with other health professionals to determine what level of care is best for a patient. In order to support my knowledge and practical skills in preparation for university I will be taking up work experience at Grays Court Community Hospital for two weeks in January. During my work experience I will have the opportunity to work in either the general rehabilitation or stoke unit where I will be shadowing the medical teams closely. Observe, carry out or assist with some of the duties undertaken by nurses. I am excited to develop my skills and prepare me for what is to come in my future learning in the profession. I also worked at Boots the Chemist and pharmacy which helped me communicate with different age groups that have been excellent for my interpersonal skills.
