Thinking Styles
According to the LSI results, my personal style is Achievement, which is under the header of Constructive. These styles pertain to self-enhancing behaviors in ways of thinking, which determine a person’s level of satisfaction. These styles also reference the ability to work with people effectively, relationship building, and proficiency in the area of accomplishment of tasks. An Achievement Style of thinking pertains to the ability and the desire to achieve personal goals and take on tasks that represent challenges.
Based on my personal thoughts; past and present achievements I must say that I agree with these particular results. The Achievement Style of thinking manifested in my life at a very young age. I am the

This style is characterized by being non-committal, being indecisive, and avoiding conflict, as well as by lying low when things get tough. The trait that describes me the most is the avoidance of conflict. I preferred to find a middle ground where everyone gets what he or she desires. Unfortunately, this does not always work and many times in the past I found myself abandoning ideas and following the pack. Additionally, I use to have a fear of failure and would have anxiety attacks if I made mistakes. There was nothing worse than letting people down that are dependent upon yon to gett the job was complete. These traits lead to becoming a people pleaser and an enabler. This style did work against in my personal and professional life.
Limiting Style.
Seeking approval of others is my limiting style, this result as spot on for me! This results also tie directly into my avoidance trait. Often to gain approval of those in my personal space, I would need to highlight my achievements or be a follower. This was a very immature time in my world that I gladly shed after my second son was born. Growth in this area reached new heights when I shed the military uniform, stopped taking control because I was the oldest, and when I stopped being the proverbial door mat.
Impact on Management My personal styles have a lot to do with my management style and beliefs in being a team player. I have managed many departments in
Based on the results from the Life Styles Inventory exercise that I completed, my primary thinking style is a tie between Humanistic-Encouraging (Constructive) and Conventional (Passive/Defensive). The Humanistic-Encouraging style is sensitive to the needs of others, open to influence, supportive, and constructive. (Human Synergistics, 2003) The Conventional style follows the rules and sets goals.
My educational goal is focused on becoming a school counselor and developing a theoretical orientation that will provide a framework for me to choose and direct therapeutic interventions with students. My theoretical orientation will guide me as I provide resources and services to students, staff and parents. Also, I want to be able to work with students so they are able to identify, understand and appropriately display the feeling they experience.
The personality type most different form mine is the artist. “The artist will do whatever works, whatever gives them a quick, effective payoff, even if they have to bend the rules” (Keirsey, n.d.). I find myself struggling with this personality because I like to play by the rule, not bend them. I like to take time and assess the best way to do
The life styles inventory is a survey of questions that help us to gain an insight into our own personality and what type of behaviors we exert to others as individuals. It helps us to look at the positive and negative qualities of our personalities and ways to improve upon them. A look at my LSI styles complex radiates that my primary thinking style is linked to the avoidance category. The avoidance scale states that I tend to use the strategy of withdrawal by hiding my feelings and being shy to express myself. It also states that as things become more threatening to me the more I tend to avoid those situations. These thinking styles are linked to feelings of denying responsibility for my own
As I read more about my style, I can honestly say that there were few, if any, points that I disagreed with. In summary, I do not get my energy from engaging in large crowds. Analysis by paralysis is a real challenge for me, given I have a knack for the details. I won?t let my feelings get in the way of a decision which can be a relationship inhibitor if I don?t keep an eye on it. I Corinthians 14:40 and Ecclesiastes 3:1 will both maintain a special place in my heart; everything should have a time, place and purpose. My blind spots include my tendency to think that I?m right, which debatably I think I am. I may find myself facilitating ?win-lose? discussions and I tend to be extremely serious most of the time (Personality Type Explained, 1998-2017). My temperament is
After taking the lifestyles inventory interpretation test my primary and secondary personal thinking styles are more apparent to me. I have scored the highest in percentile of Oppositional and Power styles and very closely followed by perfectionist and competitive styles. My percentile scores in these areas were 99% for oppositional, 99% for power, and 95% for competitive. Regarding the primary style, oppositional, it is a very close perception of who I am. Taking the Life Styles Inventory (LSI) survey has really made me realized and confirm many
Upon completion of the LSI I was quite surprised by some of the results. My Primary personal thinking style was self-actualization. My backup personal thinking styles were perfectionist and achievement.
Within the LSI it listed descriptive words of each style and the words that are associated with the achievement style were very descriptive of me. Words such as, ambitious, achieving, enjoys a challenge, learns from mistakes and corrects, and many others were very accurate. I am all of these things and I strive for being the best and doing it better. An example of this is, in my job, there is training involved and the way that it was done prior to me joining the team was not effective, at least not to me and as mentioned by the clients, neither to some of them. So, I took it upon myself to make it better and I came up with my own documents that would assist the client in learning the new material. I have received very good feedback from it and it is now used by everyone on our team. Not only is this achievement style shown in my work habits, but it is also shown in my day to day life. I love to accomplish and to get things done. Whether, it is beating a game or simply accomplishing a task, of say, painting a room in my house. I tend not to let anything stand in my way of achieving something that I have set forth to do. I can completely agree that this style ranked the highest for me in this survey.
My “primary” personal thinking style as shown in my circumplex is The Humanistic-Encouraging Style. This style means that I am “accepting of myself, and accept others for who they are without question or criticism” (Human 2010). Humanistic-Encouraging individuals believe they can “assist others in fulfilling their potential by providing a supportive climate that inspires self-improvement” (Human 2010). I believe that this very accurate summation of myself. This can easily be seen at my previous job as a waiter. I was often asked to train new employees because I was considered sensitive to people 's needs, and was willing to devote energy to counseling and coaching others. I also consider this style accurate about
Next, my backup personal thinking is Approval style, passive/defensive cluster, is about people sets goals that please others, support those with the most authority, agrees with everyone, and reluctantly deals with conflict. I totally agree with this score. According to LSI result, the approval scale measures our need to be accepted by others to increase or sustain our feeling of self-worth. I think dependent and approval styles both are similar to explain me. I like to work many people but I will be a good listener. This might be cause from I don’t like to read since I was young until now. I want to change myself to be a good reader, so, I might have more knowledge to discuss, suggest, and participate with others people.
I have been able to appropriately question and answer my previous assumptions; through positive acts engage in the exploration of new ideas and innovative approaches towards doing or thinking about things; I have been able to promote self-improvement through identifying my strengths and weaknesses and taking a positive step to address them; and finally connecting theory with practice in all the events I found myself and through reflecting found a way to improve myself positively academically, personally and
My primary thinking style is dependent. This style fell into the high range of the LSI Style Circumplex with a 96 percentile score. Dependent thinking style is originates in a need for security and self-protection: dependent people typically feel that they have very little control over their lives. This type of behavior may be long-standing, or due to temporary life changes such as a new job, a promotion, an illness, or the break-up of a close relationship. When dependent behavior occurs as a result of a temporary life change, the feelings of dependency tend to diminish as the particular situation is resolved. I feel that the result for dependent style is that the dependent person tend to feel
My primary style or the style with the highest percentile as shown by the LSI assessment is oppositional. A person with an oppositional style is aggressive and defensive when dealing with people. They ask the hard questions, but sometimes use it to make someone else feel bad. These people make others feel
After reading People Styles at Work and completing the survey, I was able to discovered my behavioral style and learning style. My behavioral style is amiable. Amiable people tend to be easy going, friendly, and caring. They are more concern about others than themselves. Their body language is relax. They tend to remember the little details that concern others. The relationships they have with others are personal. They take their time with decisions and consider the other person that it might affect. They dislike conflict, and respect traditions. I do see myself as amiable. I don't really sweat or stress the small stuff. I'm a caregiver for my grandma and a volunteer coach in running. I do put others before myself, and it's hard
Since my influence is low I learn that I am socially passive and that I like to take little face value which basically means that I don’t accept something just as it appears. Also, my compliance was low so I learn that I resent rules and restrictions, and that I am uninhibited which means that I am able to express my feelings without being restrained. After learning these new things about myself it has not affect my thinking of leadership and my style because I still think that a leader is able to be patient. I am very patient when it comes to things and I am willing to try something new. My own type of style does not affect my thinking of a leadership becomes my type of style is independence and peace, and a leader should be able to lead a group without any fights. Also with independence I am able to get more things done and I would be able to come up with good ideas while listening to what others
