My time spent interning at the UVM hospital pharmacy has helped me grow with the career I want to pursue. Going into the class I was interested in healthcare that would provide a comfortable living for myself. During my job shadow I learned how being a teammate is very important the being a pharmacist. The team consists of doctors, nurses, technicians and the patients. The comradery of each other helps with the job. This is helpful for me because I want to be in a career I am comfortable with. I have been playing multiple team sports since I could walk. It’s part of my life to understand how a team works. The time spent talking to the pharmacists in the chemotherapy wing helped by understand where I want to be in the pharmacy career. Retail is for the person that has social skills and economical skills along with the skills of being organized. Working at a hospital is more “working behind the scenes”. It possesses similar skills but the environment to applying them is different. It has helped me determine that I want to get my MBA throughout sometime in my career. I heard that some people got their MBA as they got their doctor of pharmacy but that is very ambitious. I think that I want to get my doctor of pharmacy and then wherever I am working might be able to pay for my education to get an MBA. I like how there are always a job for pharmacist, also jobs anywhere. That helps because I don’t want to be restricted to a career where I can only work in certain parts of the
Fortunately Wal-Mart offered me a part-time job working as a deli associate. Working in the deli allowed me to interact with customers, though at times some customers were not pleasant. Theses interactions strengthen my customer service skills. Later I decided to take a position closer to home as a bakery associate. This move proved to be a blessing. Fortunately a few months after I moved to bakery, a cashier position opened in the pharmacy. I was blessed to be offered the position. Determined, I worked hard and quickly was moved into the position as a pharmacy technician. Through hard work and determination, I now hold the position as our pharmacy’s lead technician. I enjoy leading my team daily in quality patient care. Each patient, whether compliant or not, encourages me to further my career in pharmacy. Through my experience as a pharmacy technician, a pharmacists not only educates patients on their medication, they also befriend the lonely widow, the cancer patient, the elderly, and more. The pharmacist’s smile brightens the day of the patient whom just received unwanted results at the doctor’s office. The opportunity to change the lives of others inspired me to pursue a Doctor of Pharmacy
I have always loved staying for hours in my mom’s pharmacy. After a long day in my
From there, I began to explore more of what a career in pharmacy would mean and take the steps necessary to pursue my dream. As I reflect on the past and look forward, becoming a Doctor of Pharmacy is still the clear answer to achieving both my immediate and long-term goals. My immediate goal is to work towards additional education to be better equipped to utilize my undergraduate degree. In particular, I have a strong interest in applying my knowledge of biochemistry to the area of pharmacy in order to better understand how different medications work, how to help patients understand their medications, and how to solve problems to better care for patients. Ultimately, through achieving a Doctor of Pharmacy degree, I desire to develop a meaningful career that would allow for life-long learning and impacting lives.

I feel like as humans we tend to make a routine for ourselves and before we know it we cannot go beyond it. The effort to learn something or do something different becomes tiresome. Our lives are conditioned to be a routine; eat, sleep, go to school (college now) and most dreadful of all, learn. It is not come as a surprised as when school is over we come home and toss our book bags anywhere, but, near. We do not want to be reminded of learning (until the next morning). So, for me my life became a sort of routine and I was totally fine with that. I was okay with my typical boring high school life with seeing the same friends and teachers and doing basically the same thing everyday.
Ten years ago I set out on a journey to pursue my lifelong dream of becoming an influential pharmacist and healthcare professional within my community, however, I was unaware of all of the challenges I would be faced in pursuit of my dreams. I began seeking work while I was enrolled in my first semester of college. During my job search, I discovered a job posting for an entry level pharmacy technician at a community retail pharmacy. After reading the job description, I knew that I was on the right track to finding a career that incorporated my love for both chemistry and biology. I began work as a pharmacy technician where I learned the ins and outs of the industry and decided to enroll in the certified pharmacy technician course that was available at my college in hopes of continuing my goal of one day becoming a pharmacist.
Merci Clinic is a small clinic providing free health care services to adults that have limited income and without medical or dental insurance. The staffs of Merci Clinic consists of mostly volunteers. My job as volunteer at the clinic is like a pharmacy assistant. For my future career, I planned to work somewhere in the healthcare industry. As I narrowed my options down, I wanted to do a job that relates to medicine. I was just interested medicines and want to know more about it. I think that a pharmacist will suit this interest best. My ultimate goal is to research and discover medicine that will cure the incurable illness. Besides the point, I feel that volunteering at the clinic as a pharmacy assistant is slight advantage for my career.
I received my Bachelor’s degree in physics in 2009 in Vietnam while I witnessed two deaths of my two 65 years old uncles due to medical related errors. Their unnecessary deaths at that relatively young age struck all my family members. I asked myself whether, if someone in my family had worked in the health care field, it might have been possible to save my uncles’ lives. As a science major student in Vietnam, I felt an urge to apply scientific knowledge to improve the situation. Over time, I came to realize that, in order to make a difference, I would need to gain a deeper background in understanding the mechanisms and the principles behind the field of medicine, a pharmacy major.
The career path that I have chosen for myself is pharmacy technician. I have always wanted some sort of pharmaceutical job, and a pharmacy technician seems like a career that would be do-able and enjoyable for me.
Through my upbringing and exposure to the healthcare profession through parents' careers, I have had the opportunity to witness their commitment and empathy towards their clients, and have grown to appreciate the work that medical professionals do. Pharmacists are ambitious and reliable people that interact and connect with their clients while providing treatment. They make personal sacrifices to ensure the wellbeing of others and I genuinely aspire to make that kind of difference in the lives of those struggling with illnesses while being in a profession that really interests me.
I love this post! I am having a similar experience. I am a caregiver, but recently I got a job as a Pharmacy Technician in training and as I am studying Health Care Management. I realize that some aspect of being a pharmacy technician came across my studies in health care. Not only will I be trained and received a pharmacy technician license through my job, now I will be gaining a license and a college degree. At this point, I am not sure where the two will take me but, I am looking forward to learning and obtaining as much knowledge as I continue to pursue my studies.

Over the past few weeks I have been researching my interests, values, and goals. Throughout this research a lot of things that were already evident to me, were proven for a fact. My interests included researching different aspects of science and data analysis. Analysis has always been a big part of my life because I analyze everything. My values have been proven to be centered toward helping people and being around people. These interests and values are almost equivalent with what my goals in life have been over the past years. For the past few years I have wanted to become some type of pharmacist or physician. In this paper, I have researched what being a pharmacist and physician
The flow of the medical community is dependent on every person employed there. The harmony it creates does not only come from the doctors or nurses, but the janitors, surgeons, receptionists, and even the pharmacists. Each job is necessary in order for the hospitals to function properly; for instance, the doctors diagnose the patient with their illness, prescribe them medication to cure it, and send them to the pharmacist, who then gives them their medication and sends them home. However, some jobs are overlooked more than others and do not receive the proper credit, like the pharmacist. Pharmacists are recognized for dispensing and sorting drugs, but their jobs help educate patients over their prescription and uphold the
