My Philosophy of Education Essay

For me, the decision to become a teacher is more of a way of life than a career. I have always loved school, practicing at being school marm from a young age, and voraciously devouring every shred of education offered me in my career as a student. If it were possible, I would be a student for the rest of my life. And then I still would not have learned enough. As a teacher, I hope to instill this appetite for knowledge in secondary students. They are, after all, the future leaders of the world, and what better place to expand the minds of the generations to come than here in Appalachia where education programs, especially the sciences, which I plan to teach, are poorly funded and children’s dreams

For many individuals, choosing a career is one of the hardest decisions to be faced with. The majority of students in college spend their first year stressing about what they are going to do with the rest of their life. I, fortunately, have known since I was in middle school that I wanted to be an elementary school teacher. As a future teacher I feel that essentialism and progressivism are going to be my unique philosophies of education.

Education entails individual human development in the cognitive, emotional, creative and social areas. All children are entitled to a free education regardless of race, cultural background or handicaps. For education to be an effective part of the students life, the student and teacher must be actively and enthusiastically involved in learning. A teacher needs to be well prepared and organized. They need to know the perspective goals for each student and ways to achieve these goals. Teachers need to work with students to help them grow and develop ways to use their knowledge.

As a class we should all be able to show and share our excitement for reading. Student’s can read in multiple ways like reading aloud, buddy reading, or having students read on their own. This helps to promote and show student’s multiple ways to engage in meaningful reading. Having literature circles is one way I think lets students read books and discuss it with small groups. This gives each student the opportunity to express his or her opinions, ideas, and predictions. I have to provide time for practice and allow students to write about their interest. Showing the students examples of different writing styles and my own writings are good ways to introduce students to writing and show strategies that work when writing. Having a daily journal for students to write in is positive and lets the students be creative. By doing this I can look at student’s journals and respond to their entries. This also lets me evaluate what style the student is using and which ones the student could work on. Incorporating writing in different subjects is a good way to show students that writing goes along with everything you do in everyday life. One way to do this is having students participate in current events that are relevant to current issues around the world and write small summaries on them. This is something I did in sixth grade and to this day I still read about current events. Writing should be a fun way for

I believe that each child is born with a gift. The more educated our children are today, the brighter and richer our culture will be in the future. Education is a necessity; it is not a privilege. My goal as an educator is to help students find their element and harness their skills to the fullest potential. They are the future of our society. Every child is born with the hunger to learn. As an educator, I will make sure that my students are in a safe learning environment. I will teach my students the necessary tools that they will need to learn how to be successful in their lives. Since I was a child I always believed that love and respect are two of the most important things that people will need to learn. I think that with the power of love and respect you can make a big difference in other people's lives.

In order to build a sound foundation for lifelong learning, we need to develop literacy skills so our students will read, write, speak, and view literature and informational text critically, analytically, and comprehensively. Our school goal is to provide differentiated instruction that promotes phonics, fluency, and comprehension skills and strategies to our students to read at or above grade-level to prepare for College and Career. Our student goal is to build a schema of skills and strategies to enhance reading stamina and comprehension that allows all students to learn, problem solve, and interact as age-appropriate members of society.

I am a self-directed, enthusiastic educator with a passionate commitment to student growth, development and learning. I believe that education is a key to success for all students. As a teacher, I hope to motivate students to realize their inner strengths and abilities and to discover what truly inspires them. My aim is to provide a stimulating learning environment that encourages students to trust their own opinions, while creating confidence within themselves to insure that they grow to become intelligent, independent individuals who will become successful leaders of our future

My teaching career has been spent learning how to provide appropriate support, guidance, patience, & understanding, as well as to enhance academic growth & success, for all students. My purpose as a teacher is to enrich and inspire the lives of young students with moderate/intensive needs by providing access to information instead of functioning as the primary source of information for students to flourish. My teaching methods will be to create an environment ripe with opportunities for discovery and exploration which will allow all students to learn at their own pace, generate questions and construct knowledge, while providing hands-on practice of skills in authentic situations as well

As a teacher, I hope to instill solid problem solving skills in my students. I want them to be able to look at the world and all the information thrown at them; assimilate, evaluate, and process that information and, then, make good personal decisions with the results. I also hope to be involved in a career that will offer me professional challenges and rewards while making a positive difference in others lives.

My philosophy of education has evolved from working with students and different educational programs.  In order to have a philosophy on education, the term education should be defined.  Education is a process that involves reasoning and synthesizing new concepts and information.  Education does not take place in confined boundaries.  Education should be a continual growth process.  For the purposes of this essay, the primary focus will be on my philosophy of education within the framework of the school systems.

My personal philosophy of education encompasses the rights and responsibilities of the student, the parents, the teacher and the community. Each of these entities are directly responsible for the successful education of the student.

As a teacher, I hope to accomplish many different things. I would like to develop a good rapport with my students. Helping them as much as possible before school, with math assignments or listening to their problems, and after, by starting a math tutor program or chaperoning a school dance. I want all the students I have in class to achieve some success to help build self-esteem and confidence. I know that seeing an “A” on my assignments or tests makes me feel good. I also want my students to retain most of what they have been taught. I would feel disappointed if students failed to remember what I had tried to teach them. Finally, I would someday like to be recognized as an excellent teacher. I feel that I will be able to do a good

My philosophy of literacy is centered on providing a learning environment rich in authentic literature, instruction that is engaging, fun, and balanced, collaborative, and also involving families in the child’s education. My ultimate goal of literacy instruction is to help children become lifelong readers and writers by providing the skills necessary to comprehend, construct, and make meaning of text, speak, and write. (Torgesen, 2002). According to the National Reading Panel, there are five essential components that must be taught in effective reading programs: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and reading comprehension. (Reading Horizons). According to Konza (2014), reading instruction should be changed to six foundational reading elements, adding oral language and early literacy. Education is the process of learning that can take place anywhere and at any time. I believe that creativity and activity as well as books and lessons are essential to the learning process. As a teacher, I hope to instill in the children a sense of knowledge and self-worth that will remain with them throughout their lives.
