My Piano Research Paper

One of the earliest memories of music is my dad playing piano as we went to sleep. He is a fantastic pianist, and he would play these intricate melodies of the classical composers. As I grew older, I would sit on the piano bench with him, my mom, or older sibling, and I would play on one end of the piano while they were playing. I would pretend I was contributing to the beautiful sound that they were creating.
I started piano lessons when I was eight. Throughout the years, I loved my lessons. One of my close friends also took lessons from the same teacher and we loved to talk about our passion for music. My piano lessons prepared me for judging and recitals. I would do peer judging with my friends to get ready for the piano guild. In the last few years, I have played on my church worship team. I have always loved working with her, and I love the kids. When I heard about music therapy through my sister-in-law, I was astonished! This was exactly what I was searching for. I loved the way music affected people. As I chose the major, various incidences occurred that were impactful. From a basic recital at a retirement center to a volunteering at a camp for people with disabilities, I was able to observe the effect of music on people. At the camp, I was paired with a young girl who was nonverbal. She loved to have me beat on something – the walls, the floor, a table – and then she would sway to the music. It made her so excited. In my church we have a young man with severe Down Syndrome. He is mostly nonverbal. Nevertheless, when we sing in worship, he will sing all the words. It is just unbelievable the doors that music opens. These experiences and more have cemented in my mind to become a music therapist. I investigated different universities and read up on their music therapy programs. However, I observed that Ohio University had one of the best music therapy program, and I
