One of the major issues in our world is racism. Racism affects almost everyone and it is never a positive thing. Racism has been around since the beginning of time. Even if you aren’t racist in any way, we all have been taught to subconsciously have a stereotype for every race. Whether it’s how the dress, act, what they eat, or how they talk, there is some form of stereotypes for everyone. Racism knows know race or gender, sometime in everyone’s life we have experienced racism whether it be silent or loud. A time which I experienced racism I was walking with my dad to this restaurant not far from my house. The people working there were all Hispanic, as that is the majority
Race and ethnicity are the occasionally have been used interchangeably. Race is described as a person’s physical appearance such as skin color, eye color, hair and many other biological traits and characteristics. Race mainly refers to the differences in skin color in the contemporary world. When we say that person is fair skinned or is black we are referring to the race of that person. Ethnicity is the cultural aspect of a an individual or a group such as the nationality of the person, the language they use to communicate, their descendants , the particular region they inhabit for example American, African, African Americans, etc. In a nutshell race is an overview of how you look and ethnicity is the social and cultural aspect of grouping you are born into.
In society, race clearly affects one’s life chances. These are the chances of getting opportunities and gaining experience for progression. The social construction of race is based on privileges and availability of resources. Looking at society and the formation of race in a historical context, whites have always held some sort of delusional belief of a “white-skin privilege.” This advantage grants whites an advantage in society whether one desires it or not. This notion is often commonly referred to as reality.
First, let me offer a definition of ‘passing’ for this paper. Passing is when someone downplays, ignores, and/or denies something about themselves in order to appear to be someone or something else. While the most common type of passing would be racial, there is also religious and sexual orientation passing. For this paper, I will focus on the history of racial passing.
Race has been a controversial topic for many years. Depending on your race it can be a blessing or a misfortune. According, to articles such as “Ten Things Everyone Should Know About Race” or “Race: Is It a Valid Issue?” they all come to the conclusion that race is a social construct because race cannot be determined by genetics or the color of the skin. There is no such thing as subspecies we are all human beings. Yet, for many years’ people of European ancestry (whites) have committed monstrous acts towards people of color. Whites enslaved people of color tearing countless families apart, and taking away liberties that every human being should possess. As the issue of race continues, many laws have been implemented as an attempt to mitigate white supremacy; however, alongside with each successful attempt, white supremacy continues prevailing.

Present day world has made progress in different fields of life but we are still shackled by discrimination and racism which is ongoing cold war prevailing in our society. Various emotional factors leading to racial bias are anger, fear, disgust, repulsion, inhuman behavior and prejudice. Two cognitive factors include confirmation bias and victim blaming. Two social factors include, conformity and unconscious factors like acceptance in the society. Cognitive factors basically deal with a person’s way of perceiving things, attention, language use and thinking about an issue. Confirmation bias involves direct influence or favoring of desire on beliefs. This also favors information that confirms previously existing beliefs and biases. Victim blaming
The force of migration was unique in American history. In the mid 1500s, European mariners started bringing colored Africans to America as slaves. The Africans were brought over by ship where 1 out of every 5 captives died by time the ship got to the Atlantic seacoast. The slaves were chained below docks in very cramped spaces while they were being transported. When they reached America they were auctioned off to owners who used them primarily as plantation workers. Slave owners had the right to harshly punish them and break up families by selling off family members. Slavery was a tough time for African Americans but more so a significant event in the American history. Around the 17th and 18th centuries is when some blacks started
Race is not is biological, race is an idea that we perceive based on physical characteristics. People experience their racial identity at different times in their lives. Describing how I became aware of my own racial identity and how it affected me to be the person I am today and my future is a good eye opener for becoming a future educator. Also my perspective of how my racial identity has changed maybe a slight change but nothing too drastic.

Racial clash is characterized as societal debates identified with changes in ethnic, social, or national connection. Racial clash is the consequence of one overwhelming society's control of varying societies through financial aspects, governmental issues, social approach, and law. In the U.S. adolescent and criminal equity frameworks, the term racial clash can be utilized to allude to oppressive practices by the individuals who work in the adolescent and criminal equity frameworks against minority people (Akers and Sellers, 2004). Late writing growing the racial clash worry to incorporate U.S. strategy, kill as the aftereffect of personality disguises, and dealer buyer connections isn't talked about here (Walker et al., 2004). Rather, this
Races are a way to categories and understand the differences in a people and culture based on physical traits. In the words of Downing (2005:2) “Race has become a social fact: a self evident characteristics of human identity and character. Consequently, it is therefore essential to register explicitly the non scientific basis of race as a social category.” The way race has been represented in the media has had an influence on the interpretation people create on race and the stereotypes that are associated with them. These stereotypes create a sense of who belongs to what race; whether the stereotype is negative or positive. Media has the power to showcase these ideologies to mass audiences, constructing a way of thinking and interpretations on the other. These ideologies of race are important in understanding how racial relations and differences are shown to a mass audience, and how the media can create and emphasis attributes of a race. A critical analysis will be discussed on how racial differences and racial relations are represented and has it changed over time in the media, focusing on one specific medium.
There are many reasons why there have been racial disputes across America throughout time. However, three important reasons include the mental state of the police officers involved in potential threatening events, the social environment in which citizens live in, and America’s history with people of non-European decent. These multiple reasons also lead to a quantity of possible solutions. Some that may work include early interventions in schools and better communication between America’s leaders and its citizens.
Race in the U.S. functions as a means of discrimination and oppression through societal and lawful institutions to perpetuate the hegemonic belief of white supremacy. As stated by Almaguer, ethnic groups in the United States were all racialized differently, but no matter how they were racialized, they were never racialized in a way that would make them equal to white Americans. The only exceptions to this statement are the ethnic groups that have ascended the racial hierarchy into whiteness such as the Irish and the Jews through racialized labor and assimilation. The main reason that they were able to be considered white is because they generally have white skin. As these groups migrated to America and culturally assimilated, it was easy
