I have enjoyed taking this class this semester. Even though I hit a few hiccups along the way I pushed through. I think it will help in my future attempt in community development. Many people can benefit by taking this class and learning more about the health issues within a community. The information can also be carried on and used in many other professions. I have shared many of my learning experiences from this class with family and friends and have passed on a lot of knowledge. I honestly feel taking this class in a classroom would have been more educational to me. The use of visuals and hands-on is a way I like to learn and as a result, I would have retained and understood more in this area. Having an experienced professional in the career already attending the class and sharing would have helped me too. Even though I did take this class online and a lot of topics covered in a short amount of time a lot of good information i took in. It does help that I have experienced on some level of the topics that i read about. There’s always room for more growth while learning more about the topic of health in community development. Things are always changing, growing, and expanding, including new Technology. I have just started the beginning of what all it entails. I think it would be helpful to have learned more about the solution to some of the problems presented. A lot of the topics were interesting to read about, but for some, I felt the need for wanting or needing more on the subject. My values and beliefs haven’t really changed. If anything, it has scared me off a little on how involved with government community development is. I am not a big fan of anything to do with politics. This is tough because I don’t know much about the subject. I guess I will have to become a little more knowledgeable about it now. The understanding of government would be a useful tool even if I end up not pursuing community development. Considering a government class is now on my to-do list. I also didn’t realize how involved community health is. Not as cut and dry that I assumed it would be. Ranging from bullying in a school to the care of the elderly. After reading most chapters I would always think that my life was pretty good
This city of Port Orange is located in Central Florida, in Volusia County. Dr Milton Hawks arrived during what was actually the second wave of settlers to explore what is now known as Port Orange. If I were to describe this course to a friend I would say this class is more than what anyone expects and is extremely eye-opening. It is not like a normal studies class, where it has boring content. It has content that is insightful and allows you to really think about the issues at hand. I would encourage a friend to take it because it is not only a fun class but very informative. I would prepare them for the reality of this class. This class does not just touch the surface of issues we have in society, but it goes much deeper.
At a client’s house I made homemade mince and potatoes, with all the peeling from the carrots and potatoes and put them into the kitchen bin them emptied the kitchen bin into the outside bin.

In the United States we are very fortunate. For the most part we do not live in fear of disease outbreaks from day to day. Our government along with the Centers for Disease Control and Public Health Departments have managed to have adults and children vaccinated and set up recommendations regarding those vaccinations. Despite all that is done our country allows freedoms. One of these freedoms is to not vaccinate your child from communicable diseases due to personal beliefs. With the worlds populations becoming more mobile, that sets your child up for dangerous encounters; because some countries are not as strict on laws regarding vaccinations and some
This paper received all 4s on the grading rubric. I mention this so you can eval the paper appropriately. I hope it helps.
I believe I have become more cynical over the years of being in health care and going through this course has not helped that very much. I often think to myself “Why am I in a customer service oriented job?” The entitlement people expect is mind blowing. However, I also think that my perception of health care is growing positively because of the different class and subjects that have been touched on throughout this course. I have a better understanding of the process it takes to get a law passed in our government, how to outcomes, and how to design a facility floor plan. Health care is changing quickly with the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and the amount of patients with the ability to get medical care. The amount of providers was not increased to help handle to large increase in patients. Patients are struggling to make appointments in a timely fashion because of the increased volume of calls on the call centers or front office staff. Patients are waiting longer periods of time to get an appointment because of the increased volume of patients. Doctors have the ability to not be enrolled as a provider in health care plans and that limits the availability of doctors that are able to treat patients on Medicare and Medicaid.
This assignment will investigate the Community Health Profile for Oldham, a metropolitan borough within Greater Manchester. Oldham has a population of around 224,900 (Oldham Council, 2017). At present, there are several prominent health issues in Oldham, according to Public Health England’s Health Profile (2017), such as: levels of obesity in Year 6 children; under 18 conceptions and children in low income families. The intention of this assignment is to gather further evidence and talk in more detail about one specific health issue in Oldham, and how nurses can promote and improve the health of young individuals in this area.
It is my first time to have this kind of course where everyone can learn and experience interacting with other students of the health care team. I believe this is an important program where a student can have an in-depth understanding of the other professions. It gives them a sense of
A community health assessment is a fundamental instrument of public health practice. Its objective is to depict the health of the community, by presenting information on health standing, community health needs, resources, and epidemiologic and other studies of present local health problems. It seeks to recognize target populations that may be at augmented risk of poor health results and to increase a better understanding of their needs, as well as evaluates the larger community surroundings and how it relate to the health of people. It also identifies those areas where better information is desired, particularly information on health differences amid different subpopulations, quality of health care, and the incidence and severity of disabilities in the population. The Community Health Assessment is the foundation for all local public health development, giving the local health component the instance to recognize and network with key community leaders, businesses and concerned residents about health priorities and concerns. This information shapes the foundation of improving the health status of the community by way of a strategic plan (The Municipal Public Health Services Plan Community Health Assessment Guidance and Format, n.d.).
I was going into the class scared because I have never took a women’s study course before, and it was my first semester at Texas Woman's University. I love this class and it has shown me a lot about women and about my own health. Some of the topic or video we have to watch open my eyes that our health care system is in terrible shape. I did not think that I would get the blogging right away, but I did and now I love it. I love the topics we cove and the book teaches me things that I never image before. This class help me focus on my health and show me the choice I have to make for the future to live a long and successful live.
The Community Health Nurse (CHN) has such a unique role for the population and community they care for and serve. CHN’s treat the entire population and make differences for hundreds of people each day instead of the traditional nursing ratio of 1 to 5 patients per shift. So how does the CHN provide care for such a large population? One method or strategy used to for outreach to the population is health fairs, mobile clinics, free immunization centers, or even a single table for health screenings at a community bizarre or event. These community health fairs are designed by the CHN, with collaboration of outside agencies, to provide specialized services or screenings to achieve maximum impact with potential lifesaving interventions. Ceres Police Department, located in California, held a Bp (Blood Pressure) health fair which offered free screenings of Bp; then, offered interventions for those requiring follow up care. Blood pressure accounts for cerebrovascular disease, ischemic heart disease, and as an antecedent to end-stage renal disease, making this health fair and important health promotion with secondary and tertiary benefits (Lucky, Turner, Hall, LeFavor, and de Werk, 2011). So how does the CHN promote a health fair and what strategies are necessary for community participation? The author will explore the strategies used by the Ceres Police Department for promotion of the health fair and resources for
Life is a complex process of social interactions. Each individual is molded and shaped by their surroundings into an ideal member of society through these interactions. This process of societal evolution on an individual basis is called socialization. Socialization is part of the process of continued culture but over time the culture must change as milestones within a person’s life mean different things as the society’s underpinning belief and attitudes change over time. A revolutionary study that exhibits the evolution of a culture is the Dunedin Multidisciplinary Health and Development Study founded by Dr Phil A. Silva and conducted through the University of Otago. The study identifies key events and milestones within an individual’s lifetime that have helped the study participants become fully-fledged members of New Zealand society. These milestones are fuelled by agents of primary and secondary socialization, which influence how an individual behaves and acts within their lifetime. Over time however it is evident as exhibited by the Dunedin study that these milestones are approached with different attitudes when compared to the previous generation and the generations following.
Which scenario is more suitable for sustaining a healthy community, meeting the needs of the many or the needs of the few? One could reconcile with all for one and one for all. I wonder how often this question haunts the minds of the Omela people. There comes a time in every Omela’s life when one is informed of the dark secret hidden in a small, locked room. Hidden in plain sight is a young, feebile child stripped from his family and freedom, spending treacherous days sitting in a dark, lonely room for the sake of Omela’s happiness and luxuries. The thought of living in a civilization that sacrifices the quality of life for one child to satisfy one’s own pleasure sinks into the pit of my stomach. Some choose to trade in beauty and prosperity for a destiny that is unknown; the knowing strictly belongs to those who have made it out of Omela. I would too choose to leave Omela but not alone and not without a fight. Staying in this town would mean standing amongst a group of people who refuse to stand up for what is good, only to protect the self-centered comfort and vain beauties of life; this is something that I simply will not do.
