In my senior year of high school, I became the student body Vice President and discovered what it means to be an influential leader on campus. This experience exposed me to develop an array of qualities that can be utilized in the role of being resident assistants (RA). I have gained insightful knowledge of the intricate details necessary to be a productive leader who guides in an encouraging and supportive way. A gift that I posses is my ability to organize creative and innovative ways to build camaraderie among the people I serve. This is crucial and beneficial because it ensures for a safe and welcoming environment where everyone feels confident to seek assistance when needed. As a representative of this university and myself, I bring a dedicated intensity about infusing change by vocalizing the wants, needs, and concerns of the students to make my school resilience to an environment conducive to learning.

In an effort to maintain my sanity and high level of achievement, balance is necessary. It is pertinent that I display equal time to my academics, my residents, and personal life. This would be a particularly difficult because I am very detailed oriented and meticulous and it can become extremely time consuming especially, when it comes to planning events. I know that I have to balance out these things in order to be a well-rounded student. In order to accomplish this challenge I must learn to depend on other RAs and RDs and work as a comprehensive team to accomplish this endeavor. If given this opportunity I look forward to utilizing my past experiences in order to make an impactful change in my residents’ college
As a resident assistant, I upheld and am continuing to uphold University Housing’s mission of ensuring affordable, comfortable, secure housing on campus while promoting the academic success and personal growth of the residents. From crisis management to programming for the community, my responsibilities varied to be an enforcer of the policies but also to be a friend to all. I built quality relationships with each of my residents to establish an authentic community among the diverse population. Whether it was simply helping
My passion towards working with students every day has led me to the decision of pursuing a doctoral degree in Student Affairs in Higher Education at Miami University. I have chosen this program to prepare myself for a future role as a professor or a senior level college administrator. This program will allow me to become more proficient within the students’ educational experience and therefore better engage students in active learning.
I am applying to be an RA because I enjoy being a role model and a positive influence on others. I have been in positions before in which I was in charge of multiple people around my age, and I really enjoyed those experiences. I believe that an effective RA has strong leadership, communication, disciplinary, and charismatic skills. An RA is in charge of around twenty other students, it is important that they must be their residents’ friend and a big brother/sister to the residents and by having those skills the residents should feel as if the RA is a big brother/sister. In my opinion, the most important skill is communication. If a resident is struggling with a class, a resident is homesick, or just has any personal problems the RA is probably one of the first people they talk to. Communicating to their residents in those times can mean the world to them; just a simple conversation can help improve a person.
After reading Sonja Ardoin’s (2014) “the strategic guide to shaping your student affairs career” book, I read a variety of important content that has allowed me to reflect not only in my fieldwork position, as an Advising Assistant for the Puente Program, but also my current status as a graduate student in the Educational Counseling program.
Since, arriving at Rowan University I became at-home with Rowan’s diversity and efforts to make an impact on not only its students, but the local residents living in Glassboro too. Early in the Fall semester, I tried-out for the school’s Rugby and Ultimate Frisbee athletic teams, and ran for the Student Government position of Freshmen class Senator. I was trying to find my niche at Rowan and I found it when I joined the Pre-Med, Medlife and Pre-health society clubs. In addition, I ran for another student government position, Senator At-Large. I was elected into student government on November 7th and since then, I have felt like an active member in Rowan’s community. I first learned that Residential Learning and University Housing was looking for students to fill new Residential Assistants positions in a Senate meeting. Additionally, I’m very keen in becoming a Residential Assistant.
I feel like I should make it my duty to empower women on campus with the same, and I believe Alliance for Women's Awareness can help me fulfill that goal. Moreover, in the near future, I would cherish the opportunity to become a Resident Assistant. I believe Resident Assistants are some of the best leaders on campus, therefore; I would love to follow their footsteps in developing leadership skills while constantly interacting with other students. Being a Resident Assistant is one of the best ways to develop and enhance character and leadership
As a DC-CAP College Representative I will advocate on campus centered on the relationship I have established with Housing and Residence Life throughout the years. Currently, I am a Resident Advisor (RA) and a member of Residence Hall Association (RHA) both concerning housing. My role as an RA is to foster the community, provide academic support, being attentive to safety and security of the residents, and to serve as an overall counselor to the residents. Also, as an RA I develop programs that educate and encourage residents to build relationships. Furthermore, as a member of RHA my role is to develop residence hall policies, programs, and be the voice for all residence hall students and address the concerns of all the residents.

Although I am an incoming sophomore at Wilberforce University I believe I meet the criteria and have the skills of being a RA. What is an issue facing your current residential community or the larger Denison community? As a Resident Assistant, how will you work to address this issue? * Being a RA is not only about creating a community for the residents and ensure that they always feel that they are welcome in the building, but also, another important aspect of the position is about confronting negative behaviors, which I feel that sometimes hasn’t been fully addressed in some of the residential building, such as a violation of quiet hours or underage drinking with an open containers. When it comes to such behaviors, it is likely that if the RA doesn’t do anything, the person will repeat that negative behaviors next time and that might affect other residents. Confronting
Resident Assistants at Marist College are extremely important, as they act as role models, mentors, representations of the college itself, and ultimately friends to their residents. They aid in the adjustment of students to their new dorm and provide advice to their peers in all aspects of college life including but not limited to social and academic acclimation. Resident Assistants have numerous tasks to perform daily and much responsibility; the most important being to make sure that all residents are safe and happy. Through RA programs, meetings and nightly rounds, a sense of community is initiated and fostered throughout the year. Being a RA requires complete commitment of time and energy because it sometimes calls for late nights, sparks

I understand how significant it is having a support system because I can easily testify to the numerous individuals who have redirected my path to become who I am today, which I am proud of. I aspire to become known as that individual who is always willing to discuss the struggles, positives or anything you may need. Becoming a Resident Advisor would mean making a difference and as I stated in the preceding questions, I strive for development, influence and impact. Currently, I have experience representing the student body, more specifically the freshman class, with participation in the Student Government Association
Cultivation. This is the first action I would take, cultivating my relationship with my residents by engaging with them while also easing their way through college. It is up to me to be passively active in wanting to
Similar to any leadership position, there is a significant difference between being well-liked and well-respected as a Resident Assistant. Both approaches to leadership reap their own benefits and can make a positive impact on residents and the community as a whole. A friendly personality, good people skills and a focus on collaboration and fun are all qualities that are crucial for a Resident Assistant. These qualities are especially beneficial considering duties such as one-on-one interactions, planning and facilitating events and making residents feel welcome and excited about living at UCF. However, a strong work ethic, willingness to make difficult decisions with the community in mind, the ability to keep a calm demeanor in the face of
