My science fair experiment is a homemade polygraph test. It will measure the sweat responses to different questions. Throughout the experiment I will be asking questions, first testing, then the actual experiment. It will not be as sophisticated as the polygraph tests that the government has, but it still has the same function and purpose. I will be testing Kole Rodriguez for my experiment. The history behind the polygraph machine has gone back to 1902. James McKenzie came up with the inadequate model of the machine. Later in 1921, John Larson a medical student from the University of California invented the modern machine. Larson made a more accurate machine than the first, this machine also recorded on a rotating drum of smoke paper. It recorded physiological responses; it was not as advanced as the 21st century polygraph machine. Through 1925 and 1938 the machine was furthered by Lenonarde Keller, instead of smoke paper he used ink pens to ensure that the results were accurate. In 1938 Keller added another component, which was the galvanic skin resistance, this measures the …show more content…
Add a single strip of Velcro at the end of the foil side; this will make it possible to Velcro the pieces together. At this time there will be an electrode that wraps around a finger. Then comes the coding, this is where the computer program Arduino comes into play. After the breadboard is set up I will attach the electrode to a students finger and ask sample questions that we already know the answer to for example, name, birthday, grade, and so forth. After we make sure that the program is correct I will ask questions that I do not know the answers, they are only allowed to answer with either yes or no. If the program spikes they are not telling the truth and if they are telling the truth the program will only have a slight
This section of the paper will explain in detail about the method and procedures that will be done in the future experiment. Recruitment strategy and criteria will be presented for participants.

Since there is very little research on this topic and it is one that is very controversial and lack support for or against it is a topic that is difficult to research. The hopes of this study is to examine whether or not the use of polygraph testing, when utilized as part of offender-specific evaluation and treatment, resulted in disclosures of new victims among juveniles in an outpatient treatment program. As a therapist in this field and working closely with juveniles in this area I expected participants to disclose a significant higher victim count before and during the polygraph testing than before testing. I hypotheses that this study will reveal more sexual offenses against male victims and family members. The residential treatment facility, Sequel will be the focus of this study, they use the sexual history polygraphs to assure the greatest treatment benefit.
A polygraph is a diagnostic instrument that records physiological changes in a person caused by stress. It relies upon measuring the body's involuntary responses which occur when the subject is consciously being deceptive or untruthful when answering questions. This instrument was first invented in 1921 by John Augustus Larson and ever since law-enforcement agencies have began using them in their hiring processes. In addition, polygraph test are admissible in certain states and in federal court at the discretion of the trial judge. States like California, Arizona, Nevada, Georgia, and Florida allow the tests if everyone stipulates to their use and agrees to admit the results
Upon reading the article that was assigned to me #8, SOME EVIDENCE FOR HEIGHTENED SEXUAL ATTRACTION UNDER CONDITIONS OF HIGH ANXIETY by Donald G. Dutton and Arthur P. Aron, the purpose of the study was to see if the hypothesis was true if there is a male’s substantial body of indirect evidence suggest that sexual attractions occur with increased frequency during states of strong emotion. There were a serious of experiment preform to see whether the evidence collected prove to be true to the hypothesis. The experiment was carefully planned procedure to try to be as accurate as possible by the way the female interviewer approached males that were unaccompanied by a female companion between the ages 18-35. The experiments involve the encounter between a female interviewer and a male while they experience a strong emotion whether its fear or some other type of emotion than by means not experience high emotion based on their location.

The article "Is A Polygraph Test Admissible as Evidence" states, "some polygraph administrators, particularly in law enforcement, are given training on how to induce a false positive response," which implies that even the police have ways to trick the exams ("Is A"). The test can be tricked by the way examiners ask or the way they word questions. Honest people fail because they are more nervous about the real questions that the 'control' questions. There are even websites that teach how to beat the test, for instance "Polygraph FAQ" states, "the key to beating a polygraph exam is 1) to make no damaging admissions and 2) to subtly augment one's physiological responses to the 'control' questions ("Polygraph FAQ"). There are multiple places that you can find ways to pass. Some places even have full out, in person classes on tricking and passing polygraph tests. Someone could be lying through their teeth, but if they can stay calm during the test, they can pass because of the tricks that can be
The purpose of my science fair project is to show that kids are more than just their labels. At the beginning of my project I did research on labels and how they affect students at school and at home. Later on I made a 2 test which one was visual and the other was read out loud. I tested on as much people as I could. After a couple of weeks I analyzed my data and divided what into groups. I did the same tests on every person no matter age or grade. The results I got were very impressive students that were looked as the “bad kids” or “not smart” kids, got the best grades on the test versus the kids that are seen as the smart ones got lower scores. These results show that students are more than the labels given there's is more to us than what
Deception is the action of deceiving someone. Polygraph was first invented, by John Augustus Larson in 1921, in order to obtain this information. This equipment measures blood pressure, breathing, beats per minute and the wat the skin behaves. Questions are to be asked in a series manner.
Jacob, this is a very interesting topic. American Polygraph Association says the accuracy of a polygraph can be over 90 percent. However, polygraph is not fool proof and there are as many as 10% people can ‘fool’ the polygraph and pass the exam. There are several reasons that 10% of people did not pass the polygraph test. Warner argues some of the challenges with polygraph examinations are:
The subject’s respiratory rate, sweat gland activity, and cardiovascular activity are monitored to determine whether or not the subject is being truthful during a polygraph test. Test givers are now able to distinguish between a subject who is lying and one who has test anxiety because subjects with test anxiety show the symptoms of “lying” over many categories of questions, instead of just one. After their release from prison, over 90% of convicted pedophiles are arrested again for sexual assault. Therefore, in order to help prevent pedophilia, Professor Don Grubin of Newcastle University headed a trial in Northumberland, Surrey, that led to encouraging results for using polygraphs as a way to prevent pedophilia. Because of the case in 1993, Daubert v. Merrell Dow Pharmaceuticals, a new set of standards were issued that stated that judges were able to admit polygraph tests, and other scientific evidence, into courts if the theory behind the evidence could be tested, it had been
My Science Fair Demo is called a Fire Syringe. Some of you may have no idea what this fire syringe is. I will tell you as we go further. We will start with the History of Fire, next we will move on to Boyle’s law, then we will slide along to Charles's law, and last but not least, the Fire Syringe itself! Let’s begin with the History of Fire.
Ms. Shier, I strongly agree with you. The polygraph test should not be utilized in the criminal justice system due to its accountability. It is designed to detect the nervous arousal in an individual by analyzing their stress. We are living in a day
The polygraph test is one of the most controversial criminal investigative techniques of all-time. From the initial years of the invention to today, there is not a consensus about the investigative tool. That is why there are many people for and against the administration of polygraph tests. Therefore, in order to develop a clear picture of the polygraph test the history of the test must be established. Although, there are many sources that have well documented concerns about the invention, the polygraph test is still around after almost 80 years.
