It is 9 o’clock in the morning and it’s my sister’s birthday. I need to get ready to eat breakfast at Denny’s. So then I quickly get up from my bed and run to the bathroom so that I could brush my morning breath away. But as soon as I turn on the water faucet, I know right then that something is absolutely wrong. Nothing came out of the faucet. No water. Not a single drop. Now, all I can think about is how much I regret not showering the night before. I cannot even wash my hands or really do anything. I am stuck wondering how I could go about my day without any running water. There’s a party at 2 o’clock and if there are no water before then it would be embarrassing to go with my hair smelling like the food I had from dinner last night. It really is true when people say that you appreciate something more when it’s already gone. During that time, when there was no running water in my apartment building I felt hopeless. It is easy for us to take advantage of things when we have them. But as soon as they are gone, we feel as if it is the end of the world. Needless to say, that day I did feel like it was the end of the world. Today, California is going through a major drought and yet we are still fortunate to have water running through our pipes. But what if this drought continues and then one day we really do not have water to use? There are many ways that we can try to conserve water but one way is through water recycling.
