My Strong Argument Analysis

Through understanding the errors, I made in Writing Assignment #3 (WA #3) I was able to edit and better understand what corrections was needed for Writing Assignment #4 (WA #4) to become a well thought out paper. For WA #3 I received a B+ because of the lack of further development in my argument, which made the voice in the argument, the context behind sources and the thesis weaker.

When I received feedback on my work from both the instructor and my classmates I tried to take all of what was said into account. Considering no person is the same, they will all feel something different when they read the essay, I tried to make it so that it wasn't as direct and had more information within it to explain why I felt my argument was important. This way it is easier for the audience to read as it is written in a way that can hopefully work for everyone in one way or another.

As in the entire book, in the chapter “Analyzing Arguments” the authors write to college students, particularly college freshmen. In this chapter the writers emphasize the importance of critically analyzing arguments provided by different sources and the reasons given by each. The authors wrote this chapter with the objective of explaining and aiding students by providing them with the skills required to accurately scrutinize other’s reasoning. Throughout “Analyzing Arguments” the authors demonstrate their authority and knowledge on the subject being discussed by explaining and simplifying the procedure of analyzing arguments.

“A Modest Proposal” by Jonathan Swift is a satiric piece that, essentially, provides a solution to prevent that the children of the poor become a burden on the parents or the Country of Ireland. If his proposal is put to action, at exactly the age of one, children instead of being a drag will contribute and benefit the public good. Their contributions include, but are not limited to, feeding and clothing thousands of people and, furthermore, preventing abortions and shame (Swift 5). His easy and cheap solution is to fatten up 100,000 poor children and sell them as a culinary delicacy to those who are wealthy and economically established.

Both my tutor at the writing center and my one-on-one peer reviewer mentioned that there is not enough evidence. They said that my proposition and reasons are evident; however, I do not have enough supporting details to convince readers of my argument. I think Kaling has a very strong argument. It is important to be able to express yourself and your thoughts and feeling but, you also need to listen to other people and try to understand their views. There is value in listening because you can learn so much and see things in a new perspective if you listen to someone and what they have to say. I also think there is value in speaking. Speaking out about how you feel about something, being able to express yourself, and feeling worthy of speaking out and not scared to share your opinion. Forall you know, what you have to say could make a difference for the better in someone else's life.

The Ad’s main focus was on two white, attractive women- their lips barely touching, and they are embracing each other. The Ad says “In Canada lesbians are considered hot!
