Narineh Arkilian Dr. Galvan 12/08/16 Mission San Fernando Rey de Espana I visited the San Fernando mission on Nov 29, 2016 .The visit to the mission was one of the best experiences that I encountered. It was an exposure to a lot of details and helped me understand and reconnect with the past historical events and moments that we were studying throughout the semester. The San Fernando mission was the 17th mission founded by father juniper Serra. It was built to fill the gap between the mission San Buenaventura and the mission San Gabriel. We talked a lot about the Indians in the class and you mentioned that they are the silent victims of the history. I went to the mission in search to find answers to some of my questions and to confirm
The Mission Santa Clara is a historical California site that is laid in the center of the Santa Clara University. In 1777, it established and founded by the Franciscan Order. The mission’s purpose was to be the sister mission to Mission Dolores that is in San Francisco. Due to Mexico withdrawing from the Spanish Empire, the King of Spain and his Viceroy, the ones sponsoring the missions, were no longer in power. The Mexican government didn’t have enough resources and was not interested to maintain and upkeep the distant missions, removing the Spanish Franciscans. With little funds, the mission perished slowly until the ownership of the mission was passed over to the Society of Jesus, also called the Jesuits, in 1851. They made Santa Clara college and today, Mission Santa Clara is used as a student chapel and opened to the public.
It was April of 1999. My family was at home. Children were running outside. The asphalt was burning. Cars rolled up to the entrance of the apartments and BANG. I grew up in Stockton, California. Surprisingly, as a minority, I wasn’t really a minority. There were, in fact, a large and diverse population of Asian-Americans. But, Stockton is not the ideal place to live. It was hot and dry, almost to the point of a drought. Stockton was also ranked as the one of the top 5 most dangerous cities in California. So, having a nice and safe family is kind of difficult. Eventually, my family decided to move to Crescent City, California when my dad retired. It was a world of difference. There were trees, plentiful water, and a nice cool temperature. This
The University of San Diego is the most picturesque and interesting school I have ever seen. The amazing campus flows on top of the massive hills and above the amazing city of San Diego. From any building or road on campus, you can get a view unattainable anywhere else in the world. The attribute though, that separates this university from all others, is the history behind it. The rich religious history gives every part of the campus meaning, not found at many other universities in America.
One day in the Sacramento Valley in 1848, there was a group of guys working in the mine as they do every day on this bright cold January day. Billy and all of his friends of 25 years had been working in the mines to hopefully retire earlier than their peers who also have been working for about the same amount. They worked days and nights and in their free time they always spent time with their wives and each other as they were best friends. As they continued to work, there had been talk about finding gold in the rivers around Sacramento Valley. They didn’t know if it was true, but that didn’t stop them from looking. As the days starting getting a little warmer they still had no hope of the mysterious rumors spreading rapidly. Until
Santa Clara University is a medium sized school in Santa Clara with a lot to offer. For short Santa Clara University is called SCU. Santa Clara University can be described as a great school trying to make the world a better place.
Right after graduating, I left the country for the first time and traveled to Isla Mujeres, Mexico. Isla Mujeres is small a tropical island near the coast of Cancun. I dove to the bottom of the sea floor and climbed to the top of massive rocks. The island is about five miles long, so the majority of people there use golf carts to get around. I also pursued my interest in my photography while I was there and captured my whole trip. I spent hours editing the film and ended up with a stunning production. I worked for The Tylor Bailey Band at the Country On The River Music Festival, and gained a lot of experience from the opportunity. I worked my first job as a Sales Associate at Urban Outfitters. I took as many shifts as I could over to the summer
When I attended the CHCI event at Santa Clara, the environment is what influenced my impression of SCU; I fell in love with the school.
Sustainability to me is a way in which something is conserved in order for others to have an experience with it as well. The definition for sustainability in a dictionary is the ability to continue a defined behavior indefinitely. I was raised respecting the environment around me and how to treat it correctly. I recently visited Memorial Park in Loma Mar, California. I love nature and being in it was great, but, there was something odd about my visit. As I approached a tree I have passed hundreds of times I saw and orange rope around it meaning to stay away from that tree. The tree seemed burned a bit and was surrounded by plastic bottles. The air was fresh but the only thing my nose picked up was of the burning coal on the grills. I felt cool air come past me and once again
Additionally the size of Redlands draws me in, I come from a small high school, and I receive a very one on one type of education. The jump to a big school where the teacher won't know me by name has never really appealed to me; however, Redland’s teacher to student ration and size is something that I will be able to adjust to. Prior to my visit I knew Redlands was somewhere I wanted to apply, but once I visited campus I knew Redlands was the right fit for me. I felt at home when I toured the school, the few students who were on campus were extremely nice and inclusive. Not only were the student nice, but the town of Redlands was as well. The town was well kept, and had access to both oceans and mountains. The University of Redlands is a place I can see myself being for the next four years of my life, and maybe even
“How did it get so late so soon? It’s night before it’s afternoon. December is here before it’s June, my goodness how the time has flewn. How did it get so late so soon?” - Dr. Seuss. Senior year goes by a lot faster than someone might think, and now the time has come to choose where I would like to go for the next chapter in my life. I have the choices of attending Illinois Valley Community College, Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, and Southern Illinois University Carbondale. I should attend Southern Illinois University in Carbondale.
CLA has been such a blessing to my life.It has allowed me to grow in my faith. CLA has provided a great education and a safe environment. I wasn't here for all four years, I only was here for sophomore year and senior year. The field trips provided, were amazing and educational. The field trip I enjoyed the most pacific garden mission. I learned so much on that trip. People are still people no matter their level in society. These people have the strongest faith and the hardest life. We met women children and men all in the same situation.
Thank you for a wonderful first half of year. We will be taking our Santa Fe field trip on February 7th from Heights Middle School's gym. We will leave at 5:00 AM and should return about 10:00 PM that night. Please have students have breakfast on hand when they get on the bus. Students should bring a small blanket and a small pillow so they can sleep on the way down and on the way home. Students DO need to dress up with comfortable shoes for the whole day and bring warm outerwear for when we are walking around Old town Santa Fe. This schedule is as follows
Waves crashed on the shore, the next one louder than the last with the wind picking up more and more. Mother Superior warned everyone of her power, sending chills up the spine. It made me long for a sense of warmth, a sense of connection and stability with someone, something. The cloudy sky and rough waters merged together in the distance, signaling hope that maybe there was a peaceful scene to come. It was within myself, also, that I was hoping to come to an inner peace.
First day of studio comes and we are somewhat nervous, because we will be taught by the new professor. He walks in, tells us to go home, pack our bags and get some sleep. Anna raises her hand and promptly states, “Why?”, and “We are finally taking a field trip for studio!” Our professor, Tim, tells us that he will see us bright and early in the morning at the Baton Rouge airport. “That is all, you may leave. Get some rest,” says our professor. We all leaved stunned and a little worried about where will we traveling to tomorrow.
