As a child I regularly listened to the radio broadcasts provided by the conservative Christian organization, Focus on the Family–both the daily broadcast on family issues and the weekly broadcast of the radio drama for children, Adventures in Odyssey.
My understanding of family life and the meaning and content of Christian faith was heavily influenced by these broadcasts. I listened carefully to the dangers of straying beyond the strict confines of conservative Christian morality, and I can still hear the emphatic tone of voice in which Dr. Dobson warned his listeners that the process of falling in love that begins with holding hands will inevitably “end up in bed” if nothing is done to stop it.
Adventures in Odyssey was entertaining and funny, with engaging characters and high quality production and story editing. I enjoyed listening to the adventures and getting to know the characters. It was only later in life that I began to sort out the potentially damaging messages within the drama from the more simple moralistic ideas of parental love and good behavior. I still like to listen at times, for nostalgia’s sake, but I am increasingly concerned by how the blithe and joyful nature of the program masks what frequently amounts to bigotry, ignorance, and intolerance. I am grieved that such a special part of my childhood is turning into something that is little better than a propaganda tool for extreme right-wing Christianity.
Given this observation, perhaps I should not have
The relationship between religion and family in America is not a new study in the field of sociology. America has had religion as one of its most influential institutions ever since its foundation. Religion has been used as a primary base for values, beliefs, morals, and ethics. Religion has even reached the American government and has had an effect on the laws that have become passed or banned, many of these affecting different types of families and the individuals in the family, all over the country. Religion has had a lot of influence on the values and behaviors that the American families have. Religion can determine what role everyone has in their family, including gender roles, and also limit or encourage certain actions and behaviors
Family life Education is to help families become a stronger unit through the proper education. There are so many different thoughts and beliefs pertaining to the family life education program. There have been good and bad beliefs, but the majority have been trying to improve the family and the education system that has been taught.
On Sunday July 19th I went to North Tampa Church of Christ. This church was not my home church location but throughout the summer I started to attend this church on a regular basis. I really loved this church and it became necessary to attend every week. Since I had grown so attached to this church, I did not want to leave to go to a church that spoke a different language. I did, however, listen to the message as though I was someone who did not know what was being said. I focused a lot on body language and hand gestures to figure out exactly what he was saying. The message was on “Living by Faith”, this message was one of the best I had heard at this church and I really enjoyed being there with a different mindset.
71% of Americans identify themselves as Christians (BBC). With nearly three quarters of Christians in America, it is no surprise the profound impact their religious views have on society. The views and beliefs of Christianity have played a tremendous role in influencing marital traditions and values held by the general population.
I still remember the time of my childhood when peace in my family was only a myth! My dad used to come home badly drunk almost every evening, and his entry to our home was the most frustrating and frightening thing I have ever experienced in my childhood. And I was growing under his parenting. However, the situation in my family changed dramatically when my parents decided to convert into Christianity in 1993. I cannot explain how my father changed himself from being a problem of the family to being a solution of the problem in the family, but I know his decision to follow Jesus made this possible.
We were given a list of supporting classes to attend through the journey to better understanding, which Charles shared with his family. Our church helped with finding a place for my father-n-law to leave when it was beginning to be too much for his mother. She could no longer take care of him when everyone else was working. It helped in making a big difference in her health. My father-n-law died last year and again, my church family was right there for my husband and our entire family. To have a supporting church family means a lot when people pray for you, along with you, and the love that they showed through-out the journey. I do not wish for any family to have to see their love one be taken over by a disease that destroys their memory and
For years, arguments of personal beliefs held ground in speech debates, including presidential elections, also when people interact in personal conversation. Family and religion are the building blocks that drive our lives to be better. I have seen people from all walks of life argue or not listen in the concern of others affairs regarding these topics. From the beginning of our education we were taught to have certain guidelines and morals from our parents. Rote memorization of learning, from which repeated speech or exercise became second nature, was how our parent’s knowledge subconsciously transferred down to us. Such is true when regarding one’s beliefs. My idea of beliefs transitioned to a new perspective during my time in elementary
I work at Catholic Charities, and we do not support same-sex adoptions here. I can emphasize with couples when religion is a barrier to an already difficult situation. My agency takes a pro-life choice and does not counsel persons on planned parenthood. The traditional family is supported by the Catholic Church beliefs. The church only recognizes the first marriage and does not believe in divorce. I feel my job is limited by religious barriers. I have client’s I refer out, and hope they can receives the services they desire.
I had what some would consider an extremely unusual childhood. When most parents start taking their children to Sunday School, my parents decided to start my Science Fiction education. I watched my first Star Trek when I was four, and my father read my first Heinlein, Rocket Ship Galileo, to me later that year. Instead of the Ten Commandments, I had The Prime Directive (commonly known in my house as the Prime Suggestion, but that’s a different story). I learned many of the lessons the other kindergarteners learned, but I learned them better, as I have never quite been able to wrap my head around the fact that people care who marries who, as I grew up with multi-species couples. The only influence religion had on my early childhood was from
Throughout my entire life, it seemed as though everything was centered around my family’s collective core morals and an unwritten ethic code instilled in me as I grew up. My family’s principles remain a major part of my life, especially as I begin the transition to independence in the adult world. Considering my family has always been one of the most important things to me, I have always placed value on what I have learned from them and where we come from. My big, small-town family gave me a sense of what it means to help others, how we can accomplish this goal, and for what reasons. Being raised in a close-knit, Christian family with strong values will assist me in understanding how to be successful in terms of compassion and
Both religion and family are essential parts in the running of any society. Religion is the belief in a supernatural authority which unites a group of people. Normally, a family consist of people who share the same bloodline; however, it may also consist of a group of people who are legally bonded such as adopted children. In whatever type of the family, strong and healthy bonds are necessary. Among other factors, religion plays a significant role in strengthening the family bonds. In many religions of the world, family comes first. For instance, in the Bible, God created man and woman so that they could reproduce and fill the earth. In addition, God gave man power over all other living things. This shows how important people are to God. Notably, various religions have different values and expectations on families. For instance, Islam allows polygamy while Christianity allows monogamy. The relationship between family and religion can be evaluated using the functionalism perspective of sociology. This essay explains the functionalism perspective and analyses the interactions between religion and family.
Here at Colorado Christian University, we are all self-proclaimed Christians, but it seems that everyone believes something different whether it be related to the age of the Earth, if the Bible is infallible or not, or whether things like alcohol are sinful or not. This is no different when we talk about the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. In the next several pages, I will outline my beliefs about the Work of Christ, the Person of Christ, the Holy Spirit, and the Trinity, as well as back my beliefs on these things with Scripture and other theological writings.
One of the foundations of the Christian faith is the belief that God is actively working in His creation. God did not create the world and leave it to its own fate. Instead, God is still actively involved in every part of His creation today. This belief is crucial for the Christian scientists in today’s world. Ones who study cells and molecules can discover how astounding and detailed God, the Creator, is with this belief in mind.
If we talk about Christianity point of view Holy bible lays down “Wives submit yourself into your own husbands as unto the Lord.”
