Introduction In this reflection, I will discuss four topics we covered in class this semester than influenced the way I think about education. These subjects include backwards design, higher level learning, grading and feedback, and Socratic seminars. All of these topics have become incorporated into my vision for my future career. I want to spend the following paragraphs discussing what they are, why they are important to me, and how I will apply them.
Start with the End in Mind The first concept that impacted me this year was from the week 2 PowerPoint “Start with the End in Mind.” Essentially, it focuses on the idea that before any other part of the lesson is designed, the educator must ask what he or she wants the students to

Higher Level Learning According to an article written by L. Dee Fink on the subject, higher level learning includes the baseline of knowledge, but also learning how to learn and causing positive change within the life of the learner. In the class PowerPoint “Teaching for Higher Level Learning” we covered Bloom’s Taxonomy and Depth of Knowledge, which are two similar tools used when teachers want to implement higher level learning in their classrooms. Bloom’s Taxonomy consists of six differing levels of cognition from knowledge to evaluation. We learned that most classroom tasks stay at the knowledge or comprehension level and rarely push students further. DOK is similar in that there are four categories of cognition is describes. We used Depth of Knowledge to practice writing good, thought-provoking questions. Higher level learning is important to me because I was fortunate enough to experience it in my middle school and high school education. However, from what I have heard, most people do not have the same story. Many history teachers, according to the testimony of dozens of friends, do not challenge their students at all, instead having them memorize dates and complete worksheets. I do not want to be that kind of teacher. I want my students to feel tested and propelled into growth. This is why I will utilize higher level learning. I will be able to apply higher level learning by making sure all classroom happenings are appropriately

In the article, “Deeper Learning: Moving Students Beyond Memorization,” by Luke Towler, is an article explain how memorizing is not the best way to process information when you are learning. Experts think that the best way to learn is to apply school knowledge and use this information to solve real-world problems. They call this process, “deeper learning.” Researchers revealed that students, who attend schools that teach deeper learning, are likely to graduate high school with a richer education than those who go to non-network schools. Linda Darling-Hammond says, “These students tend to learn more deeply and they tend to perform better, not only on traditional achievement tests but also on assessments of more complex understanding.”
When it comes to the topic of education, most of us will readily agree that as students, we need to be dedicated learners. Where this agreement usually ends, however, is on the question of how we should be educated. Some are convinced that we need to stick with what is currently in place. From this perspective, it is completely unnecessary to do something different if the method being used works. However, others maintain that we need to change. According to this view, people need to move away from what we are comfortable and familiar with in order to be better students. In sum, then, the issue is whether we should keep how our education works the same or not.
The author of this response has been asked to pen a self-reflective essay that addresses five main points. In order to provide quality care, nurses must first be educated about the aspects of quality nursing. Nurse educators are responsible for teaching future nurses of their scope of practice and how to serve the public through proper medical interventions. Although all nurses serve as educators to their patients, nursing educators in academics have a unique role in teaching the future of the nursing field. This is accomplished by staying informed on current nursing advancements and evidence based practices. Because nurses constantly educate their patients, becoming a nursing educator seems like a natural transition from clinical nurse to instructor. This paper will examine the historical role, qualifications, education and certifications
In 2012, a 14-year old girl was shot in the head on a bus ride home from school in Pakistan. She was targeted by the Taliban because she believed in the rights of education for women and was not afraid to take a stand against this oppressive regime. Malala Yousafzai at 17-years old is a Nobel Peace Prize winner. Since then, Malala has opened schools in Lebanon, has a charity called The Malala Fund, and continues to speak to world leaders to fund the right for education. Ultimately, my personal career goal is to help elucidate the molecular pathways of neurological disorders, while also being able to apply my knowledge directly to patients. Thus, a course plan within the Molecular Basis of Medicine (MBM) foundational area, combined with a Neuroscience, Behavior, and Cognition application, would be perfectly tailored to my interests. Though I have experience in bench work at the Champagne Lab, and bedside work at NYPH Weill/Cornell and TCC Health Care respectively, I am truly interested in the bench-to-bedside approach taught extensively throughout the MBM program. The Stanford Neurosciences Institute would provide a myriad of exciting opportunities for pursuing further research into the molecular biology and

Throughout the last few weeks, I have been doing the time management monitor. This project has opened my eyes to how much time I am not using that I could be utilizing for planning my career. My major goals for this semester are to decide on a major and use this first semester to find a day to day rhythm. I also want to use this semester to find new friends and adjust to life in college. Doing this time monitor, I have realized that I have spent more time making friends and adjusting than I have done homework. I also have found out that I have not done much to help me decide what to do in my future.
From the time I was five, I have studied a large range of music including piano, clarinet, viola, cello, and voice. Generations of the Seaver family have always been first chair in the orchestra or the strongest vocal in the chamber choir. From an early age, my mother pressed my three siblings and I to surround ourselves with music but I struggled to get along with every instrument she put in my hands. My clarinet always squawked and when I pressed my bow to my viola, it sounded more like it was screaming than singing.
