My Wisconsin Experience

My American ExperienceAmerica is home to millions of people. I have lived my life in America my entire sixteen years on this world, and have cherished every second of it. Through these sixteen years, I have been able to establish my own thoughts and feelings on what the American experience is about to me. I may have my own opinions, though others may disagree with them. I cannot live the life of the millions of people living in America, nor can I explain the American experience on their behalf through their experiences. My own interpretation is a product all the experiences I have gone through growing up in America. As a child I was in the process of developing my own character and learning new things. I grew up with the impression that You can do anything you want if you put your mind to it. That is what America is all about the land of dreams and opportunity. If I wanted to become a doctor, I could become one. There s nothing stopping me from becoming president or anything else I want to be. But you don t become president like that. It takes hard work and determination to accomplish anything, hence the phrase if you put your mind to it. The path to success may not be an easy one, but only through hard work and education can it be obtained. Some say we are slaves to society forced to spend our worthless lives working nonstop. Perhaps one can make that case when referring to a country such as Russia, where the people work for the success of the country with a communist

Though I’m not sure if they are fully considered a “food forest”, I know that they will give you a portion of the harvest from time-to-time if you volunteer with them regularly or happen to be there on that day. I have yet to make my way to the Gardens to volunteer, but I plan on doing so on Monday afternoons once the weather cools down a bit. There are many positive aspects of having a sort of food forest on a college campus, one of them being that local, healthy food can be hard to come by. It also provides a way for the students to make connection with people on something they love, and even possibly end up networking with some. With that being said, having a food forest on campus has its negative aspects too. For example; a lot of college students have a tendency to not think very health-minded and are not willing to put in the work to receive the crops. College students also have a lot on their plates, so there might not be a consistent amount of volunteers, or even very few volunteers at some

Astonishing, stunning, remarkable, spectacular, phenomenal: All words to describe my experience attending agriculture and biology related activities on college campus this past month. When I was assigned this assignment, I thought there would only be a few events to choose from, but after looking at the potential activities I could attend, I was awestruck by how many events that were held on campus. Little did I know that there so many opportunities for me to get involved in college. This engagement assignment helped me become more comfortable on campus and more familiarized with what is happening on campus. Three events I would like to highlight in my experience are the Ag. and Bio Ice Cream Social, SDSU

Upon arriving at the Gibson farmers market I was greeted with familiar faces both from the classroom and out of the classroom. One of the employees at the farmers market happened to be a former FFA colleague of mine, who was also a student at Fresno State. He introduced me to the items most appealing to the younger peoples. The wine cellar area within the Gibson Farmers Market was amazing to me on the account that it is the only place in the world where all of their Fresno State wines are located for purchase.

Every Sunday morning for the past 38 years, at exactly 8 am, the Encino farmer’s market, located on Victory Blvd. comes to life. The smell of freshly baked breads and pies wafts around the area and mixes with the scent of fresh fruits and berries, creating an aroma that brings along with it memories of large family dinners and a sense of community. It is a small farmer’s market, but it doesn’t lack the chaos one would always associate a farmer’s market with, as soon as the doors open, it fills to the brim with the hustle and bustle of elderly couples and families young and old, and vendors welcoming them to their stands with friendly hellos and recommendations of seasonal products that just came in stock. Today was a winner of a spring day at the Jasper Farmers Market at Lee Newton Park. Every Saturday with a few exceptions, bright and early at 7:30 our farmers’ market opens with devoted vendors selling a variety of goods, plants, bakery items, crafts, decor, eggs and fresh veggies. And fresh coffee! Blankets, hair bows, jewelry, clocks, wine stoppers and wooden toys are just a few of the many choices among the creative crowd. Spring greens for the fresh salads you crave, eggs for the soufflés and quiches or everyday cooking are abundant, and breads! Plus, many choices of baked items to choose from. Sorbets and tamales, too! You must come and see for yourself all the treasures to be found.

Me and my family moved to Wisconsin when I was nine years old since I was so young at the time I really didn't understand what the purpose of moving from California to Wisconsin was. It wasn't until later on when I was around the age of 12 that I found out that we moved here because financially it was more reasonable. Moving here allowed my mother to become a homeowner, something she wouldn’t have been able to do in California because of the high prices. I guess you can say that at the age of nine I really didn’t have a purpose to move here apart from the fact that my mom was moving. However, over the years I realized that moving to Wisconsin was the right thing to do.

Central Wisconsin Center (CWC) is an organization established in 1953 by the State of Wisconsin to provide residential and short-term treatment to people with intellectual disabilities. It is one of the three facilities used by the Wisconsin Department of Health Services to take care of disabled people in the state. The organization was recognized by the state’s legislature in 1953 and then opened to the public in 1959. Today CWC have over eight hundred employees with a yearly budget over fifty million dollars and occupied 100-acre campus located at 317 Knutson Drive, Madison, Wisconsin.
