Every day consists of writing, whether it is informal or formal. Writing comes in different forms including, emails, essays, text messages, and even note taking in class. I have gathered materials and assignments in my major to analyze what kind of writing is required and how it should be executed. What I discovered was surprising, but almost every piece of research revealed that writing is not incredibly important in my field of study. In one of my pieces of research titles “writing assignment”, I documented one day of writing which I performed. On this particular day, I went to my biology class and the only writing I preformed was in the form of note taking. Taking notes in this class is not required but suggested, and there is no guideline
All throughout my years of schooling, I’ve had just about, one paper that was about one page long, due every year. My papers never had to be more than one page in length. Therefore, I did not have to do much writing or do many essays. Surely not enough to remember any of the assignments. Writing has never been something I enjoyed doing, so I never bothered to many any memories of my writing experiences. I did not think it was necessary to remember any of them since I only had to do them to get a grade. The only writing experience I remember was the first assignment I had in this English 100 class about a writing experience. All week long, I sat there thinking about what to write about, but nothing came to mind as a topic. Then, one thing came to mind, but it was so very vague, I could not write the length that was needed for the assignment. I could only think of a few sentences to write for it. After sitting for a few moments longer, I thought, how about I write about how difficult it was for me to write this essay before it was due.
"The most difficult and complicated part of the writing process it the beginning." -A B Yehoshua. I have been through a multitude of writing assignments and projects throughout my college career, and I can say that beginning them has always been the hardest thing for me to do. There are many that I don’t remember but, those that I do, are the ones that have influenced my writing technique the most. Some assignments and projects have influenced my writing while working through them, while others I learned from mistakes by eating the dust of a bad grade due to grammatical errors, or poor planning. Both of which, have shaped me to be the writer I am today. There are many weaknesses that I have overcome in the writing process through major assignments,
Throughout all four years of high school, the “meaning” of a race and all its components were described to me in great detail. My coach found that a three mile cross country race could apply to almost anything. He would analyze races by separating each mile. The first mile is run with one’s legs, the second with their brain, and the third with their heart. I never fully understood how the versatility of the science of a race. Immediately when thinking about how to explain my writing process and how I could reflect on this past semester while also encompassing the theme of love, the three mile cross country race that had been engrained in my brain came to mind.
Over the past four months, I have made great strides as a writer. The area where I have seen the most growth is in my use of the writing process. Prior to my enrollment in this course, I would sit down and write all my papers in one sitting. This class has taught me how to lay out a plan for my papers. I have learned how to effectively brainstorm/research, draft, and revise my writings before I complete them. Also I have learned to not just stop there, instead I am now going back and reflecting on my work after I complete it. This allows me to identify where I prospered and also where my downfalls may have been. With this information, I am able to apply this to future writings of mine; lessons that will stay with me forever.
The first semester of W131 has given me the chance to become more familiar with my strengths and weaknesses in my writing process. One of the main things I contribute to my progression in writing is practice and revision. W131 has given me the resources I need to become an effective writer by pushing me to think deeper about what writing process works best for me. To find what writing process works for me, I have experimented with different writing techniques along with alternative reading techniques to allow me to retain more detail. Although I improved some skills during the first half of W131, I still have many skills that could be critiqued to enhance my writing process and essays.
Those that write always have a writing process whether they know it or not. A writing process can be defined by the way an individual gears up for the project at hand. It can be as simple as finding a favorite chair to write in or the act of planning out the writing beforehand. My own personal writing process varies from task to task with a few constants. I generally start my writing process by first reconciling my project; figuring out the best way to express the needs of the work. I do not write down notes or an outline in regards to the project mostly relying on winging it so as not to get hung up on sticking to the outline. I will my best to knock out large chunks of the project before taking any breaks unless I hit a wall, and
In this course, I learned a multitude of techniques to improve my essay and how to keep the readers attention. Furthermore, I learned how to incorporate academic journals and online articles to help make my essay stronger. Additionally, I learned that free-writing can help me start an essay and provides my brain a starting point for writing an essay. Free-writing allows me to write down as much information as possible so that I can help myself start off an essay with some sort of structure. The process in which my essay is created is to start free-writing, complete a rough draft, revise that draft with the help of my peers, and lastly, write my final draft.
Well... This is supposed to be a story about myself of my development as a reader and writer. I’m not quite sure how to start an essay like this, so im just just gonna go for it. when i was a younger man around the age of 5 my mother and grandmother (nana) taught me to remember letters and words and what i would call my first “literacy” teachers. Now when i hear the word “literacy” i do not think of the typical reading and writing taught in schools though. i was never properly told the definition of the word i sorta made mine own. For example I see a well story based movie literacy, because of thought and writing to put into such films, and the amount of emotion that can be portrayed. Back to my first lessons in literacy, my family set my expectations high. Very high.
Writing is labor. It is a skill that requires a person to become monomaniac, as well as fastidious to the craft. Writing takes empathy and demands long periods of time to be alone with one’s self. The writing process consists of prewriting, rough draft, color coding, clocking sheet, and the final paper. Writing down anything that comes to mind when thinking of the topic, and formulating it into a paper that makes sense is prewriting and the rough draft, which is the first part of the process. Since it is just the rough draft it does not have to be perfect. Color coding is when printing out the rough draft happens and highlighting every other sentence and other things based on the rules for that paper. Making corrections to other people's papers is what the clocking sheet is. The clocking sheet and color coding has helped me identify the errors in my papers. I still have troubles with some concepts of writing, like sentence structure and comma usage.

As English is my second language, I have always found it very difficult to express myself on paper. Writing habits that work best for me is to sit down in a quiet room with paper and pen. Brainstorming would be my first choice; I think about everything that comes to mind in regard to a specific subject and jot it down. In addition, I do internet research on topics that are unknown, so I combine the things that I know with my research. Next, I begin my first draft; usually it takes a few times to rewrite until it sounds good. In addition, I think about my audience, my word choice and I also like to use the 5 W’s to keep me on track of my writing. Writing takes time for me so I always want to make sure when I start I complete
Written communication refers to an action of delivering information through written words. Furthermore, in education sector, writing has an important role to fulfill one of the learners’ English skills. Students are expected to be able to write good writing. This research finding is also supported by Hansen 's (2002) which states, “Academicians and business people view writing skill as crucial, yet increasing numbers of these professionals note a steady attrition in the writing abilities of graduates.” Based on those statements, students are expected to be a good writer because writing is not only used in school, but also it has an important role to determine their future. In discussing the importance of writing to learning, Suleiman (2000) asserts that “writing is a central element of language, any reading and language arts program must consider the multidimensional nature of writing in instructional practices, assessment procedures, and language development.” Moreover, Myles (2002) states that through experience, writing skill must be practiced and learned because it is not a naturally acquired skill – learned in formal instructional settings. Accordingly, writing is taught in schools.
