As students preparing for a successful career field we will all find a time when we need to effectively communicate on paper. Some of the challenges that I face in my writing is developing my thoughts into organized, presentable sentences. One thing that I am able to do well is having the creativity to generate the thought process without much planning. I do not have much need for brainstorming or outlines in order to get ideas flowing. This has its detriment to my writing, however. Since my ideas flow so easily, I have had a tenancy to miss some of the key points of assignment outlines. To mitigate this, in the future, I will need to ensure I make adequate time available to prepare for assignments. In the past, while working on my first degree, I had not needed much preparation time, owing to the fact that it was a general studies degree with only 100 level classes. Now, as I prepare to take more advanced courses, I will need to develop my planning process in order to ensure that I am operating within the intent of the established criteria. I have become, in my daily work duties, used to the “Army Style” of …show more content…
In this form of writing, I am free to express my unique and individual ideas in a format ranging from simple research to creative writing. Getting ideas to go straight from my brain to paper make it much easier to accomplish tasks. In order to be successful in writing at a college level, I need abandon both this way of thought and the Army Style of writing. As I progress through my education, I will need to adopt higher levels of planning and thought to ensure that the information that I convey is accurate, acceptable, understandable, and most importantly, professional. There will be far fewer opportunities for me to rely on my strong aptitude in technical writing. I will need to spend more time brainstorming, developing outlines, preparing multiple drafts, and submitting my work for review by my
Over time, I have found that peer editing, outlining, color coding and coordinating my sources to an outline to be very helpful. Throughout college many professors have encouraged the use of the writing center; however, it is not that easy for all students. Some, like myself, work full-time jobs and may also have a weekend job making the time we are able to get help with our assignments limited. I have made use of the writing center with past assignments and have experienced that it can provide the most help in developing quality work as well as establishing a better writing technique. Consequently, in the past with my work schedule, I needed to get creative and create my own scheme of a writing center. Asking family, friends, and past teachers to edit and review my papers has been helpful to my writing process. With their comments, reviews, and edits, I have been able to build new ideas and shape a better foundation for my writing technique to use on future assignments or projects. In the past, I have felt that outlining was outdated and elementary, little did I know that it was a key point in the writing process to stay organized, avoid redundancies and over analyzing a prompt. An outline helps me stay focused and not become intimidated by the prompt. It allows me to dissect the prompt into questions or points. This improves my writing technique and reduces the
Throughout all four years of high school, the “meaning” of a race and all its components were described to me in great detail. My coach found that a three mile cross country race could apply to almost anything. He would analyze races by separating each mile. The first mile is run with one’s legs, the second with their brain, and the third with their heart. I never fully understood how the versatility of the science of a race. Immediately when thinking about how to explain my writing process and how I could reflect on this past semester while also encompassing the theme of love, the three mile cross country race that had been engrained in my brain came to mind.
My approach, and Chapter 2’s ideas, for writing a draft are somewhat similar in many aspects. Prior to beginning my draft, I organize myself and determine what has to completed based upon the specifics provided to me in my assignment. I analyze my subject and purpose for my writing. I take into consideration who the readers will be and how I can clearly communicate to them my view points, with the intention of bettering their understanding. I intensely brainstorm and quickly begin writing down random thoughts and ideas to develop the content for my draft. I outline my introduction, content of writings and my conclusion based upon all that I created thus far. I would say my primary strength in writing is sentence structure. I find that most
Walking into the college writing room for the first time, I was hopeful of learning new skills and more about myself as a writer. Not only did I learn new skills, but overall a better understanding of how I write and how I edit. I still have my disorganizing writing style of a chunk writer, but now I know that having a simple outline can cut out hours of trying to paste the paper back together, trying to make sure it flows correctly. Instead of the old way of writing, I found a better way that still works for me. It’s much more efficient, especially of the deadlines that come faster than they seem. Writing in a classroom never worked well for me, but College Writing allowed me to experiment with what environment worked the best. I found out writing in low-lit library early in the morning with my headphones playing Cello Concerto No. 1 in A Minor op. 33 by Saint-Saëns kept me focused on my goals..
One’s writing says a lot about that individual and their views on certain topics. At times, it is difficult to share one’s work of literature due to sensitivity to other’s reactions and comments. Ever since I began writing high ended essays, peer editing was my biggest fear. Personally, I had a difficult time sharing my writings. There were certain areas I lacked in and the peer editing only confirmed insecurities I had. All of this changed through writer’s circles.
Each small scenarios that happen in our live can have either a major or minor impact on them. For me, it had a major impact. The way I go about writing now is more clear. I put more thought into my thinking process first. Before I decide what I want to write about I make a list. The top part of my list are the things that are either important to me or just easy to talk about, as long as it stands true to the topic or prompt. This is important because beforehand I just picked something and wrote the bare minimum I needed to have to get an A or B in high school ,which is not very hard with certain teachers. From changing this one step my whole writing process became easier. This scenario, did start off very damaging. My attitude towards
Part 1: My writing process itself is pretty simple. I do not follow the normal writing process. I start off by stringing random thoughts together. I then write a draft of my thoughts, and my draft usually ends up to be the size of my essay. Next, I do not revise too much, I just make sure that I stay on topic, and that everything makes sense. Finally, I edit and proofread my essay making sure that I did not miss anything in previous steps. I did not face many issues while writing, but there were a few. My first issue was using transitional words. I feel as if I am always searching for transition words. Another difficult part to writing my essay was vocabulary. Sometimes, I feel myself not using enough intricate words. Also, I have a problem with grammar. I do not always catch grammar mistakes while I am writing. I often have to read my passage three or more times just to get my grammar mostly correct. Although I try my hardest to get better, these are some of my downfalls. Now, I can reflect on the easiest part of my essay. The easiest part for me is finding something to write about. I try to pick topics that I know a lot about, and I try to pick topics that
During my English courses throughout high school, I learned many things from writing simple journals, research papers, and a single term paper. During high school, I was laid back and procrastinated for much of my work. During the latter part of high school when I wrote my term paper my senior year, I found out that working a little every night writing a few paragraphs helped me out greatly. I was not just throwing something together just to get the grade and the paper finished. I spent time on the paper and

How can one person know what good style is when writing a paper? Where is it written that we as students should have to follow specific guidelines while writing? Anyone wanting to make their writing clear, precise, and simply correct will usually try following some type of guideline, or book in order to perfect their own writing style. After reading both The Elements of Style by Strunk and White, and also Williams’s Style toward Clarity and Grace I can see why teachers discuss these books as tools for correcting and perfecting their students writing, and style. While at the same time understand someone out of the classroom setting, brushes up on their skills in writing with these books before they
Looking back on this year, I think one of the academic areas I have developed most in would be writing. I learned how to write in many different styles and in very unique ways. The one thing that remained constant throughout was the writing process and I thing that is what allowed me to be successful and develop. I have always before just sat down and began writing where as now weeks before the final product is do, I have a general idea and topic of what I want to write about and how I plan to do so through a topic proposal. Then, I conduct a rough draft, which almost serves as a stream of consciousness and I simply write what I am thinking down on the paper for a rough draft.

Throughout the writing process for my process analysis essay, I completed many steps. The first thing I did was decide what process I wanted to write about. I chose cake pops because they are my favorite dessert. After that I began to prewrite which includes the purpose, tone, audience, and thesis statement. Following, I started planning. I wrote down all of the ingredients as well as the procedure in chronological order.
Writing a paper on the writing process is pretty hard. The writing process is different from one person to another. You come across questions like, 'What exactly is the writing process?'; and 'Must you follow one persons writing process if yours is different?'; This is where I came across the answer to my questions, write however you wish to write. If one person likes free write first and another person likes to write a draft first, let them do how they please.
Having a habit can either better or destroy one’s life. Habits are considered to be things we preform continuously which is usually something that is hard to give up. As humans, we all have good and bad habits, it is just the size of the matter that depicts how one deals with it. I have a bad tendency to procrastinate. This leads to the struggles of putting effort and time into certain things that deserve it, trying to catch up on my work, and delaying my already poor writing process even more. In order to overcome my bad habit, I need to put my own time and effort in planning out how much time I need to spend on my assignments in order to get the best grade I can.
