I have been practicing on how to improve my writing over the past few weeks, which has taught me a great deal about writing. My teacher would like me to evaluate and explain my strengths and weaknesses in my own writing. This evaluation is in between my two essays. One on my own and another with my teacher's help. I have strengths and weakness in my introduction, body paragraphs ,and my conclusion.
The first paragraph is my introduction which I have strengths and weaknesses, but my weaknesses are greater . I do have trouble with introductions, So on the first paper I got a seven when it was graded a "Seven means I have something wrong with my introduction"(Cupp). I got a seven because I did not explain how the topic of "Shutdown Your Screen Week" came about. I corrected this mistake by explaining how I got to the topic of "Shutdown Your Screen Week". For instances, I wrote "Dear

My strengths are that I restate the thesis in the conclusion, and no "new arguments"or facts are introduced in the conclusion.(Cupp).For example, I wrote in my second essay "As we continue to advance in technology we should think about events like "Shutdown Your Screen Week". Students' social life's would be better on and off the screen. We could improve brain development on campus instead of damaging it with electronics. And as a school we could end the lies of multitasking in any setting. These are the reasons why as a school we should participate in the national "Shutdown Your Screen Week". The "call the action" is a weaknesses of mine because I have trouble finding the right words to help it flow and make the reader want take a stand with their opinion, but I have gained the skills to write a call to action over the past few weeks (Cupp). I hold many strengths and weaknesses in my conclusion like restating the thesis and a call to
In elementary school, I learned to write sentences. As time went on I learned to put those sentences in a paragraph which was three to five sentences. When I finally entered high school I learned to put those paragraph together which made the essay. When I was in English composition one writing had so much more than just having five paragraph. The writing was a way of expressing your creativity, idea, values, and emotion. It is not focusing on making five paragraph you could do what made you happy as a writer. There are countless abilities that writing has. The most powerful thing writing can do is change the opinion of thousands. But what is exactly English 1100? It is about improving your writing, reading and thinking skills or improve them. There are seven learning outcomes students that can get from this class, for example, communicate effectively, demonstrate rhetorical knowledge, engage in critical thinking, writing and reading, develop effective composing processes, collaborate during the writing process in a social setting, use appropriate convention for format, documentation, and editing, Adapt composing process to electronic environment. By end of this course, all student should able to demonstrate those learning goals as stated in the packet.
Before I entered this class my writing abilities were average, but I knew that with further learning and practice I could develop the skills to become a better writer. During the GSW 1110 class I have learned various new skills through four essays. Some of the new skills that I gained throughout this class are: how to locate both textual and visual sources, write effectively to audiences with opposing viewpoints, write to a variety of academic audiences, practice the process for drafting texts, demonstrate the control over grammar and mechanics, and critical thinking. The skill set that I have obtained in GSW 1110 clearly represents how I have grown as a writer and am prepared me for future classes and a future career.
Providing that, this course assisted me in thinking through my strengths and weaknesses. To start with, I find it very easy to deliver an idea now, and communicate with the readers through writing. Looking back through my essays, I noticed that at the beginning of this course my voice was not present. Now, however, I learned how to set forth an argument, stand for it, and present it using logical facts, keeping in mind that my voice should be there. Additionally, my grammar and vocabulary has improved, as a result, it enhanced my writing and helped keep the readers focused. I also use lot of transitional words to link my ideas and allow the essay to flow smoothly and coherently. As for my weaknesses, I noted that I keep drifting away from the main idea. This makes it very hard for the reader to grasp the purpose quickly. In addition, I take ages to write an essay, and this frustrates me sometimes thus, I start loosing interest and influence. Altogether, I think learning never ends, therefore, I’ll keep trying to overcome my weaknesses and add more skills to my writing strengths list.
My weaknesses could have been the overall structure of my essay. I was getting really into the writing, like the progression of my “conversation”: the author and the author’s work and the articles regarding the work of the author, and once I was finished, I realized I only have 4 solid pages of work. So I went back and tried to insert more examples,
I think my greatest strength as a writer is that my sound ideas are always clear. The thesis and the body paragraphs in my essay are always supported by evidences and details from the book. In my essay, I always have a decent beginning and ending.
Scrutinizing over my timed write I did on an excerpt from Becoming Educated by Barbara Jordan, I have found few strengths and many weaknesses in my writing. Rereading my paper I am horrified at my lack of warrants and word choice. Furthermore, I don't fully understand Rhetorical Strategies or rather how to identify them in a given text. Not everything was worthless in my paper, thankfully. I did use quotes from the excerpt to support my supposedly weak arguments. My weaknesses beyond any doubt over shadow my strengths in my paper.
When writing a paper, everyone has strengths and weaknesses. My personal strengths that I believe I possess are editing, free-writing, and organization. My grammar skills are not weak, but there is room for improvement. One of my biggest weaknesses in writing graduate papers is APA formatting. Although I have not had any issues with plagiarism, I have trouble with properly citing source specifics from books to articles, to web pages, and magazines. I will work on improving all my weakness, and fine tuning my strengths because while I believe I possess the ability to write naturally, writing within guidelines is something learned.
Throughout my first semester at the University of Portland, the quality of my writing progressively increased. My English 112 class contained many different activities that contributed to helping me become a better writer. Informal writing assignments, class discussions, peer review sessions and the writing center were just some of the resources available to me that helped progress not only my writing ability but my overall reading & writing analysis skills as well. Not only did I make new relationships with my peers, these relationships also helped me understand the content more thoroughly, work out any problems that I had with my ideas, and encourage me to be more social among my fellow classmates as well. Nearing the end of this
Any way now onto the next topic. Some of my analyze strengths are how I do explain something for example when I use a simile “ the girls likes the dog”. That's a simile and I ulshey have a lot of similes in my paper. Some areas where I need to improve on is how not to make anything too confusing or not to confusion. I hope by the end of middle school I can improve anything I need to.
The strengths of your piece is that you write with candor, and that in turn, gets the reader invested in what you have to say. You also use your humor
Throughout the past semester, as a writer, I have experienced an immense amount of development. The knowledge I have received through attending this English class has had an eminently positive affect on my writing capabilities, styles, and comforts. During the duration of the class I have been constantly urged to journey outside of my traditional comfort zone to elaborate and write about several topics that have affected and diversified my ability as a writer. In addition, I have learned many different styles of writing, new to me before the class and have attempted to write various new forms of essays. Through learning and attempting all of the new writing styles and techniques, my writing has positively grown amidst the duration of the semester. The constant practice in and outside the classroom continually matured and refined my writing proficiency and capabilities. The development and advancement of my writing ability is displayed in my works through the processes of prewriting preparation, writing development, and revision and editing.
I did show some of my weaknesses in the L.A.T.s. My weaknesses in writing are not adding enough detail in my closing paragraph. In the first essay I did have a few mechanical problems that include spelling, and putting appositives in commas. Some useful tips or things that I do before writing the essay include doing the outline and writing the thesis first. I feel more organized
Writing is way that we can express ourselves, it is a way to interface ideas and thoughts and to prove a point. Throughout my writing experience or process I have struggled with writing especially using details or really expressing myself my work. In this course Facts & Fiction: Portraits in World Art I expect to gain more knowledge on how to write a perfect essay, story, letter, and assignment. I expect to learn new genres and rhetorical situations. I also think my writing will improve academically and I will develop my skills in writing. Also taking my writing to a different point of view, level, and writing something different rather than the usual. I look forward to getting feedback from my peers and learning their thoughts on my writing and how they can help me improve.
I think self-reflection, or a careful cogitation of one’s personal work, is very important. It will help me think about my strengths and weaknesses in my writing skills and learning process, so that I can improve my weaknesses in the future and become a better writer. I believe, I have many strengths and many weaknesses that can be seen transparently through my drafts, revisions, and final essays, or writings, this semester. My overall strength includes the ability to pick out good examples from articles and the ability to construct good development of my body paragraphs after my revisions. On the other hand, my overall weakness includes having some unclear explanation of thoughts, unclear topic sentences, confusing thesis statements, having undefined terms, difficulties transitioning from one idea to another. I have learned that to have a good essay, I must revise my papers more than once because there are always flaws that can be fixed or improved. My writing process has evolved from having difficulties writing down or explaining my thought process to being able to explain and clarify examples to help support my thesis statement.
While taking this course you will find out your weaknesses and strengths through the various of writing assignments. The weaknesses I found out about myself was I make a lot grammatic errors. I also learned that I struggle with understanding where commas should and should not be. The more writing I did the easier it got. One of my strengths that I found was organization. I can deceiver what and where the information should be.
