As any artist does in their particular work of art, in order to become a great writer, you must be completely invested in what you are creating. Sentences must flow as if brush strokes, words must compile to create cohesive, clear, and complex thoughts as if colors. Writing is just as much of an art as painting, sculpting, or drama. Just like in writing, every artist has a particular style- the way the artist uses his brush, colors, canvas, tools- In writing a style can be shown by the writers distinct use of different sentence structures, distinct types of vocabulary, or other components that distinguish one writer from another. He then cordially referred to me as a “lexophile” to the class. I had no idea what a “lexophile” was, besides knowing that it was the lover of something; not knowing, I did what I normally would do, my research. ‘Lexo-” in Latin is referred to as “reading” or “words” and “Phile” is known as “the lover of”. So a lexophile is someone who loves words. Now knowing this, I could see that that my reading and writing had truly been reinforced. Later on throughout the year we drifted away from deep introspective thoughts to technical research papers. After the first research paper I completed, my teacher suggested to me that I needed to adjust my writing and take notice of what type of writing I was creating. In my research paper I was using an excessive amount of description and going about information in a roundabout way. Adjusting from descriptive and deep thoughts to concise writing was difficult, but I managed to find a common ground. I soon brought myself into a mindset that would allow me to write properly for the type of paper I was assigned; as an example, for research papers I realized my writing should still be descriptive, but concise, just enough information to get my point across. Having a variety of writing techniques allowed my style of writing to change and become versatile; now I am enabled with the tool of being able to channel my language in writing from technical to creative when desired. This skill was adapted through trial and error in my writings through my senior year until I was able to focus on changing back and forth between styles. I would dabble with different types of sentence structures. With experimenting with different writing styles, I was fortunate enough to have an English teacher who exposed me to different formats of papers where I could practice; for example, APA, MLA, and
