My family has been an important factor in my life, and in my education. Over the years, they have thought me to face my problems, and they have taught me that life is not easy, and that I should never take the easy way out. I have learned many things from my culture like some of the traditions that I was not aware of, and I really enjoy them. I come from an extended family. A family in which relatives such as grandparents, aunts, and uncles live in the same home as parents and their children (Book).My parents married when they were both eighteen years old, and ever since then they have had a happy marriage. We listen to it in every party we attend or even just a simple reunion music is something we must have wherever we go. I think it is very important that we keep our tradition alive as that of a girls quincenera. A quincenera is an event in a Mexican girl’s life when she turns fifteen. Her parents, at that age celebrate her transition into a woman. She has a mass, a bounquet and a dance. Until that day the girl is not allowed to dance or to date anyone. The norms and values in our religion and on my family are very clear. For example, we pray all together every day before we eat dinner. We can be seen as old century people but my parents by no means accept same sex relationships, and that is how my brothers and I were raised, and that is probably how we will raise our kids as well. Having both of my parents by my side has been a blessing. All of my friends either have single parent homes or they have to live with a step parent. In my socialization family has been very important, and so have been my friends. I like to be around many people and I don’t like to be by myself. My parents didn’t have the opportunity to go to college. I guess that is why they were very strict with our education. Two of my brothers decided not to continue on with their education after high school.
