Myers and Briggs created a personality test that not only will help people to figure out their personality types, but at the same time it aids in the discovery of which career pathways people should take based on their specific personality traits. Based on the personality trait INFP that was given to me from the Myer-Briggs test I have quite a few career pathways that fit my personality. Some of the career choices suited to my personality is a writer, counselor, teacher/professor, psychologist, psychiatrist, musician, or a religious worker; which seems like a pretty broad selection. Although there is a broad selection of careers that would suit my personality none of which are the career path that I have chosen; which is to become a physical therapist, but if I was not set on a goal some of these career ideas would not seem too bad. While reading the list of jobs suited for my personality I was surprised to see that psychologist was on the list because before I decided to go for physical therapy I wanted to pursue a career in that exact field. As for most of the other fields mentioned above I
John Adams once said, “Thanks be to God that he gave me stubbornness when I know I am right”. John Adams, like myself was introverted, intellectual, thinking, and judging, or an INTJ on the Myers Briggs personality test. Like all INTJs, Adams was stubborn and flouted the ideas of others that he did not agree with. By using my results from the Meyers Briggs personality test, I can examine how I react to certain things and use this to improve my Spirituality, my relationship with God, and ultimately my relationship with others through Christ.
The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) “is an introspective self-report questionnaire designed to indicate psychological preferences in how people perceive the world and make decisions” (13). It is one of several personality assessments that is popular among modern mental health experts throughout the world. Currently, it is estimated that the MBTI is “taken by more than two million people per year and is translated into 16 languages (10). “The purpose of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator personality inventory is to make the theory of psychological types described by C. G. Jung understandable and useful in people 's lives” (4).
I completed the Myers-Briggs on-line self-assessment and based off my answers to the questions the assessment asked me, I was classified as an ESFJ – ESFJ stands for extraversion, sensing, feeling and judgment (HumanMetrics). ESFJ’s are known to be the caregivers out of the different combinations a person may receive, and tend to be very emotional and due to this, they do not wear their heart on their sleeves. Other important characteristics of an ESFJ are being able to delegate easily in a situation where a problem arises. Though an ESFJ may easily delegate, they may also struggle when they have to make a quick decision, which can cause great discomfort and conflict within themselves (Butt 2009). Being classified as an ESFJ has been very
The Myers-Briggs Personality Indicator test gave me the personality type “ENFJ.” ENFJ stands for “Extraverted, iNtuitive, Feeling, and Judging. While reading the information about my personality type, I understood a lot of what it was saying to me. Basically, I was being told that I am someone who cares deeply for other people. I have always been like that. I think it has something to do with how I was raised. Like some people, I was raised in the church, meaning I went to church, often, as a child. Every Sunday, my dad would drag me to church and make me sit and listen to the preacher preach. Even though I despised it, I feel like it has helped me to become the person I am today.
The world would be a lot better of a place if everyone got along and knew how to communicate effectively with one another. There are several different personalities at any given workplace. “According to typological theory, each of us is born with a predisposition for certain personality preferences” (Kroeger pg11 para4). The Myers-Briggs Personality assessment is the most effective way to determine one’s personality type. The test uses different markers to determine how one is stimulated and exerts energy, gather information, make decisions, and living structure. At the completion of the test one will get personality type that is comprised of four letters. The test was developed based off of Carl Jung and Isabel Briggs-Myers’ psychological research on personalities and later dissected into Otto Kroeger’s book, “Type Talk at Work.” This book gives one the tools to determine what one’s personality is and then goes into great detail about one’s strengths and weaknesses and how it applies to to real life situations. My personality description is ENFP; Extravert, iNtuitive, Feeling, and Perceiving. The following are details regarding and ENFP personality type examining a holistic view including personal and work place interactions. Everything is based on insights gained from real world experiences and interactions.
The Myers-Briggs personality assessment results concluded that my personality includes the extroverted, thinking and judgemental characteristics which are extremely accurate. I desperately need people, sitting by my friends is like drinking a Gatorade which gives me energy. Being by myself is very exhausting. My personality assessment concluded that I had the extroverted characteristics. 16personalities.com says. “Extraverts are more interested in engaging the environment – people and objects around them – and they need feedback as well. They are more energetic and willing to take the lead in many situations”. I quickly become the center of the attention almost always in an informal conversation and am very comfortable in groups. According
The Myers–Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) enables an individual to gain a deeper insight into their inherent personality traits. For some people, they have had prior knowledge or underlying assumptions about their personality, but this test provides clearer information about each of their identifiable traits. According to the MBTI in Human-metric personality test, my scores were 22% (E) extroverted thinking more than introverted, 9% (N) intuitive as oppose to sensing, 16% (T) thinking more than feeling, and 12% (J) judging as compared to perceiving. Thus, my personality type is ENFJ. The ENFJ personality group is described as a minority group that consists of natural-born leaders, and people filled with passion, and charisma for example, Barack Obama and Oprah Winfrey; they are notable members of this group, also known as the protagonists (16personalities, 2016). The protagonists apprehend pride in providing guidance for others to improve individually and to improve the community at large (16personalities, 2016). The protagonists find it naturally easy to communicate with others and excel at communicating with other people in person (16personalities, 2016).
INFJs are altruistic, meaning that they are constantly trying to make the world a better place.
Based on the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) assessment, my MBTI type is INTP; which is amazingly spot on. The INTP personality type is one of the rarest, making up only three percent of the population, which is exactly how I’d like it (INTP Personality). Just the thought of being “common” makes me cringe. A prime example of this is my preferred name, Curtis. My full name is Jon Curtis Miller and I prefer to be referred to by my middle name, Curtis. For as long as I can remember, when asked why I prefer to be addressed by my middle name instead of my first, my response has always been, “There are too many Jon’s in the world, and I’m not another Jon.” I’m unique, I know that and to a certain extent pride myself on being so.
These qualities were even more defined when I took the Myers-Briggs assessment. The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) is a personality assessment that involves a series of questions to simple everyday situations, the responses then identify an individual’s natural way of doing things known as ‘Psychological Preferences’ (Aranda, R, & TiLton, S, 2013). My MBTI results came back from (Personality Pathways, 2017) as being an ISTJ, which stands for: introversion, sensing, thinking, and judging. I thought that this assessment was somewhat accurate to my personality and my way of thinking. According to the test, I have a strong-felt internal sense of duty and that fuels my motivation to complete tasks. I feel this is certainly true because I want
There are four specific assessments that we will be discussed in this paper. These include Campbell Interest & Skill Survey, Strong Interest & Skill Survey, Self-Directed Search, and the Myers-Briggs Indicator. In order to understand the applicability of each assessment and the positive and negative attributes, including cost, it is important to research your options and determine what is a good fit your you.
Motivation is a subject that researchers, practitioners, and organizations have spent an unprecedented amount of money on researching, assessing, modeling and working to understand human behavior and performance. With all the research, there is not a quick answer or even full agreement as to what exactly motivates individuals to be successful. The extensive amount of research has included studies across a variety of work settings and at the level of the individual, the group, and the organization leaving us with many theories to explore. Researchers have identified and agreed upon that individual behavior and personality relate to individual performance. I am no different.
I felt the Myers-Briggs type indicator results were accurate because I took it a year ago and it hasn’t changed. I have been a debater all my life and I am not going to change. The document that seemed most like me was “under stress, the ENTP may lose their ability to generate possibilities.” The document that seem least like me was “the least developed area for the ENTP is the Sensing-Feeling arena. Yes, the self-estimated type matches my reported type because a debater never hides from the truth. It was very interesting that this test match me better than most test.
In the beginning, of the Myers Briggs assignment my mind set was that this is probably going to be boring, and will not provide me with no new information I do not already know about myself. So, when I got to the questions I was just thinking how could this system be reliable with some of the answer choices. Especially, the answer choice of uncertain how can they really get an accurate personality label off of that answer? I feel like the incorporation of good variety of questions not just all similar ones actually surprised me. Also, for me when thinking of a personality test the questions that come to mind are similar and are smaller amount of question not 64.
