My five years at Myers Park Traditional have been the best 5 years of my life! Even though I’m only 11, I can truly see how important this school was to my life. From all the exciting moments, to staying up super late doing homework, I would not be who I am today without Myers Park. I was in a group called Beta Club. We were all at a camp called Sound To Sea. It was time for the camp fire. Fourth and fifth graders surrounded the growing fire in the pit. My friends and I were standing up on the benches screaming “You can’t ride in my little red wagon”, with everybody repeating that chant back to us. I was so excited to spend time with all my best friends. And trust me you could tell I was excited by the smile on my face. As the chants grew
My most memorable event is being in the 2013-2014 Lee Summit North Bronco Marching Band is here’s why is it, September 28 it was my first band competition and it was Park Hill South the weather wasn’t all that it was was warm but the rain just wasn’t giving us a break we got to Park Hill South and suited up well when we went down to the school we stretched and then we got in our lines and we were halfway down to the field and we had to go back to the school because it started lighting and with the tubas it just wasn’t safe to go and so we sat waited for like 30 mins and then we went down to the field and I heard “Lee Summit North you may now take the field” well I heard front ensemble play and it was real,it was time, and it was now my first
Hi Kerri Howell. You should consider looking into Roger Gaylord for Folsom City Council achievements and accomplishments before you try and knock him down. I've seen and hear many things Roger's done in the community, which is one of the many reasons he has my support. He’s always out helping others, volunteering and supporting several non-profits in the community. Take a peek at Ripples to Waves Facebook; you’ll see where he randomly paid for a stranger’s entire SMUD bill when she was in need. Your close mindedness doesn’t propel you in your endeavors for the county supervisor position; it shows you have a complete lack of leadership.
Changing who you are right now into who you want to be in the future is hard to comprehend. Especially as a high school student, our careers may still be uncertain. It’s undeniable though, that a big part of who you want to be is shaped by being in FBLA. Just being here at the state conference is evidence of the impact. Hello Illinois FBLA! I’m Neha Arun, and I’m running to be your FBLA state secretary. What comes to your mind when I say FBLA? Is it the conferences or the competitive events? Do you ever think about the business aspect of FBLA? The Business Leader part of FBLA often gets lost in the acronym. However, becoming who you want to be in the future is shaped by your business skills. What you learn by forming business partnerships will help you throughout your life, no matter
We are so thankful for our past and present BikeMaine sponsors, partners, host communities and...YOU! Without you it wouldn't be a ride! So cheers... with an extra side stuffing and cranberry sauce (or insert your favorite dish).
Sports movies are knows as blockbuster movies. Sports movies are know for there monologues. A monologue is a long speech by one actor in a play or movie, or as part of a theatrical or broadcast program. Coach Gary Gaines, in the movie “Friday Night Lights” has a speech called “Being Perfect”. “Being Perfect” is a very powerful, emotional, and motivating speech. This speech is not your normal locker room speech. “Being Perfect’s” purpose is to inform the players and others that it doesn't take much just to feel good about yourself.
“The Atlanta Exposition Speech” by Booker T. Washington, “The Talented Tenth” but W.E.B. DuBois, and “The Negro’s Place in American Life at the Present Day” by T. Thomas Fortune were written during the end of the nineteenth century when African Americans were faced with great challenges on a range of different levels. These documents are very like one another considering they are all addressing the same issues, but I also feel like each of them are unique from one another because of the person who wrote them. Washington focuses more on an industrial education so the blacks can go to school. He has the whites to believe that it will also affect them and make things better for them at the time and that they will
It was sixth grade and my family got us tickets to see Nine Inch Nails. So the day came along and we made the long drive to St. Louis to go and see them. We got there around 3 hours early and they were people there with stands outside the arena selling Nine Inch Nails t-shirts, hats, buttons, you name it, they had it. So we sat outside the arena for the 3 whole hours and then finally they opened the door to get in and we were practically first through the doors. Right when we walked in there were even more stands selling merchandise than there were outside. So after getting popcorn, cotton candy, soda, all the snacks we would need for the concert we headed to our seats. After about 15 minutes of sitting in our seats
It’s official, you’re a spelmanite. You’ve received that Spelman blue envelope and you’ve attended Spelbound. You’ve taken a horrid ID photo that will follow you through your matriculation at Spelman. You’ve heard the word “matriculation” at least 50 times since you got on campus. Last, but not least you’ve added #Spelman to your twitter and Instagram bios so that all of your followers know that you have made that choice to change the world. Basically, you think you’re ready to begin your journey as a Spelman Woman. Well, my dear baby spelman sister I am so happy that you are starting your journey, but I want to give you some tips to make these four years some of the best four years of your life.
“Good morning! Today we will be going to Yosemite National Park. I hope you are prepared…” Eddie, the tourist guide, announced a little too enthusiastically for an early morning after my family and I entered the bus. Taking a seat by the window, I tried drowning him out with my music, and then proceeded to sigh when I could still clearly hear him through my headphones. I was annoyed, but not because I did want to go to Yosemite; I just did not want spend time with the group of loud and obnoxious tourists on the bus. When my family and I first agreed to go on a tour of Yosemite, I was excited because I had never been there and I had heard many positive reviews about its scenery. That day, however, it was hot, I was worried about starting college soon, and all I wanted was to sleep comfortably without a Chinese tourist behind me complaining about the American government. “Great,” I thought sarcastically to myself, “what a fun trip.” When we reached Yosemite, however, my attitude completely changed. Although I was still with the group of loud tourists, I was able to mentally escape from them and my worries for the short duration in Yosemite. The immense cliffs, everlasting sequoias, beautiful waterfalls, and abundant wildlife were mesmerizing and for the first time in a while, I felt humble and small, as if I were just a tiny ant in an incredibly huge world. We, as humans, often forget our relationship with Mother Nature, but this trip to Yosemite had reminded me of this
It all started on my fourteenth birthday. I was at a restaurant with some of my friends. One of them was wearing a Thrasher shirt. We had an enthusiastic waiter that was quizzing us on multiple things, mostly based on what what it looked like we would know things about. He saw the shirt, and the poor girl wearing it had no idea what was in store.
When I was 14, my best friend, Sammy, invited my other friend, McKelle, and I to Mormon Girl’s Camp with her for an entire week. Both McKelle and I were super excited to go. It

Hi I'm Phoenix Jackson. Today I'm making my way into town to the clinic to pick up my grandson's medicine to sooth his throat on this freezing December morning. I live far out in the country of Mississippi but I would do anything for my sweet grandson. He somehow swallowed lye and isn't healing very much but the medicine from the clinic is helping him cope. As I walk down this old rugged path on the country side my apron gets caught by a good for nothing thorn bush. There are also many wild animals and a huge log, that I pray I can cross, that get in my way. Passing through the cornfield I come across a scare grow that scares me half to death. When I get over the log I'm so worn out that I need to rest so I sit on the grown and lean up against
It was a Monday morning and our 5th-grade class was just coming back from recess. Our class was coming inside with our 5th-grade teacher Mrs. Schneider. My friends and I were grabbing our lunch boxes when we heard two people yelling and swearing at each other by our lockers. I remember this moment in 5th-grade because I had been right in front of the whole thing.
I went to a public Junior High School in Long beach, CA. This was a very culturally diversified school; the students had their “clicks,” as most students would call them. This is typically groups of people of the same interests: jocks, nerds, rebels, hippies and groups of the same racial background: African American, Caucasian, Filipino, Korean, Hispanic, or Samoan. The whole school was treated to a festival with good food, music, games and a talent show showcasing student performers. Some of the performers played instruments, acted out dramas, or danced. The festival was outside in the food court area, where we typically have lunch. It was a warm day and I was sitting by myself in a crowd of students watching the talent show. My legs were crossed on the floor, however, feeling a bit bored I decided to wrap the straps of my backpack around my legs tangling them. The talent show was coming to an end and the DJ started to play some music.
