Sociology is the scientific study of society, which includes patterns of social relationships, social interaction and culture. Mary Midgely once said, “Evolution is the creation-myth of our age. By telling us our origin, it shapes our views of what we are. It influences not just our thought, but our feelings and actions too, in a way which goes far beyond its official function as a biological theory.” When dealing with myths, every society has its own form of myths and often these different myths are re-telling stories that are changed slightly to fit different cultures and experiences. The popularity of myths and the way they are told today suggest that myths are much more than just stories and they have an important purpose in today’s society, just as they were important in ancient civilization. One of these boundaries includes the race category. We think in terms of stereotypes, rather than finding a common ground with someone who don’t come from the same background as he or she. This results in, that most of us have very little understanding of how people form social segments on how we think, feel and organize our experiences. The term race refers to groups of people who have differences and similarities in biological traits deemed by society to be socially significant. Meaning that people treat people differently because of their ethnicity. The family stability is varied by race. According to Sarah Childress, “It is a system that operates to control people, often at early ages, and virtually all aspects of their lives after they have been viewed as suspect in some kind of crime.” One point referring to this is that families are affected by social forces.
