Leaders. As important members of society, leaders are tasked with accomplishing goals using confidence, inspiration, and great decision-making skills. Everyone looks up to their leaders and turns to them for help and guidance. Leaders also exercise a great deal of power that is central to the structure of the group, club, or organization they lead. They have the remarkable ability to mobilize their team and direct tasks to get things done. However, as much as popular thought likes to show how leaders are always superior, one thing is certain: leaders are still servants like everyone else.
In fact, leadership is the ultimate form of service.
I say this because leaders must devote so much of themselves in dealing with the responsibilities and demands that come with the title. Leaders not only contribute to the organization as normal members, but they must cautiously make decisions with their subordinates in mind; this makes leadership a selfless act. My experience as a Co-President of my school’s National Honor Society has taught me many valuable lessons that help me serve as a leader. My school’s chapter of NHS has a little over 130 members; throughout the progression of my co-presidency, my fellow NHS officers and I have been able to improve communication between officers and our members using websites and apps. Additionally, our chapter is known for conducting the annual Tiny Tigers Fun Fair; planning for such a big philanthropic event has put me in some high-stress situations, in which I was able to take initiative and delegate tasks efficiently while keeping our members’ capabilities in
