NATIONAL INSTITUTES OF HEALTH
Overview
The mission of the National Institutes of Health’s (NIH) is “science in pursuit of fundamental knowledge about the nature and behavior of living systems, and the application of that knowledge to extend healthy life and reduce the burdens of illness and disability.” The research supported by NIH extends from basic research that explores the fundamental workings of biological systems and behavior, to studies that examine disease and treatments in clinical settings, to prevention and population-based analyses of health status and needs.
This mission is pursued by 27 institutes and centers (ICs) and various offices within NIH, which support and conduct research through a far-reaching extramural research

• More than 300,000 scientists and research personnel affiliated with more than 3,100 organizations make up the NIH extramural research community.
• Funds are primarily awarded through a two-tiered independent review system designed to ensure that the best proposals are funded.
• Approximately 10 percent of NIH’s budget supports a core program of intramural basic and clinical research activities administered and staffed by NIH physicians and scientists.
• Add a couple more, like types of grant mechanisms, autonomy of ICs, no. of trainees (see NSF section)
Social Science at NIH
NIH supports social and behavioral science primarily, but not solely, under the rubric of “health and behavior” research in all of its constituent institutes. Institutes which are the most supportive of this research include:
• National Cancer Institute
• National Institute on Aging
• Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development
• National Institute for Nursing Research
• National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism
• National Institute on Drug Abuse
• National Institute of Mental

The Office’s mandate includes identifying and reporting on research that represents areas of emerging scientific opportunities, rising public health challenges, or knowledge gaps that would benefit from conducting or supporting additional research that involves collaboration between two or more institutes and centers or would benefit from strategic coordination and
University of Maryland, Baltimore’s (UMB) Central Administration (CA) is an integrated department organized to provide comprehensive high quality service to UMB’s investigators, fostering new research and clinical initiatives with industry, and promoting translational discoveries into public benefit. UMB CA consists of following divisions, Office of Technology Transfer, Office of Sponsored Programs Administration, Center for Clinical Trials, Global Initiatives, BioPark/Economic development and Internal Review Board (IRB). CA assists researchers and sponsors by expediting research agreement for novel and promising therapies. The CA supports budgeting, contracting and sponsor relations for agreements, cooperating with the University of Maryland Medical Center Hospital to expand UMB’s achievements as an internationally renowned center for innovative patient care and research.

NIH National Cancer institute is an organization that involves human research subjects. The research they do is conducted on cancer patients. Their most popular human conducted research is their clinical trials. It is called NCI-Molecular Analysis for Therapy Choice.
Why funding for NIH should continue, and corrections to Dr. Not A Scientist’s scientific knowledge
I am writing to inform you of my intent to participate in the NIH Postbaccalaureate Intramural Research Training Award program as a trainee. Having recently graduated magna cum laude with bachelor’s degree in biological sciences from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, I am eager to use my knowledge and passion to contribute to the health sciences. The IRTA program at the NIH appears to be an ideal opportunity for me to contribute to the health sciences as well as develop personally as a future physician. While I admire the diversity of research the NIH is conducting, I am most strongly drawn to the mentorship provided through the IRTA program.
At NIA, our mission is to discover what may contribute to a healthy old age as well as to understand and address
(Cleveland clinic.org) The Lerner Research Institute is the fifth largest research institute in the country, employing two hundred and fifty Ph.D. investigators. The revenue the research creates funds the research programs themselves as well as funding the creations of programs throughout the health system. In 2016 the research department was responsible for 289 million in
CCaTS is funded by NIH from the National Center for Advancing Translation Science. Our programs support the national standards and best practices related to increasing the translational of biomedical research findings and opportunities from basic discovery to clinical and community engagement.
Through the medical laboratory science program at Quinnipiac University I believe that I can further hone my skills as a researcher, while demonstrating my devotion and ability to excel in the field of medical science. With a degree from Quinnipiac University I will be able to enhance my credentials and display my readiness for matriculation into medical
Mayo Clinic has several different sources of funding. In 2008 Mayo Clinic combined Colleges of Medicine received $184 million in NIH funding, placing them in the top 20 institutions for NIH funding. Mayo clinic also used $210.8 million in 2008 of its institutional revenues to fund research. Research expenditures in 2008
It consists of undergraduates that focus on research and is funded by the National Institutes of Health.
Working as a clinical research fellow at Harvard Medical School has been a great learning experience. I have gained first-hand knowledge about the American health care system, and it has enhanced my regards towards clinical research in advancing
Hello and welcome to a special edition of Historical Explorers, I'm your host Char and today we commemorate 140 years since British Queen, Victoria was proclaimed Empress of India.
According to the National Institute of Health more than eighty percent of its budget goes to research; funds are granted to over two thousand five hundred universities or research institutions and financially supporting more than three hundred thousand research personnel. In Bethesda Maryland stands the main campus of NIH which houses the largest hospital completely dedicated to clinical research. On this campus are the NIH Intramural Research
